It's wild to me that some people are even slightly defending our players drinking alcohol during the season. I know people aren't robots but the expectation should still be there.

It’s not defending. It’s just reality. It’s nothing to do with United.
Whatever you want to call it, defending, normalizing, excusing, is still wild to me. There's absolutely no reason why they can't abstain during the season, unless they have addiction issues of course.

Haven't we had big issues with the drinking culture at the club over the years?

I’m saying it happens across the board. Have you seen what some of the city players get up to in their spare time?

You also said you don’t think he has lost pace and you disagree with a few posters, me included, who think he has lost pace.

The issues you point to, we agree upon. It’s that you disbelieve in our observations that he seems to have lost a yard or two of pace, explaining all observations away with reference to motivation etc. That only works if anyone has seen him sprint at that earlier pace recently. If none of us has, it points to that he likely has lost some pace as well as all the other issues being there.

I said I dont think hes lost much. I didnt say none.

Does he even have future here? He is typical winger who can play striker then and there. In best scenario (for him) he will fight with Hojlund and Zirkzee for minutes and pray that Amorim doesn't bring nailed and proven first choice striker. He can't play no10 and wing back is completely out of question with his work rate.

I think he is off this summer.

All this talk of Rashford running reminded me of this.

Maybe, he just needs to change his game and become an out and out, goal poacher/ box striker. Like what Ronaldo did after he had his knee injury. Build himself up and become a menace that's just going to physically bully defenders.

Henry Winter instead of Paulie?

That's a complete guess though. There's no way you can say that without some kind of medical and insider knowledge.

It's equally if not more possible both players just ran out of motivation. Particularly Martial who never looked like a player with the right mindset.
It's hardly a 'complete guess' in Martial's case. He straight up confirmed that he was asked by Ole to keep playing in 20/21 (the season where it all went wrong after being our best player the previous season) despite not being able to accelerate due to an injury. And from that exact moment he had massive injury problems for the rest of his career and clearly lost a lot of speed and agility. I'd say there's a fairly strong probability that those two things are linked.

Rashford is a bit more debatable as he's mostly stayed fit and had up and downs since his injuries (first the back and then the shoulder), but even in his good moments he's never looked as agile or as comfortable with physical contact as before the injuries.

Hasn't taken Amorim long to realise that this guy is a dud.

Was about to say this. It took Amorim 1 game to realise Rashford is not a ST.

This is huge cause for concern for Rashford, there is nowhere he fits in, he should be looking at the PSG project and hoping they come in for him.

My opinion is that Rashford will not be here next season.

The way in which Amorim said "He has to be the first one to really really want it" did sound like he hasn't seen enough from Rashford, and that the ball is in his court.

He must be the first manager I've seen who's come in and actually said something as a challenge to Rashford instead of bigging him up.

New manager comes into the club and probably looks at the data/statistics of our top earning attacker vs what he has produced over 2 years and over, along with the performance and attitude he's already witnessed with his own eyes in our first game and training. Then he probably looks at the the top earning wingers in the top 6 clubs in the PL and around Europe and is gobsmacked at how little we're getting back. Either you put your arm around his shoulder which has obviously never worked under previous management, or you challenge him to actually perform and live up to his wages and reputation and if he doesn't he's finished. Rashford can either sink or swim now.

It's not quite the same, but it reminded me a little of Jose's comments on Wayne Rooney's position, categorically stating he's not going to be a midfielder. That kind of felt like a door closing or the beginning of the end for Rooney's time here.

Rangnick did and dropped him as well. Didn't work out so well for him though, even though he was clearly correct.

To be fair he isn’t fighting any giants at United
There are no giants
But garnacho (even though he has his faults) and Amad clearly want it more

I’ve said for years that Rashford is a failed striker that’s been moved to left wing

He is too selfish and one dimensional to play wide, doesn’t use his attributes to help the team

And he isn’t clever enough to play up top

May sound like somewhat of a challenge set by Amorim, but just as much of yet another life-line.

It may be a given, but only just happened to have thought... What would Sir Alex have done with Rashford? Obviously, the scenario would be different with a legendary manager, but I think it's safe to stay SAF would have given Rashford his marching orders many years ago. He got rid of Becks and Stam at the top of their game, so I doubt he would have had much hesitation with this jogging-pony.

He obviously wasn’t clearly correct when Rashford had a 40 GA season literally as soon as Rangnick left. It’s fair to say that he may have identified issues that were valid concerns but he obviously wasn’t correct to drop him, especially given he played Sancho instead.

Amorim’s comments on the other hand seem fair enough. Rashford needs to make either the CF or LAM position his over the next few months. He clearly needs to improve various aspects of his game in either position to do so. Will be interesting to see how it works out.

He would probably have been one of the three/four main forward options to go into the season. His role would mainly revolve around playing on the shoulder of the last defender, being partnered with someone like Rooney who could operate between the lines. I believe Ferguson would have urged him to focus on mastering that particular role and find more ways to attack the box other than cutting inside from the left. We can assume that SAF would also have a more established player ahead of him to serve as an example of where the bar is, instead of just throwing silly money at his feet. It's true that he wouldn't tolerate this p[articular version of Rashford, but he wouldn't have allowed it to come to the point where a whole organization is trying to find a role for its "golden boy".

Man Utd 3:2 FK Bodo/Glimt New
I liked the tactical tweak. Close enough to goal, but on the right so he is forced to run in behind mainly. With Amad close to feed him. It may work.

We could just copy and paste people's comments on his other games, and save some bandwidth.

I think he's the weakest option for the front 3. Hopefully we utilise him from the bench more.
Yeah I don't think the role suits him at all. At his best, he can still be an asset, but I'm struggling to see how he fits into the team, he's just not the right profile for any position in this set up.

He's not the right profile for any position in any set up.

He's been shite for years and had a purple patch under one manager before quickly downing (his limited) tools.

Instead of trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, as is so often the case with United players, hopefully the club make the obvious decision to sell him.

When their striker ran through on goal down that right channel I never for one moment thought he’d miss. When Rashford was put through onto the exact same part of the box I never for one moment thought he’d score.
To be fair, Rashford was a lot wider. Those chances aren’t that comparable.

That’s what I mean. He was through on goal and chose to delay his shot until he was very wide. I thought he didn’t need to go that wide.

Could be wrong. Haven’t seen any replays.
With the Bodo player, De Ligt made a step backwards which fully opened the goal for the attacker and he basically made the decision for him. Rashford went too far, thus making the goal smaller.
