Marcos Rojo | Manchester United Player Pending Medical

This is stupid. We invest 20 mill on a fourth centre back to play the 5-3-2 while LVG complains that he can't play his preferred 4-3-3 due to lacking wingers.

If or when we move to a back four, he will provide cover at LB, something we need and also capable of playing CB too. It's expensive but I think he's the type of play we could do with, even if I don't know much about how good he is.

How difficult would it have been for them to mention the forum by name considering the most insightful bit in that whole article was the bit they stole from here?

Completely agree.

Yeah they'd definitely have conceeded more than 4 goals in the first 2 games. It definitely wasn't incompetant selection. Oh wait

Smalling and Jones played more world cup games at CB than Rojo. Number of games at CB doesn't determine who is better
Weren't they rather silly statistics to show as he played LB. It would be like showing Muller and his shots on target statistic compared to Manuel Neuers.

Love that he seems dead set on playing for us. Exactly what LvG was supposedly after.

Haha this guy is super keen on joining United. Lots of activity on Instagram.

Yeah he uses the instagram alot. Get ready to see family pics with United kits. They used to do that with Sporting kits, specially his little girl.

I hope Eurosport copy pastes my opinion about Paulo Bento too. Absolutely love the guy :smirk:

Should this go through (looking very likely) then all three of our major transfers this summer will have been revealed on social media.

Herrera changed his twitter picture to him and Sir Bobby before it was announced.

Luke Shaw changed his twitter information to "Manchester United player" before it was announced.

Rojo followed a lot of our players, liked images related to United on instagram.

What a world we're living in. We just need Di Maria and Vidal to use their social media more and they'll be signed!

To add to my previous point, Rojo just favourited this twitter post (no idea what it says, but doesn't take a genius):

This one too:

Which congratulates him for another step in his career.

Our club even dither about with announcements.

I love the fact he's so happy and determined to play for us. Can't wait to see him in a red shirt.

We are on a roll.

4 signings already in 2014 and we still have just under two weeks left.

Personally, prefer to get some more attacking threat and a midfielder. Can live with that for this year. Top up in January, if required.

It is extremely expensive for a future back-up CB/LB. If LVG has already been told that he won't get the necessary players he wants to play a 4-3-3 when he is at United then it makes sense. Perfect signing for the 5-3-2, terrible for when we revert to a 4-3-3 in which case he becomes our fourth choice CB and 2nd choice LB.

No, we still need at least a midfielder.

No, we still need at least a midfielder.

Quality midfielder is the most necessary for me after Rojo.

I'd be content with One top CM and Rojo even though we could ofcourse use another quality CB if we are sticking with 3-5-2 or another Winger or 2 if we are going 4-3-3.

Even if we buy a DM/CM I'm a little panicking about our wing-backs if Shaw or Rafael are injured.
Alas, can't we just sign Benatia & Di Maria and carry on with a 4-3-3?

You are too optimistic, it's still Ed Woodward.
Is it though. Too much finger pointing without any evidence regarding Ed. Last year he made bids public and he got lambasted. This year, we haven't seen one accurate communication saying a bid had been rejected, other than Herrera and he signed this next day.

It is only twitter rumors which are getting people excited. We have no idea whether we have bid for Vidal, Di Maria, Cuadrado, Benetia. They are fans wishes, and it is hard to believe LVG would not be interested. However, a quick chat with their agent may have made these no goers from the start in that the current team won't sell or the player doesn't want to go to United.

I still fancy us getting some one in midfield and I would really like someone that can put the ball in the net.

I am pretty sure Valencia can do a Solid job right side in that role. Young on the left is more unconvincing defensively, though there's James as well who is more unconvincing going forward. Varela did pretty well playing as a Wing back in this system on the left for the U21s last week too and deserves a go at some stage (weird Lingard is playing RWB ahead of him).

Anyway, if we control the match in midfield and defense and our structured as a team then the Wingbacks have to contribute more in attack than defense anyway. For that we have enough options. We can upgrade and it would be good but not as essential as a Midfield signing.

So, without being a smartarse, none of us should be offering any opinions on here until, with hindsight, we've been proven right? Did you, for example, take the same view when Moyes was signing Fellaini? As for the bolded part, is there anyone on here that actually thinks they know better than Van Gaal? But you'd have to be nuts to think he, or any manager, is infallible.

To be honest I think it depends on what the opinion is based on. If it's watching a player play football that's fair game, we all have opinions. I had opinions about Fellaini when I heard we were in for him and I hoped that my opinions were wrong then.

But if it's the price tag that is the basis of the opinion then that's getting it the wrong way round. All over this forum we've got people bemoaning the fact that we didn't buy players like Benatia and Strootman when they were cheap and available. I'm going for the idea that we're buying him at the right moment, until proven otherwise.

I think it is, the club lined up Shaw & Herrera prior to LVG's arrival, so why not do the same with a CB, it was obvious that we needed at least one, just for the sake of squad width. If LVG didn't like the lined up option, they could've still moved on to another target, same with Shaw & Herrera, but they obviously didn't and now there are 13 days left.

I'm really keen on seeing Varela or Janko play for the first team, don't know how soon that could happen though. I think Valencia is pretty poor, looks like a passenger without any determination or bite anymore, Young looked fresh and aggressive in pre-season.

Agree, but it may be that LVG did like the option, the option has agreed, but the other team will only do business when they have a replacement. As yet that may not have happened hence no announcement. It is a bit like PSG, sell one or two players and Di Maria is probably theirs. They haven't sold so it is a stalemate. Di Maria may have us as an option, but he is waiting until the last possible moment because PSG may drop their demands for their players and they sell. It only needs one event to make most transfers happen. If we get Di Maria, maybe Real Madrid get Falco and another set of events happen. Who knows. If we get what the LVG wants, it will be interesting how many fans will back track on bashing Ed. Ed doesn't choose the players, LVG does.

Nowhere near ready. I think Wilson is the only one ready. He is really special. Get him the squad before a loan ruins him.

I think us not reverting to a 4-3-3 might have as much to do with the players we do have as those we don't. We're front loaded with strikers/#10's so maybe any permanent shift to 4-3-3 is dependent on clearing some of them out and re-balancing the squad properly? I mean we haven't exactly been brilliant when it comes to selling our players either....

Anyway, is it really that bad having this guy as a fourth choice CB? I mean just by being a) fit and b) left footed he probably offers us something that most of our other CBs can't. Besides, who knows if he'll remain our fourth choice? Giving Evans, Jones and Smalling a chance is fair enough but there should be competition for these places too.
