Mario Gomez

Its a done deal..

Bayern Munich have reached an agreement with Mario Gomez which will see the striker move to Allianz Arena.

Bayern had been tracking the Germany international for some time and are delighted to have got their man.

Reports suggest the Bundesliga rivals have agreed a £26million deal, with the 23-year-old set to pen a five-year deal.

"Bayern Munich are delighted that Mario Gomez has decided to join our club," said chief executive Karl-Heinz Rimmenigge.

"Mario is a top class striker that has scored over twenty goals in each of the last three seasons. He has proven to be one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga.

"We are now looking forward to having him on our team."

Stuttgart, unsurprisingly, are disappointed to be parting with their prized asset, but accept they were left with little choice.

"We were able to keep Mario at our club two times in the past, but now he has decided to move on," said general manager Horst Heldt.

"This is a real pity. Mario Gomez has done great things for Stuttgart and was a key part of our success this season."

Meanwhile, Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness has revealed that Schalke keeper Manuel Neuer remains another top target for his side this summer.

"There is only one goalkeeper we are keeping tabs on. That goalkeeper is Manuel Neuer," he told Sport-Bild.

"We have already told Schalke we are interested.

"If we are not able to get him, we will start next season with Michael Rensing and Jorg Butt."

Bayern are rich, they don't need to sell. Besides, they would sell Toni before with Milan being keen on him.

Makes sense.. With Arsene and Adebayor both recently stating that he will not be leaving...

Mario Gomez gave Bayern Munich supporters a glimpse of what they can expect next season as he hit four in Germany's 7-2 rout of United Arab Emirates.

Germany were far too powerful for their hosts in Dubai as Gomez, on his way to Bayern from Stuttgart, proved unplayable for much of the game.

UAE held out for the opening half an hour but once Heiko Westermann broke the deadlock the floodgates soon opened.

A Gomez brace before half-time sandwiched an effort from Piotr Trochowski that put Germany four up at the break.

Gomez needed just three minutes after the interval to grab his third, before Salim Masoud's own goal exacerbated UAE's woes.

Strikes from Ismail Al-Hammadi and Nawaf Mubarak gave something for the home crowd to cheer, before Gomez's fourth goal of the night in the final minute sealed what was a fine individual performance.

He's a good player and will only get better at Bayern.

Speaking of goalkeepers, I thought Rensing was extremely highyl rated by Bayern. Speaks volume when Bayern openly declare their interest in Neuer who will in no doubt be first choice should he sign on.

Whenever I hear of Mario Gomez, I think of Slater from Saved by the Bell.

he's talented but doest seem to handle the pressure of playing for a big club. i hope Bayern sign Neuer, the guy has potential to be one of the best in the world

I never rated him, wouldn't want him even on the cheap, let alone the ridiculous fee mentioned above.

A very limited player for that price.

He is limited, but he's also very good at what he does, I've always liked him. Lester is completely right, they paid a bucketload of money for him and wouldn't be able to find a proper replacement. Why should they sell him for cheap? On top of that, Bayern are EXTREMELY rich, they are not dependent on winning a few pounds from Chelsea.

Bayern are probably the most well run major club in football today. They don't need the money and they've always had the best German players. No use in selling him when he's scoring. And as "limited" as people claim he is, his first job as a striker is to score goals and that's what he does.

People are getting quite greedy with wanting players to do absolutely everything.

Don't know why Bayern are 5th place. They have plenty of class players in their team. Maybe their horrible defense.
Yes, because of their defense - but they have also missed the flair of Ribéry and, especially, Arjen Robben. They haven't been able to field the two since the German Cup final back in May last year.

I am baffled that van Gaal has moved Schweinsteiger further up the field - usually behind the striker -, although he became a world class player as a central defensive midfielder (sort of box-to-box).

I'm watching the game tonight, and he's been very impressive. He reminds me a lot of van Nistelrooy in that he looks awkward-ish on the ball with his back to goal, but at the same time isn't really. He's unreal in the box - I think he has 18 in his last 16 games now.

Bayern look very good altogether to be fair, and with Robben still to come back they'll be hard to beat in this competition.

With his hattrick, Gomez has now become the highest German Champions League goalscorer with 17 goals in this competition.

Almost had a 4th with that shot from the halfway line at the end. He wasnt that good in his first season after his move to Bayern, but since then he's hit the heights he had before then

I read an article somewhere (think it was from Soccernet) that a number of German writers are suggesting that Bayern actually play better without Robben
