Mario Gomez

Leave him well alone. He's not what we need a all.
If Tevez leaves Gomez would give us a different option to choose from, but you're right, Fergie probably feels a more static striker (in comparison to Rooney/Berbatov/Tevez) might not suit our style and system at all. Though I'd have loved it a few times this season (e.g. against Sunderland at home) to have someone like Gomez available upfront... could be perfect whenever we desperately need a goal. I fear the Black Pele isn't going to cut it at the highest level :(

Anduin, is Mario Gomez fast?

He did next to nothing in the tournament.

 he was France's best player in their elimination game. Throughout the tournament he didn't provide 91273981729387123 goals, but he was key in ball movement and setting up plays for others. He was also very good at being a ball carrier on the left wing when he was played there a couple matches.

That's a lot of talking up what he did, because really you're just exaggerating the few things he did.

He ran around a lot.

He's much better than that.

tbf you're just downplaying the importance of what he did.

Tevez's contributions on the pitch could be characterized just as that: "running around a lot. He's much better than that." When we all know what he does every match is very important to the squad.

Benzema and Ribery were the ones who were clearly trying to make things happen for France. They tried and nothing really came off. Cant fault those two though, everyone else had a shocker. They were just average.

You'd be stupid to, though.

Benzema was poor.

They scored 1 goal in 3 games.

stats aren't everything, someone could easily pick 3 games where Rooney scored 1 goal and say the same thing, when in fahct Rooney brings much more than goalscoring to the table.

But Benzema didn't score 1 in 3.

France did. Absolutely massive difference, because it shows all this good work that Benzema did, from your point of view, was absolutely useless.

Benzema got dropped for one of the matches as well, the one France scored in actually, which pretty much shows just how good he was in that tournament.

he's a good player, he had a bad tournament.

One of France's best two players at the tournament though and you've said yourself that Domenich is a bit stupid so his dropping someone isnt really proof.

Domenech's an idiot, but I was actually referring to the fact that they scored in the match he didn't play in.

Might well have been one of France's to best players, he was still rubbish.

He was one of their best two players, definately. As I said he and Ribery tried to make some things happen. It didnt work despite the two players linking well now and again. They'll have been dissappointed with their contributions, but less so than the rest of the french squad including Evra who played a match and somehow managed to be as shit as Abidal.

Personally I thought Toulalan came out with as much credit from that tournament as Benzema.

Well Toulalan did fine but for some reason Domenich decided he needed to push forward and try and play like Zidane and... Well he isnt, he wasnt, he looked a bit silly. Decent on the ball as he is, as good a passer as he is and as fantastic a combative midfielder he is... pushing him towards the opponent's area should be a move in times of desperation not your tactic going into matches. Imo of course.

All something I'd agree with.

Which is why I said he got as much credit as Benzema.

I think they both came out of it with a worse reputation, and didn't play anywhere near as well as they could've.

They put in the graft and tried to do what they could for the team, but they didn't do enough.

Probably didn't help Benzema that he had Malouda/Govou and Makelele as two of the four midfielders, to be fair. Probably didn't help Toulalan either.

we're straying away from the original discussion, which was Benzema was not as bad as Gomez was. Gomez was horrible, there was nothing positive to take away from all of his performances. Not the same for Benzema though.

No we're not, you're just tring to chnge it.

'Benzema was pretty good in the Euros, sure he didn't score, but his movement and footballing IQ was well displayed.'

He was rubish, it's that simple.

Gomez was gash at the Euros. Benzema was in a very weak French team, so unbalanced, the manager should have shot himself.

If Tevez does leave, we need a number 9, Rooney and Berbatov are natural creative players, not goalscorers - Berbatov can do both sometimes though.

Im confident Welbeck will make it, and so the fourth striker could be Macheda possibly.

 your original statement was saying that everyone was just as bad, except Spain's strikeforce.

Benzema was NOT even bad at all.

sometimes your WUMing actually works

'Aye, but so did most strikers besides Spain's two.

Benzema and Toni were, and iirc quite a few of them were.'

Not all of them, but quite a few.

And that's saying that they had a bad tournament, not being as bad as Gomez. He was the worst of the lot.

I'm a great wum when I want to be.

He's Overrated, will end up in Madrid and after a few months there will move to a mid table club in Italy to try to resurrect his carreer and by the time he is 32 will have some shinnings but no one will want to sign him at that age.

That's wrong.Benzema has never produced performances in which he's been the best french player. It's always either been Ribery or Toulalan (and Gourcuff more recently).
You're overrating his performances for France.
