I think so. I´d speculate that Sporting would accept an offer in the region of 22/23 or even 20 but with objectives (winning the league or Champions League qualification).

If it's all up front I think €20m would do it.

We can´t drive a very hard bargain because unlike Carvalho´s till 2018 contract, Rojo´s ends in about 1 and half year (counting the January negotiation effect) i think

I'd definitely prefer Blind as he's a good replacement for Carrick and has more quality at LB than Rojo.

But he isnt a CB. If our priority is a CB not a CM then its obviously Rojo

There's no reason we shouldnt get both

He's played centre half all season so it'll be more than likely that that's where he'll be used here.
Never seen him play at CB so that's why I'm mostly reserving my judgment on him. Opinions seem mixed so far, though.

Agree with this.

Would people take Rojo or Blind? Similar players, Blind can play on midfield while Rojo can't but Blind is not as good as a CB as Rojo as far as i know.
That's the reason why I'd go for Blind, especially as we're short in midfield. Nevertheles, both are not going to really improve our first XI

I remember he was pretty highly rated three years ago. I have not really followed him in his Sporting days, any Portuguese fans want to share an opinion? How does he do compared to Evans and Smalling?

If we do sign him I think it shows we just can't bring in the top players at the moment - maybe because of no CL football.

Rojo - to me - looks like at best a second tier player.

Who would be the top tier left footed CB who could play LB too?

Cons are he lacks consistency, sometimes suffers lapses of concentration & has a dodgy disciplinary record. On his day he can be very good but Smalling & Evans are both better.

I see alot of negativity. United fans have to be realistic. Of course there are better players than Rojo but you have no Champions League spot and are coming from an atypical year. Furthermore, most top european leagues are about to start. It´s harder to do deals now because of that timing. Rojo is an interesting option due to a number of reasons i´ve enumerated. The main one is obviously Van Gaal. He´s a world class manager with an extremely good track record in mentoring players. I personally think that he will be a very good influence on Rojo. If you are trying to buy him, it´s obviously Van Gaal´s choice. I´d be willing to bet that in one year most United fans will be pleased to have Rojo.

Mark Red would be a decent signing, and if it pisses off the muppets then I'm sure Van Gaal will somehow get over that.

B-but they all put their stern faced-post skins on when they told me CL football will have no influence on our player pulling power...

I hope we sign him but.....
....we're going to run into issues with third party ownership here.....I hope Ed doesn't balls this up for weeks and we end with none.....i.e. Herrera II

Get it done now, 11 years to the day we signed Ronaldo.

Is this done or just speculation?

I mean someone asked on the last page could he play tonight against Valencia.. I missing something here..

young and not so familiar with the Internet I take it?

I haven't watched him perform for Sporting and only saw him at the World Cup where he looked solid and was a key contributor to a surprisingly stingy defense which many thought would be Argentina's weakness heading in to the tournament. What I have gathered from what you're saying is that he has many good attributes for a CB that Van Gaal would like, is left footed and can also put in a shift at LB when required. If LVG can help him improve his consistency he would be a very good player from us. Seeing as how you've actually seen him play very frequently I'll be optimistic while waiting to judge this transfer until I get to see him play, assuming a deal is agreed upon.
