I think Mangala is so highly rated because he has scored 14 goals in 3 seasons for FC Porto.....he's worth maybe 20m
Didn't they end up paying double that? Ridiculous money. £40m could get you any centre back in the world.

would be a very good signing i think, at 16 million pound also.

evans, smalling, jones, rojo and blacklett (with m.keane loan out) as our CB choices for next season sounds pretty good.

don't know anything about him, but he can't be to bad if he made the world cup team of the tournament thing and played in the final. £16 doesn't seem like a great amount of money and he is only 24.
Would be nice to see us just wrap up a few more deals to fill some of the holes in the team, particularly at the back.

To be honest, I have no idea. With him being South American I would imagine so.

They pronounced it 'Roho' on SSN earlier but they don't know their arse from their elbow.
It's somewhere in between. Think of the j as a bit like how scousers scrape their k's.

I saw him at the world cup and was impressed. I actually thought about him at OT. Didn't know he was a CB either.

This will drag on too :-(
I felt that this will get sorted quickly like the Herrera signing. But no, this will drag on.
Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal will be interested soon(at least according to the papers and twitter).

No thanks, Unless its for 500k.

Seems you are right, apologies as I was under impression he was sold for £12m by an incorrect article from the daily mail.

No worries mate, was just rectifying the info.

Sportings president is furious with him. LOVE IT!!!

Shows that he wants to come here badly....I think...

Yeah...No. Sporting´s President is the last person you would want to mess with in a negotiation. Even so what i understand from his words the blame lies squarely on the agent/funds shoulders. One thing is certain, he won´t play this weekend. Rojo should know by now (with Bruma and Ilori) you can´t blackmail him. You just end up paying more like Liverpool and Galatasaray did.

Do you think he'll leave Sly?

I think a transfer is inevitable. Not sure there's much Sporting can do if Doyen sports owns 75% of the player.

I´ve said this since yesterday, i´m 90% sure he will leave. It´s just a matter of knowning to where. If the President finds out that United is doing backstage work to unsettle Rojo, i wouldn´t be surprised if he ends up somewhere else. But it seems that he is blaming the fund and agent. Doyen can own 75% of his right but like he said yesterday in the interview, he´s the one who decides what bid to accept. After the Rojo deal, it´s the end of Doyen involvement with Sporting in future deals in my opinion.

According to Duncan Castles(I know, I know)

According to a source close to the deal, should Sporting refuse to sell to United for the €20m offered, the Portuguese club will be contractually bound to pay Doyen 75 percent of the value of the rejected bid. That €15m would have to be paid within a fortnight.

Can't see Sporting paying this to the agency. Hence I'm sure that this deal will take place.

Duncan "im honestly not a bitter" Castles? Not like him to post an article about Utd signing a player. According to him all we do is miss out on players.

Anyway, as you say, if you put yourself in a position where you only own 25% of the economic rights to a player you really are on a hiding to nothing. Inevitable he will come here.

He denied this yesterday in the interview. There are no record of this kind of procedure and not even our last inept and incompetent President would agree to this. He is also tied to Sporting for 3 more years and not 1 and half (considering the january negotiation end of contract issue) like i said yesterday.

This deal was signed by the previous President (the David Moyes of Chairmans). This kind of percentage deals have ended the day Bruno de Carvalho got appointed President of Sporting. It´s inevitable he will leave but not to United. Like i said, if he finds out United has been in the backstage unsettling the player, i´m almost sure he won´t come to United. He will set an example out of Rojo.

Like you say - he had an opportunity to have a pop at Utd yesterday and didn't. I don't think we've done anything other than react positively after being approach by Doyen.

Doyen having no say despite owning 75% of rights makes no sense though. Surely they would have some sort of clause to safeguard themselves.

Or Sporting can absolutely take them for a ride in many ways.

That´s just speculation from your part. What he said, is that he´s the one who decides what bid to take. The fact that the player has been disciplined and still at Sporting proves that. If the fund had any control on that Rojo would have been transfered already surely. Doyen also has/had majority of percentage in some Porto/Benfica players. Did they dictate to where and when the player should be sold? No. Porto´s chairman for example would never allow that.

So Sporting can sell him for 5/6 million euros, adjust the remaining money in some other deal and Doyen could really do nothing about it ? Or Sporting can reject bigger bids as he is worth 5 million euros to them and they could do nothing ?

I am not saying that Doyen controls 100% where he goes but they'll surely have some sort of say and safeguard their interests with a clause like what Castles said. Or it makes little sense from their perspective (Ultimately they are running a business).

If that clause type thing is true (Not exactly that but something similar even) then Sporting president probably feels that by rejecting this bid he can make Doyen give extra share to Sporting as if i read correctly from their 25% some has to go to his previous club as well or this late in the Window get extra few millions/upfront cash from the buying club by delaying it in technicalities and legalities till august end.

Well i don´t know all the details either. What i do know is that the President denied the existence of that clause yesterday in a live interview. And that´s good enough for me. I´m sure the fund has some guarantees regarding their investment but the call in what concerns a possible deal belongs to the President. And that makes perfect sense. The fund will always get their fair share. Our President is just trying to defend our interests and get more money. We did save him from a his nightmare stage at Spartak and helped his career. It was thanks to us that he revitalized his career, got a world cup call up and is now attracting big club interest. We want compensation for that.

The devil usually lies in the detail of such denials. I haven't seen the interview or understand portuguese to know what exactly was denied and what wasn't in specific terms.

I understand you want compensation but really can't complain that much if 75% of the rights are owned by someone else. They have invested in the player as well and taken a risk plus haven't really gotten any return yet even in the playing sense like Sporting have. Should have bought a larger share earlier maybe.

I think this deal will happen, and it's just haggling between the 3 parties now that a Big Club is involved. (As long as Southampton was involved the asking price was 20 million euros bandied about constantly.) Nobody else seems interested at those levels and he clearly wants to Move to United.

You own only 25% though so regardless what happens you'll get a smaller fee than you ought to for him.

We will always get a smaller fee. We just want a bigger compensation and not just marginal profit. We don´t want to end up in loss like Benfica with Garay.

Yep but whether United pay €20m or €25m is little difference to you.

Every million count mate. We are not United where a million doesn´t make a difference. You know that top clubs like Sporting, Porto and Benfica get 1/3 of what a bottom english club get from tv money? Transfer money is crucial for portuguese top clubs.

No thanks, Unless its for 500k.

I meant that the papers will start reporting that crap and the transfer speculation will turn in that direction. Did not mean that those clubs will be interested in him.
Having said that, Chelsea have always been in the business of suddenly jumping and signing players being tracked by others. Won't be surprised if that does happen(although Rojo clearly is not at a level where clubs will fight for him)
