So is he fit and will he start at Sunderland. No pressure on the lad.
He strikes me as the type who'll thrive on that sort of pressure. The kind of cockiness that rubbed me the wrong way when I saw him during the World Cup, but I'll cherish and cheer now that he's ours.

Yes, I'm a hypocrite.

Good. Lets hope this is really done dealio then or we'll all look like bell ends!

Eh? You're the one claiming he's average, not me. Hence I'm asking you how mud you've seem to from this opinion ?

I have no opinion if him because I've barely seen him and don't judge a player when I've not seen them properly.

I reckon you're actually answering my question with an another question because you want to avoid the question and have actually barely seen rojo.

It doesnt matter if he's average or the not, whether I've seen him or not, we need proven quality at the back to sort out a bunch of lads that can't seem to organise themselves when under a bit of pressure.

The fact is nobody ever heard of the bloke before the world cup. That, to me, is worrying.

That's the point I'm making.

There is no "available right now" if the price is right mate.

The same way that Real, Barcelona, PSG, Chelsea, City get their defenders when they need one, regardless of price and if they're "available".

Barca have signed Mathieu and Vermaelen and struggling to sign a RB. Hardly inspiring.

City have signed Mangala for big money and he might have potential but Rojo was better last season.

PSG have overpaid for fecking Luiz. A season after overpaying for a project in Marquinhos.

Chelsea have bought Zouma and their last CB purchase was Cahill.

There were a bunch of major teams looking for CB's this summer and none have really signed Proven quality as such. Arsenal, Bayern now still looking.

Are you saying he's above average and we don't need quality?

I'm going to answer your question with another since you've not focused on the main point of my comment which is that we need quality, proven quality at that.
We need players that fits in to the managers tactics Van Gaal has never been a manager who goes after the highest rated players. He is a team builder he gets players who fits in to his team and tactics and if he thinks Rojo is a good fit for his tactics then Rojo is exactly what we need. Whatever quality you think he is.

Gill signed Nani and then drove up to Porto to sign Anderson the same day. Come on Woody, get north and nab Di Maria.

So you don't know if he's average or not. You shouldn't have said he's average in the first place when you didn't have a clue.

It does matter if you're talking about Rojo cause you must base your opinion on sthing.
In any case you dont know if he's average and you havent seen much of the portuguese league.

Nobody? You can talk for everyone? Lemme ask you this, did you knew Vidic before he signed for United? I´m willing to bet you didn´t.

I doubt many people heard of that Nemanja chap we signed back in 2006 either, he turned out fairly good.

EDIT: Screw you @Sly :)

So we wanted to get rid of some dead wood this season and were going to sign some more deadwood, wonderful

He's an Argentinian international defender for god sake what more do you want we are not going to get Hummels he's happy at Dortmund, to label someone deadwood before they've kicked a ball is ridiculous.

This place is beginning to depress me

I've answered. If you don't like the answer, move on.

No, actually you haven't answered anything. You haven't answered how many times you've seen him play for Sporting ( and basing on this, you're right to make a judgement whether he's good enough or not, not on some tripe such as 'i haven't heard about him before wc so he's not good enough ), you haven't answered question about left-footed, ball playing CBs that are experienced / proven quality that are obtainable.

You're simply making assumptions that are based on absolutely nothing and do it for the sake of complaining. Better move on.

Edit: and yea, basically what @Sly said, same thing was on my mind, how many people have heard about Vidić prior to joining us.

He's a good player, has the attributes weve been lacking, not injury prone and still has room to grow at 24 years old. and for 16m? thats the first Decent buy we've made in terms of actual value.

Listen. If you're fine with us signing him, who from all accounts I've been reading, hadn't performed very well against top opposition, then fair enough.

I'm not.

Well, you're perfectly entitled to have doubts about a signing. I'm not so forgiving of the moron who has written Rojo off as deadwood already though.

Again, read my initial post. Why are we addressing our obvious defense issues with someone that is a risky signing?

Happy with Rojo as a new signing, not so happy to loose Nani.

We really are completely useless at transfers, when was the last time we got a good deal?
Patrice Evra, Vidic, Phil Jones and RVP off the top of head. That's not exactly a good thing considering that's over 9 years.

Because we're failing to obtain / unwilling to spend on more expensive defenders. If you add those criterias such as ball playing, left footed, etc., then only defender that comes to my mind is Chiellini.

As charley said, you're entitled to have doubts about a signing, fair enough, but it's just stupid to label him as 'average' unless you've seen him play.

Evidently not. It seems a bunch of people are just waiting to pounce on anyone that is questioning this signing, as per usual.
