Yes, when Moyes was here, i think. :(

While I'm sure I'm not alone in admiring the originality of your wit, Ødegaard has spoken quite highly of how well Moyes took care of him during his trial at United. As has his father.

Moyes is not here anymore, right ?

1. Correct. Very perceptive.
2. Can't wait to see where you're going with this.

When Odegaard came he talked to coaches who probably explained him their plans for the future of the team, maybe his own future if he signs for us.
Now, these coaches and plans are different, the impression that we made on him at the time, is irrelevant.

So if Moyes was still here it could have been a good thing or if Odegaard had train with us since Van Gaal is here it could have been a good thing.

You could just figure that he hasn't been here since Moyes left, and it's just recently that he's been so heavily linked to other clubs.
After a full regime change combined with his development over the last year you could easily excuse a frown-face behind his comment, as we don't seem to show any interest.

And you can't have your frog leg and eat it too.

So i'm not allowed to think that the fact that Moyes isn't here anymore put us in a more complicated situation ?

Yes, you are. However, your original post would be a pretty peculiar way of expressing it and I for one would strongly suspect you of moving goalposts having been called out on a cheap dig at someone who - in this instance - does not deserve it.

I'm sure we're still very interested. Weren't we rumored to be talking to Godset just a few weeks back?

You are the one who interpreted it like that, originally i wanted to put "Ferguson or Moyes were here", And i used the frown face because since then we changed our staff, our "philosophy" and he had the opportunity to hear plans from coaches who will be here when he'll sign.

That's also why i said in an other post in this thread that the clubs that he already visited must be frustrated.

Now, if you want to see a dig in my post, suit yourself.

While we're still "very interested" (based on nothing from your end?), the media in Norway barely mentions united, and when it does it's always as a click-bait together with loads of other top-rated clubs in Norway.

To be honest, all indications through media show that we're just keeping tabs, and that it is very much between Liverpool, Ajax, Real Madrid & Bayern Munchen at the moment, with Celtic mentioned for the luls of Ronny Deila.

Also, it is you who interpreted JPRouves comments toward a dig at Moyes. I myself didn't think of it that way until i started reading your comment.
Fact is there have been relatively big changes at both our club and in Ødegaards profile since we had a look last time, and he has been visiting Liverpool & Arsenal in England very recently but we didn't bother with fixing a new meeting to evaluate better his development.

LVG rates young players as we all know so I'm fairly sure if he believes he can be a top player then of course we'll be interested. The only problem with all top clubs like Barca, City, United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Bayern..etc is none can offer him first team football that's why I think he could be best off at Ajax because they have a proven youth record time and time again or even Southampton.

1. Based on the fact that we've been interested in him since he was 12 or 13 and that he hasn't exactly stagnated since.

2. That's quite the assumption. His dad said ages ago that they had to prioritize which clubs to visit now so I doubt his not being back is on us. The only club he revisited this time around (afaik) is Bayern, and it makes me think they might just be in the driving seat. We might not be in a strong position (then again, who knows..?) but it would be downright surreal if we weren't interested.

1. Interest when he was 12-13 and stepping up to the plate now that he seems ready to switch clubs is a different thing.
2. Please, give some sources that are giving more away than the norwegian media that I've been exposed to.

Everyone and their dog in Norway knows that Godset isn't the ones you need to convince. So should international media as well.
You pick up on "general interest". There is no definitive interest shown in norwegian media (who are closest to ødegaard) from united besides what was shown long before he became so prolific. Of course his increased profile isn't a downplay on our current interest, but the fact that other clubs like Real Madrid, Bayern Munchen & Ajax already have stepped up the plate and practically told him that they are his best choice, united have said jack shit and doesn't seem to focus on him at all.

To simplify it, look at football manager.
You can scout a player, have him on your list but still don't go for him when all the other clubs are starting to put in bids and try to sway the player.
That's basically how united is viewed to be in this saga. You won't get him without going the extra mile.

So you're basing our perceived lack of interest on no one from United talking him up through the media?

Wow. You really can't come up with a single thing yourself? And neither do you seem capable or willing to comprehend what you are told or asked about.

I'll leave you to it then.

Isn't that exactly what you accused me of a few posts ago? And to a certain degree I am, and so are you, as none of us really know what the fudge is going on behind the scenes.

My only point (and it's hardly a contentious one) is that I'd wager we're still interested in Ødegaard, even if we're no longer favorites for his signature.

He's been over to United multiple times including in the past year and has been extremely complimentary about the club as I'm sure you know so just because its not in the media doesn't mean we aren't making efforts to sign him. United also don't comment on youth players so they aren't going to start talking up a 15 year up in the media no matter how good he is.

Pfft, I bet you've never even played Football Manager.

@Ødegaard

Quick question(s) ! :)

Reading back the lad said he'll take a rational professional decision in terms of what's best for his career but Ole and other Norwegian footballers have spoken many times of United and Liverpool being the most intensely supported clubs in Norway, with the Premier League the most popular destination for players including Riise, Berg, Jonsen, Fjortoft, Pedersen, Hangeland etc. So are the local media, ex-player/ coaches and football fans creating a sort of external movement to see him move to England over Spain or Germany ?

Also not to be presumptuous but there are a lot of reports of him training at United, Madrid, Bayern, Liverpool etc and generally speaking it's either briefed by the host club or someone from the player's end (agent, parents, friends and so forth). So the second question - is the dude an attention seeker ? I know it seems a rude, largely unsubstantiated question because by all accounts he seems very nice and is largely maintaining a low key but if he's secretly soliciting interest at 15, as a United supporter I'd be wary of what it'd be liked if he joins the club and then starts advertising himself for a better contract or another transfer abroad.

Not this again...
If you choose not to believe that a fifteen years old kid will be swayed in a decision in any way based on the club he supports then fair enough...

I know if I had the chose of United or Liverpool as a fifteen year old there'd only be one winner.

@Invictus
United, Liverpool & Chelsea I believe are the most supported clubs in Norway these days (Barcelona might haven gained some terrain), at least from the Premier League, with United definitely at the top.

Kristian Karlsen (former Monaco sportsdirector) has gone out and said Ødegaard should avoid England.
Høgmo (national first team coach; we don't call them manager) has given his 2-cents to Ødegaard without wanting to reveal them to the media.
Morten Gamst Pedersen says Ødegaard should stay in Norway for a couple of years.
Kjetil Rekdal says he should go to Bayern Munchen.
Tom Lund (not necesserily known internationally, but he is a football-legend in Norway) says he should stay in Norway for a couple more years.
Rune Bratseth says he should go for Bayern Munchen.
Ståle Solbakken only said that he should go for one of the biggest clubs and get himself a 5-year contract. No tips about where.
John Carew says he should sign a 5-year contract with Real Madrid but get loaned out to either Norway or Netherlands for 2 years.
Valon Berisha (Salzburg) says he should go to Ajax.
John Arne Riise says he should go to Roma.

Can't find anyone of note saying anything else.
As you can see, the only time England is mentioned in terms of where he should go, is when someone says that he shouldn't go there.

Polls on the biggest news-site in Norway suggests that the people in Norway says he should go to:
Ajax (35%), Other (25%), Real Madrid (14%), Manchester United (11%), Barcelona (9%), Bayern Munchen (3%), Dortmund (3%), Chelsea (2%), Manchester City (1%) & PSG (0%)
In a matter of speaking you could say that most Manchester United votes are based on the huge fanbase in Norway (in these polls, United most often come out on top whether it's rational or not.), with Other being shit-ton of clubs (amongst them Liverpool), making it hard to say anything about the objectiveness in those votes.
Ajax, Real Madrid or Barcelona seem to be the preferred destination for him from the Norwegian people.

He doesn't appear to be looking for attention, but it could be that the people close to him would use his popularity to get better offers for him.
It does seem like the contract stuff is very much down to the agent after Ødegaard has had his say on which club he wants. (just my impression)
The reason he goes on tour seems mostly because he can, it won't hurt his profile, and he wants the next step in his career to be as good as possible for his development and future prospects. The Norwegian media is going crazy about him and he is the most written about Norwegian sports-person in Norway at the moment, above people like Marit Bjørgen, Therese Johaug, Petter Northug & Aksel Lund Svindal. With the Norwegian media sending out 10x articles about one club visit international media is bound to pick up a few too many articles that are generated for clicks (and make their own).

@Ødegaard

Thanks for the brilliant post man. Very informative, fully cleared my doubts. :D

Will he sign a contract already? I'm fed up hearing and reading about this guy everywhere. Yes he is an incredible talent and he has been a breath of fresh air this year but the Norwegian media are dragging this way too far. The more they build him up the bigger the fall will be if he doesn't live up to the hype. He won't get any respite from the media until he signs a deal and gets into a daily routine at his new club.

Yea it would have been a lot better for his career if he moved quietly...When he goes to make his first team debut, whereever it will be, the whole of Europe will be watching and expecting, it's setting him up for failure I feel.
