Martin Ødegaard

I had a dream that I was Man United manager and Odegaard lived with me until he found his own place. He also opened the scoring at Anfield on his debut.

Legend.

According to Freud you're a raging homosexual with delusions of grandeur. Not sure what Anfield represents but it most likely has something to do with your mum's vag.

Ødegaard is reportedly (in Norway) offered to come over to Barcelona so he can check out how their club is run.

Martin Ødegaard (15) and dad Hans Erik Ødegaard (40) are invited to Barcelona to see the condition of the Spanish giant club.

On Monday evening, he trained for the first time with a stop Norwegian A-national team ahead of Euro qualifiers against Malta and Bulgaria. But the big challenges do not stop there Strømsgodset sensation.
15-year-old has taken the Premier League and youth teams by storm and is about the desire of a united Football Europe.

The desire of Barcelona
Now it has gone so far that even the finest Barcelona has invited the Ødegaard to the city in hopes of preparing a move to the club with world stars such as Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez in the stable.

FIFA agent Kent Karlsen, who forwarded the Spanish interest, confirming that the father and son Ødegaard has received an invitation from "Barca".

- It is true that Barcelona want to visit from Martin and Hans Erik to become better known, says Karlsen VG.

- Will they travel to visit the club?

- It is too early to say.

- How strong is the interest from Barcelona?

- I have no comment, responds the football agent snappy.

Ødegaard dad in Barcelona calls
Barcelona has three times earlier this year been in Norway for checking out Norwegian football's biggest jewel. After that VG should also know daddy Hans Erik Ødegaard have met its representatives at any of the cases.

He says Martin Ødegaard that he will wait until after the Norwegian season ends in November to visit current big clubs in Europe. A possible scenario could be that the father travels to Barcelona alone to get better acquainted with what can wait son of the transition.
- It may soon be that I'm going to visit someone. We'll take it after the season, says Martin Ødegaard told VG.

- Have you agreed yet?

- No, replies the boy on Friday may be the youngest player at a European Championship qualifier.

Can choose the top shelf
But it is not just Barcelona looking to recruit Martin Ødegaard. Most of Europe's big clubs will take him with open arms. How is 15-year-old first Norwegian club player since Tom Lund in practice can choose the very top shelf when at one point he decides to leave Strømsgodset.

Tom Lund played in the 3rd Division Østland / Northern in 1973 as Europe's premier club Ajax wanted to replace the world's best player, Johan Cruyff (who had just been sold to Barcelona), the Norwegian who ravaged the Netherlands in the autumn Superbowl. "Tommy" refused, and later also chose to remain in Lillestrøm above deals from Bayern Munich and several other big clubs. The question is which club Martin Ødegaard and dad Hans Erik feels is the right next step.

Høgmo excited about club selection
- You touch a very exciting topic there, says the national coach to VG.

- There is no easy answer to what is the right thing to do. If we look at similar cases, there are really two ways. First, he must find the right time when he should depart out of Norway. So the question is whether he might be going through an international development club in for example the Netherlands. Or if he should go straight to a top club abroad. It will be interesting to see what he chooses.

- What do you think would be appropriate?

- It's hard to say. He is a very special talent. But there is no easy answer to that, repeat the chief.

Dad manages inquiries
Martin Ødegaard said he let his dad Erik address all inquiries from clubs and agents who want to tie him up.

- Right now I'm not thinking anything of it at all. I think only of Strømsgodset and now the national team. There is no focus now.

- When do you think it might make sense to travel to a foreign club?

- I have to first of all finish the season here. When the time eventually comes, I do not know now, responding frame rising.

He took it easy on the first real A-national team training in that he had Sunday's 0-0 draw at Sarpsborg feet. Press Gathering in Lillestrom ahead required almost more of kid that everyone wanted to see.

- I'm very excited. It is the national team and European Championship qualifiers. I hope to show off what I can, so we'll see how it goes, says 15-year-old.

Hmm.

Could you talk about this dream in more detail? What was the nature of your relationship with the boy? Would you describe it as ..... intimate?

(Standing in for Pogue here)

I kissed his cheek when he scored against Liverpool and I felt a definite rush of love for the lad. I was rarely at home though, very busy at Carrington at all hours.

According to Freud you're a raging homosexual with delusions of grandeur. Not sure what Anfield represents but it most likely has something to do with your mum's vag.

So what you're saying is I'm a pathetic serf and Odegaard is gonna feck my mum? Great.

could they actually sign him though - what with their transfer ban and all that?

I think we should bring back Mats Møller Dæhli and sign Ødegaard. I have heard that they are good friend now. Dæhli got only 1 1/2 years of his contract with Cardiff.

At least, sign Ødegaard and loan him straight back to Strømsgodset.

Isn't Daehli's contract over at the end of this season? He only signed a 2 year deal when he signed.

Why would Odegaard do that? Would make no sense at all for him.

Im not sure, maybe it was a 2 year del.

From Odegaard's view he can just stay at Stromgodset and then sign for us in a couple of years instead of coming now and going back on loan. He has said he is in no rush to leave and I think there is no chance of him signing for a club that will loan him out. He is as hot property as you can get. His camp have also said he isn't trying out for clubs anymore but rather clubs are trying out for him. If he is going to be playing for Stromgodset he may as well remain their player and keep his options open.

Besides, he's a Liverpool fan so he's probably not dying to tie himself up to Manchester United.

Are you Arsene Wenger by any chance?

We will have to see. Some norwegian media outlets have said that they are thinking about letting him go, because he has yet to sign a new contract.
Though, he could sign a new contract and stay for some more years.

Besides, he's a Liverpool fan so he's probably not dying to tie himself up to Manchester United.

So were Ole and John O'Shea. Zaha and Young supported Arsenal. Shaw supported Chelsea. John Terry and Ramsey (who actually turned us down) supported us when they were kids. Basically who a footballer supports when they were a kid has little or no bearing on who they play for during their careers.

If goes to Barça or Real he'll never make it.

He might make it at Barca to be fair. If he joins Real he would be better of moving to some mid-table Spanish team as that's where he'll end up eventually after a few years on their bench or in the reserves.

The problem with Barça is they have so many great youngsters every year that he could get lost in the mix unless he really is the next Messi or whatever.

Exactly my thoughts about Real.

True. He does look a fantastic prospect though and would probably be one of the best in their academy were he to join. He will also be hitting his 20's just when Messi and Suarez will need replacing.

Came on as a sub in the 64th minute. That makes him the youngest player in European football history to feature in a competitive game for a national team.

It was a tough game with very little finesse at the end, which didn't suit him so well. But he worked hard, tracked back, played a really good through ball to the striker, and won a freekick in a good position. Not an overwhelming "debut", but he didn't look uncomfortable out there at all. I don't think it's long before he starts a game now. I think he'll feature in every game Norway plays from now on, with the odd exception(vs Italy etc).

Was decent today. That through ball was a real delight, pity Nielsen didn't make the most of it. 15 years and 301 days, that's a crazy age to make your competitive international debut.

I don't think who he supports will have anything whatsoever to do with who he decides to sign for. Liverpool have Sterling (United fan) and we have Shaw (Chelsea fan).

Slightly underhit pass to Nielsen, so I wouldn't place that at his doorstep, but still... Ødegaard didn't look fazed at all. 15 years of age and looks like a player to make things happening. Absolutely incredible. With him and Dæhli we finally look like we're getting what we've thought we've had for years, only to be let down. They're special talents that prove their value from a young age onward. Skjelbred was disrupted by that leg-break, Braaten never could be arsed to be consistent, Nordtveit never took off until he got more mature, and King's only just starting to look mature enough to have his raw talent translate into valuable contributions. If Ødegaard keeps his eye on the ball, he'll be insane. We saw his incisive passing and confident dribbling yesterday, and he's routinely making grown men look foolish in the Tippeliga. I just hope he gets to a club that really want to nurture him with game time, and who strike that balance in how much they play him.

Full page today in the usually reliable newspaper "O Jogo" saying that we are interested in him and that his agent father would like to see him evolve in our academy. Was kinda surprised with this report since we usually bet more on african and south american talent. It would be a good place for him to evolve under the guidance of our very experienced coaches.

Interesting. You already have Gauld, you keep your one northern talent and we'll have our own (ødegaard) thank you very much! :p

The Portuguese league in general - and Sporting in particular - might be an ideal next step, but he's not going anywhere to play academy football. According to his dad and sundry, the emphasis of his next move will be on "guaranteed" first-team football at a stable club in a league significantly better than the Norwegian. The first-team part seems non-negotiable.

You misunderstood me. When i say the academy, i say the football structure as a whole. A player who already plays in the norwegian football league and is an internacional wouldn´t play in the youth ranks. Our main team trains at the academy. If he was to join us, he would probably have the same path as Ryan Gauld. Training with the main team and B team and playing in our second league with Sporting´s B team to get settled to a more difficult football. Ryan Gauld has been evolving very well and is now playing 90 minutes of football in our B team. Scoring some goals and getting some assists. Portuguese second league has a very long calendar with 24 (like the Championship) and fairly competitive level (with teams fighting for promotion to the main league and other big clubs B teams).
Breaking into Sporting´s main team will be difficult (it´s full of seasoned internationals). But there is a symbiotic relationship between Sporting´s main team and the B team. You have players from the B team reaching the main team and playing games (like Esgaio, João Mário and Jonathan Silva) and players from the main team playing in the B to maintain competitive form (Paulo Oliveira, Slavchev, Rabia).
He might be very good for his age but portuguese football is more competitive and it will be harder for him to settle and impose himself. Plenty of seasoned internacionals have come here and struggled. He should take it step by step in order to evolve under our proven academy coaches. The reputation of our academy speaks for it self. We had another Scandinavian talent in our academy (Schmeichel´s son) who praised our academy´s coaches and methods.

Yeah, something along those lines sounds like a good challenge for him at this stage. But; if he plays another year in Norway and continues to progress at his current rate, I wouldn't be too surprised if he walks straight into your first-team squad upon arrival.

Perhaps against the consensus but I think he's overrated. Not saying he will turn out to be shit or anything but he's a tall lad for his age so naturally will looks more ready for first team football than let's say Daehli at the same age.Doesn't mean he must be more talented.

Still I would be happy if we could sign him or Roberts.

He's still going to be a long, long way off of fulfilling his physical development so I'm not sure whether that point stands. The fact he's able to play with grown men and not look out of place at 15 is astonishing whatever way you look at it.

So did Freddy Adu (again I'm not saying Odegaard is shit).I actually pay more attention to the "natural" talent than those maturity that will sooner or later come and he still didn't strike me as a very best tier of talent.Of course I didn't watch any full match of him so I could be talking nonsense.

Do you follow the Norwegian league then, @khoazany?

Just mentioned in the previous post that I haven't watched any Odegaard's full match so I might be totally wrong about him.My impression about the league only limited in those highlights.I don't think there're a lot of posters in this match that watched the Norwegian league though.

The comparison to Freddy Adu is daft, to be honest. Freddy Adu excelled partly because of his physique. Sure, he wasn't a massive fellow, and he had a bit of skill to go with it, but even so it's far from this. Have you seen Ødegaard's physique? He's not a big, strong pacey striker, or even a winger. He's a skinny attacking midfielder in a league that may not be high in quality, but tries to make up for it in physicality.

Im skeptical but Rúben Neves is playing in the Porto main team with 17 years of age, so who knows. It can happen.

It's odd to call him overrated when haven't seen him a significant amount, isn't it? And there's lots of Norwegians in this thread.

That's why I put "I think".Why expressing one's opinion is becoming so difficult nowadays?

There's a lot of people calling Odegaard miles better talent than Daehli for examples despite the fact that Daehli was around half the size of Odegaard when he was 15-16.I'm not saying Odegaard is the type of physical player but he looks bigger than most of the lads in the same age for me and that's undoubtedly an advantage. He did look very raw from the little bit I've seen of him (and I'm not sure if that's just one-off sample or the level of defending in Norwegian league was actually that low) so it's not that weird if I have my doubt?

Again I'm not writing him off.I wouldn't write off any 15 years old.
