Mario Mandzukic or Arnautovic

Who should United sign?

Surely, Fellaini's replacement, this will be an unexpected change of direction. Cause its unlikely Jose will start substituting/rotating his leading striker or play 2 strikers upfront. I'd say this is welcoming news in a glass half full sort of way for reasons being:
- No more Fellaini
- The said purchase will mostly come on as substitute
- That's a guaranteed point in line-up prediction

However, this does not look good for Rashford and Martial and you can just imagine what sort of football is in store next season as well. In the meantime, 'Presence Rules!'.

Yeah I was thinking if Lukaku didn't get fit for the cup final we'd struggle up front. And indeed without him we look aimless . Could do with cover.

Have to say go for premier league experience here. Arnautovic can be a handful at times and knows the league
 
Arnie has history but he was great after Moyes moved him up front and freed him from any defensive responsibility.
 
Arnautovic at his best would be one of the best players in our squad. Arnautovic at his worst would be the worst signing of the season. Mourinho has worked with him before and knows him well, so if he thinks that he has got what it takes to make it in United, I would be happy to see him here. As a combined right winger and backup striker, he could get a lot of games over a season and fill some voids in our squad.
 
Voted for Mandzukic but Arnautovic is very talented, too bad about his attitude.

I would send Rashford on loan.

Mandzukic would improve any team in the world as a squad player. He would improve many teams as a starter.
 
I voted for Mandzukic because I really like him and think he'd do a great job for us. However would perhaps be more excited by Arnautovic because he's phenominally talented when he channels his ability properly - the worry is that he doesn't apply himself and he'd be dreadful.

It's annoying really because the best back-up striker around that would've suited our style of play signed for Chelsea in January for buttons.
 
If Mandzukic becomes backup to Lukaku Jose will need to buy a 2nd player who can cross the ball. Out of these two i'd definitely prefer Manzukic. Arnautovic can shine on his day but it's Manzukic's day every time he plays (even if he shines less).
 
It will be annoying if we sign Arnautovic for stupid money when West Ham signed him last summer for just 20m.
 
Mandzukic, it's good to have someone to compete with Lukaku seeing how the CF position is pretty much his own, will also add more experience to the squad.
Arnautovic is meh.
 
Polar opposite players, can’t imagine how or why it would be a one or the other scenario but anyways...

Mandzukic on a short term deal would be a great move. Good, relaible player who would bring something different to the table. A better hold up guy than Lukaku and a good alternative to have. Great character too and has the experience of winning.

Arnautovic is another story. Basket case of a player. Has prolonged spells of consistent brilliance inconsistently, if that makes sense. In between these periods he doesn’t even resemeble a footballer. His lack of experience at the highest level with a big club makes him a big risk. Inter was very early for him but at this point it could be the making of something special.

Or not. Who the feck knows, can’t even remember who I voted for. Hope we sign Neymar.
 
Arnautovic is a good option when he's in the mood - but as a club that's aiming for the top, we shouldn't waste time on players as iffy and issue-ridden as him. Mario - great player, but really, at 32? Could do a job as a squad player of course, so I voted for him, but honestly, not a signing to set the pulse racing. We really have far greater issues in other areas that I think we should be addressing - like FBs (both sides), proper winger, proper CB (Please sell Smallones - Smalling + Jones that is) etc. Not clear on how to see this one, as I do of course, see the rationale behind having backup for Lukaku...
 
I can believe these links with us losing Fellaini. We know how much jose loves a target man as a plan B. I personally would take Arnautovic at the right price, I think hes a quality player. His attitude gets mentioned a lot but I think he would behave better at a big club which is where he thinks he belongs.

He has the arrogance to wear the shirt.

Edit: only 5 league goals in 27 for mandzuckic this season, and hes 32. I would much rather we focused our efforts elsewhere.

Agreed. I don't know how many games I've watched, where I wished we had another good experienced striker up-front. In some games, Lukaku just looked lost and everything just went wrong with him.
 
I wouldn’t have a problem with either of them joining.

Mandzukic is an absolute work horse who is capable of chipping in goals. Clearly would be a back up to Rom, so I don’t see the issue.

Arnautovic has looked like a real talent at both Stoke and West Ham. To me it looks like he has matured a lot in the last few years. I genuinely can’t remember any major issues he has caused since arriving in England. Was the drinking driving charge when on international duty his last big feck up?
 
Damn it, why we're always sign these established and decorated players when they're close to their MLS retirement pension.
 
If a choice has to be made I'd go with Mandzukic who is a better player than Arnautovic without a doubt but I honestly wouldn't take either of them.
 
I’d go for Arnautovic if he was cheap but Why not just use rashford as back up

I think we've seen why.
Either we are going two up top in a 3-5-2 type formation or Jose doesn't think we can risk having Rashford as backup when we are chasing a 100 point side.
A run of 2/3 games, like we had over Christmas, could kill our title hopes.
We have to be damn near perfect next season and that means we need a support striker we can rely on.
Rashford isn't quite there yet.
 
Arnautovic has always reminded me of Zlatan, but I'm not sure why. Something about the face maybe. Both have a face that looks like they're never giving a feck. And both would probably decapitate you if you spilled their pint.

When he's on it, he's great to watch, but he can be a bit hold and cold. He's got that Diego Costa thing about him where you despise him unless he's playing for you, but perhaps not in such an OTT panto-villain sort of way like Diego is. Decent player too, but I've no idea if he'd be good enough for a top 4 side.

He has the talent for a top 4 side. All that has always made that in doubt is attitude. From his young days he was always likened to Zlatsn
 
It would be fecking great to have an Austrian player, so Arnautovic even if he is our only signing this summer :devil:.
I really like him too, best player for our national team for ages now.

I don't think he would be a huge success, but I don't expect that from ANY signing at this point, so let's go for it!

Just a theory. Perhaps maybe he wants him as a right winger and Willian as a 10. Then when a Lukaku is out he can play up too flanked by the pace of Rash and Martial. So they don't ever have to mix it with cbs and instead run amok in and around 'em
 
I’d take Arnautovic as a squad option for sure. Not a starter but definitely as squad player

I doubt we're buying 2 new attackers (Willian and Arnautovic), and keeping both Rashford and Martial.
We have Sanchez and Mata too. Personally i think Martial and probably Mata are gone, but that's for another thread ;)

Mandzukic has been a key player for three consecutive years for a juventus team that won three doubles and have a coach who’s style is often praised. Two Bundesliga with Bayern, a very good season with Atlético. Yeah, poor calibre to be after
 
Neither but if we had to buy one, then I would choose Mandzukic. Proven player at the highest level with plenty of CL experience. More likely to get goals than Arnautovic too as he is a natural striker but can also play on the left too.

I would only accept this if he was 2nd, or maybe even 3rd choice striker in order to replace Fellaini's aerial ability. IF and a big IF, Rashford and/or Martial were to stay, I would ideally like them to be next in line to start ahead of Lukaku if he was to be rested or was injured.

Desperately hope this is not true.

That last quality is I think what makes Arnautovic in particular appealing. We have too many soft players who go missing when going gets tough. Arnautovic is not like that. The strops and tantrums are somebody who wants to win and will pull up teammates. That’s no bad thing.
