Mario Gomez

So he's shit because he had a poor final? Bayern were toothless in general last night. Robben tried the same thing over and over again.

Think it was the right decision to lay it off, just poor anticipation from Buyten but then he isnt a striker so cant blame him. Make the simple run and there's a tap in to be had.

Didnt have the speed to reach it. Too far in front of him. You'd expect a striker to have a go from a few yards out

Finally people see beyond the stats when it comes to Gomez. I'll give you the top and bottom of it: Defending in the Bundesliga is shit. Gomez scores some decent finishes but a lot of tap ins and some very lucky goals that keepers feck up. He's nothing special at all.

You appear to overlook his CL record - 24 goals in 25 starts (or 36 appearances). CL defending is shit, it seems.

The combination of quickness, skill, strength & size is remarkable in Gomez but it's true, he can miss some very easy ones...I'm still impressed with a big man with that sort of skill & quickness...and he's only 26!

Would've liked to have seen him get a few more chances for headers in the match but I think it's unfair to pile on Mario...He's a fantastic striker...Every striker who has been fantastic has had their run where they couldn't find the net too...Yet all he does is tap ins?...Doesn't sound like someone who has actually seen the player play

He was absolutely piss last night but worse than that he totally went missing in the second half and extra time.

Thing is, after seeing him play numerous times now, for Stuttgart, Germany and now Bayern he never has looked like a top player, just a clumsy one with very poor technique who happens to put away a few chances. It's all fine and well when he's scoring but when he's not he's a liability.

Defending in the Euro's must be pretty poor too. Only explanation.

He's a very good finisher who sometimes tries to do a bit too much. No mystery there. He has good days and bad days

His off days were in the latter parts of the CL, which are probably the only games the people calling him hit and miss have actually seen of him. He's a top striker.

Supposedly only been on the ball for a total of 22 seconds in their first two games and has 3 goals!

He can be a bit of a donkey at times and isn't easy on the eye but he can finish that is for sure.

His 3 goals were very easy on the eye. His touch and passing at times ... were not.

He's just a total goalscorer who offers little else. A little like what I think Hernandez will ultimately be.

Never liked these types of strikers, whenever he doesn't score he is flop of the match.

The first goal yesterday was fantastic.

He'l almost always get mixed reviews about his quality though, one of those players who bad a lot of goals but do very little other than that. Score, and he'l be praised, a few games without goals, and all sorts of questions will be asked.

There are two Mario Gomez' actually. One who we saw at the CL final a few weeks ago and the one that we witnessed last night.

Nope. Just one. A pure goalscorer who doesnt offer much else. Score and he looks great, miss and he looks overrated.

Just looking at Mario Gomez's stats for the season

51 starts, 47 goals, an average of 15.4 passes per game and only 3.4 shots on average per game!

Two words

fecking lethal.

It must take serious concentration to still be able to finish like he does when you barely touch the ball throughout the entire match. He can literally go 20 minutes without touching the ball and then get a chance out of nowhere.

Is it true he was only on the ball for 8 seconds in the game against Holland where he scored twice?

Incredible if it is.

18 seconds, extremely impressive.
