Mandzukic for sure. He's only 32 as well and could provide us with at least 6 weeks of service.

I doubt we're buying 2 new attackers (Willian and Arnautovic), and keeping both Rashford and Martial.
We have Sanchez and Mata too. Personally i think Martial and probably Mata are gone, but that's for another thread ;)
I gat you G:)
we need a dedicated AM though with defensive aptitude. And Willian is naturally that plus a right winger so as CR7 says "Only God knows the future" :D

I think we've seen why.
Either we are going two up top in a 3-5-2 type formation or Jose doesn't think we can risk having Rashford as backup when we are chasing a 100 point side.
A run of 2/3 games, like we had over Christmas, could kill our title hopes.
We have to be damn near perfect next season and that means we need a support striker we can rely on.
Rashford isn't quite there yet.
Cause he's not ready to lead the line yet.

He has to earn his chance of course but It must be so demoralising for him. I mean he has frustrated the hell out of me on more than one occasion so I understand the need for backup to Rom but it just puts him further down the pecking order again.

I just hope he gets a loan then to get regular games under his belt.

Lukaku is going to remain our undisputed first choice striker so signing someone of Mandzukic's profile as backup makes sense.

Both are underwhelming, Arnautovic as i don't think he's that good or consistent (squad player at best), Mandzukic is a decent player but he's 32 and our track record with these older players lately hasn't been great.

Mandzukic is exactly what we need coming off the bench especially if we spamming crosses in the box.

Arnautovic. He's looked very good since Moyes converted him into a centre forward.

Manduzkic back in the day was good but he's already way into the typical decline of players his age.

Should really be a neither poll option. I voted Mandzukic because i can imagine him being vaguely useful the odd time but ... we dont need him, at all. I kind of wish Mourinho would get over his fixation with playing it long to the big dude, he doesn't seem to have much else to offer these days.

Definitely Arnautovic for me. Lukaku needs competition and he is a perfect candidate for it. Mou needs presence in the box, and he is quick, can dribble, physically strong, ,fast and at the right age as well. He can also play in the wings. Add Arnautovic and Zaha into your team then you no longer need Fellaini.

I’m presuming this is as a backup striker, in which case I would go with Arnautovic. More capable of producing a moment of magic and winning you a game IMO.

I am okay with either of them., I don't trust Rashford to lead our line yet when Lukaku was injured. We only scored 1 goals in the last 4 games when he was our CF.

Being from Austria I have watched Arnie's development quite a bit. It seems that his role as father and Family Person made him a more mature Person which also translates to his behavior on the pitch.
I am not sure if he really is what we Need but I am impressed by his improvement.
Mandzukic is a pretty underrated Player so if he is available on the cheap why not.

I guess we are signing a backup for Lukaku, who will probably start 1/4 of the games during the season. If this is the case, I`d rather have Mandzukic (if he is not too expensive).

32 years old .... :wenger:

We should target Buffon, Inzagi and Pirlo as well.

Aged 40, 45 and 39. That makes as much sense as putting Mandzukic in the same age bracket as Mbappé, while the Croatian in fact is the same age as the world’s two best players.

Madzukic. Massively underrated, in my opinion. Great target man, works hard, team player and scores goals. Would be a great rotational player for Lukaku if one of our attacking players leave. Can also do a job on the wing too.

Would make total sense to sign a squad forward if there are any doubts about Martial staying.

Still makes sense even if that doubt is absolved for an older forward content with some time on the bench.

Agree with the loan part. We need to demand more quality going forward.

Not sure Arnautovic would want to be a back up and settle at this point in his career. I can see Mandzukic accepting that role since he's already 32.

Where is the "neither" option?

So, one of Mandzukic or Arnautovic is our Perisic this year? God, this workhorse over talent mentality from Mourinho is really starting to annoy me.

You do realise they are being looked as back ups right?

I didn’t know every team had to have world class strikers as back ups. See how many points Giroud won Chelsea or Arsenal coming off the bench. We haven’t had that since Hernandez.

Arnautovic is a workhorse? You clearly haven’t watched him play. Yeah he started running a bit more under Moyes, but a lot of the time he stands still. Mandzukic is a target man.

We don't need either of them. If we're looking for strikers go and get Icardi etc someone who will challenge Lukaku not another target man rotation option. If this means Martial going then it shouldn't be happening. We can mould Martial to be that striker even.

Mandzukic could be our Giroud. About thay level of being a very back back up but not good enough to warrant starting every week. Seems like a good option to have.

Giroud replaced Morata as a starter for Chelsea toward the end of the season though.

spamming crosses into the box? Or lashing crosses straight at the nearest defenders legs?

we haven't had a good crosser of the ball for donkeys years.

Mandzukic would do a good job for us as a backup striker. If you like Fellaini or not he's a great option to have on the bench when we need a goal but it looks like we're losing him so Mandzukic would be a smart move I guess. Would prefer us going for Talisca though but both would do.

Well it’s strongly rumoured that we going to sign two fullbacks. I presume they’d be able to put a better cross than Young and Valencia.

Yeah i do and i still don't want either of them. I never said we must have world-class strikers as back ups so don't put your words in my mouth please. Why should we sign players who are 32 as "back ups" and not give the likes of Martial, Rashford game time when they badly need it? Ohh sorry i forgot Jose likes his big lumps in every single area of the pitch.

And as another guy said above, Giroud became a first choice striker at Chelsea since he's signed so that's also irrelevant.

I followed Arnautovic since his days at Twente when he was a highly rated youngster at the time. I know him enough to know that he is a big fish in a small pond and not a big club material. But i was speaking in relation to Mandzukic when i was talking about workhorse over talent attitude Mourinho has.

Neither, we should focus on getting better players to play the ball on the ground. Just because we are getting rid of Fellaini doesn't mean we should be looking for a a big lump up front, hoof ball Jose. I hope this is bs, A 32 year old and a 29 year old West Ham player. We need to find a new way to play when it's not working with Lukaku. It's infuriating to think Martial could be leaving because lack of opportunities. We adjust with 3 at the back for certain opposition, why can't we do that with forwards when Lukaku is injured ect. Mind blowing stuff, we are never going to be playing tika taka football under Jose but we need better. A better plan b when things aren't going well in a game, not throw the big man on. It's not good enough, United shouldn't be looking at this profile of player.

Mandzukic would be a nice Fellaini replacement. He'd be good in the box, he'd be our cnut and he can actually play football so I say Mandzukic. Would be a decent "cheap" signing for 1-3 years.

Arnautovic is really good at football but he's a poor finisher and he's selfish and he gets too moody.
