@NoWinNoFee Of the foreign players who came to United at 16 and had/have a chance of making it, I can think of; Rafael, Fabio, Januzaj, Macheda, Ronaldo (17), Petrucci, Pogba, Pereira.

Fist teamer, arguably could be a squad player, squad player and still a huge talent, questionable mentality - should have done better, arguably the world's best player, ruined by injuries, should have been given more chances (arguable given his performances) but would no doubt have been part of the team the following year, trained with first team and traveled with matchday squad 2 years ago - now getting cameos.

As good as he is, and as well as he's taken to every level of football he's been flung into, I honestly don't think United or indeed the Premier League is the wise choice at this stage of his career.

I'd probably opt for Ajax if I weren't a United fan/lunatic, looking at it objectively. He'll be a first teamer before 2016 there at a very young age and playing at a reasonably high level with an emphasis on technical, attacking football.

ajax would probably be a great choice for him right now but if he is good enough he will get games under van gaal.

This. In an ideal world, we would buy him, then send him to Ajax on loan for a few years so they can do their stuff, then bring him back when he's ready

Ajax just won't do that. They won't get money for him so why would the play him?

By that reasoning no club would ever play a player on loan. If he can help the first team he would play. Chelsea and Arsenal have signed young foreign players and than sent them on loan in Europe for a period of time. The best examples being the three years Alex spent st PSV and the three years Courtois played at Atletico Madrid. I am not sure Odegaard would be interested in that type of arrangement but, it would not be impossible.

He's just 16. Probably not ready for the Eredivisie yet so basically Ajax's job would be developing him in their academy, giving him a few appearances here and there and then send him back to United as a ready player. All that for nothing.

(If he's ready for the Eredivisie and is a better player than i think then sending him for two or three years would make sense as he could help Ajax achieve their goals. )

That depends on how big of a talent he is, Eriksen came in the team when he was 17.

Well, I don't really think it will happen, but I think we could arrange a deal with Ødegaard where he signs for us, and then goes on loan to Ajax, we could even give Ajax a few players, or some sort of money compensation. Or a deal with Ajax with us having a first option to buy him from Ajax... And I see no reason why Ajax would refuse it, player like that can bring them valuable points and trophies while staying with them + always a possibility of us paying part of his wages and so on...

I do think that his best option is at least one year at Ajax probably two at this stage.

Is cruyff still on the board at Ajax... if so no chance as him and LVG seem to have a mutual loathing of each other

United have good relationships with a few clubs. No idea why people are suggesting it would have to be Ajax?
I suspect he won't join United, will be pool or Southampton.

Southampton would be a brilliant move for him. I don't think Ajax will necessarily provide a good platform to develop for him, they play in a weak league with lower intensity and he'd have to adapt to a stronger league after 2-3 years there anyway if his progess is going to be as rapid as it has been so far. Southampton will play him even at 16 or 17, they play good football in a very good league and have a brilliant record developing youth.

In all honesty United could be a bad move for him. We wouldn't play him for the next 2-3 years at least and we would probably try to send him to a Championship side next season, then refuse to play him and pick Evans and Falcao in midfield instead before letting him join Juventus on a free.

I think he will join a bigger club than pool or southampton. Could be us imo.

Southampton is a top 10 team, if he is good enough for them, he is good enough for us.

Nonsense, they have a much weaker squad than us and are bound to lose a few of their best players again and again which will always open up possibilities for young players to step up.

You see him as a marginal player in their roster, right ?

If so he will be in the same situation in both teams, that's why i say that, if he already good enough to be in their team, there is no point in signing for a lesser team, in the same league.
That's truer in our case, where we will "lose" midfielders in the summer.

No, in a couple of years or sooner I see him as a possible first team player for them and in his first couple of seasons he could probably get a few starts here and there too. Hell, if he's good enough he's old enough, they played Walcott, Bale and Shaw when they were 16-17, the could play Odegaard at the same age if he shows early promise and adapts well. Schneiderlin will probably leave at some point and Tadic might go to a stronger team as well at one point or another.

At United he'd not get a game for the first couple of years in all likelihood as we're not going to lose any of our first team midfielders without replacing them with adequate big name signings. It's a night and day difference.

They did sell Blind to us without any fuss at all. Throw enough money and it will happen.

Also, in our favor, VdS is on their board too.

Okay, i understand.

Not only no fuss, but quite helpful, by all accounts. The original deal was for him to stay at Ajax for one more season, which they quickly changed to a immediate transfer when Carrick done his ankle.

Can't he just stay where he is so he remains attainable on Football Manager. Heartless cnut is going to ruin my 'real player' youth development strategy when he inevitably goes to Liverpool to ruin his career and win nothing.

So when can we expect a decision from Zinedine Armando Pele? The Decision Part II. Step aside LeBron.

Kids heads been turned by lifestyle and money obviously, Madrid have a terrible record with young players, nailed on he'll be at Levantein 5 years time.

The MEN reported that we haven't heard a thing from him since he was with us over Christmas, looks likely he's going to Madrid... I thought he'd go Liverpool to be honest.

They don't play them, but they know how to produce and develop them.

Yep, apparently he'll wear the no. 16 shirt and has been promised he'll be part of the first team. Done dealio, by the look of things.

They don't really. Even if the player doesn't make it at Madrid they often times make it at another club.

Jesus what a bad decision.

Joining the best squad in the world was a terrible move, even Isco can't get a game when everyone is fit!

Can't say i am surprised nor arsed. It was obvious he's going to chose either Madrid or Bayern.

I remember when Perica Ognjenovic signed for Real,he was next best thing coming from Balkan,he failed and ruined his career for good. Not saying same thing will happen for this kid just i rather see young players go step by step.
