Makes so much sense this. Let's see him posing with the shirt Woody. Us muppets are hungry from watching the space

Tevez is an utter cnut but you can't deny he played well for us.

Rooney-Tevez-Ronaldo still most fearsome attacking trio in Prem history imo.

He certainly wasn't brilliant. One good season, one bang average one. Even at his best, his main attribute was workrate, Didn't look anything like the player he was for City, that's for sure.

On the plus side, he had a knack for scoring important goals, in big games. He was a bit like Heinze in the way he relished a challenge and the drama of a derby. If that's an Argie national trait, then this Rojo dude could be a great signing.

I'd reckon we are using Blind as a back up should we fail to land Vidal as he can play in midfield as well as defense. I'd buy them both personally and get rid of Fellaini and Cleverley. We would then have 3 very good midfielders and two very capable in reserve. Finally a midfield that could compete but I'm just being greedy.
Wow I hope not!

There's a fella on here who supports Sporting and gave the rundown on him. Said he's a nutter with plenty passion. Seems like Heinze type character to me if that's true

A useful signing. Left foot and also can play as a left back. Just what we need if we play 3 CB. I can't trust Blackett. Evans is an injury prone and Keane is a right footer. I didn't pay attention on him that much. We will see what quality he can bring.

How good is Rojo compared to say Benatia? I honestly haven't seen much of him.

@Sly Is Rojo left footed or right footed? And what is the state of his non-preferred foot? You must be tired of all the questions being pelted at you now. Thanks for giving us more info on him.

He´s left footed mate. Our President is going to give an interview in our club channel at 9.30pm and will probably talk about the Rojo issue. I´ll tell all the updates here.

Rojo...well where do i start. Sporting fans have a love/hate relationship with Rojo.

He is a very professional player and respectful towards the club since we saved him from his Spartak Moscow career stage nightmare. He is a very physical player. He´s pacy and a very good man marker. I think he is better as CB rather than LB. Simeone and Maradona disagree though. Problem is... Sporting isn´t Argentina. He has performed way better as CB rather than LB at Sporting.

He can be an absolute beast and dominate games in a flawless way. But then there´s the inconsistency. He is very prone to positional errors and concentration lapses. He is also a complete nutcase. He´s been sent off so many times in very stupid fashion. He has a very poor disciplinary record. It´s always the same thing with Rojo. He gets sent off and costs us a game and he starts getting booed and people at the stands say that we are better off selling him. But then he comes back and plays spectaculary again for 5 or 6 games till he does the same crappy judgement errors.

Key issue with Rojo is that he needs a mentally strong and disciplinarian manager. A manager with personality. It´s not a surprise that Rojo´s best phase at Sporting was last year with now Mónaco manager Leonardo Jardim. He was a very strict manager. I think Van Gaal could control and improve him even more. Ronaldo Koeman, with what he showed at Benfica, i highly doubt that.

I'm quite surprised at this signing actually. I thought he was decent without being outstanding at the World Cup but I remember Sly's assessment above (Sly lives in Lisbon) from P1, and thought he doesn't sound too promising ... a lot of responsibility for his development now on LvG's shoulders.

Pleased with this if it goes through, him and Blackett in that LCB role.. position of strength.

Search "Rojo" on twitter  everyone's going on like we're signing the next Titus Bramble for gods sake.

The majority of United fans have only seen him play at the World Cup, where he was actually decent. Let him kick a ball for us first!

Now I know...

As it's Bramble > Zidane, I wouldn't worry about Rojo ;)

So that Sporting guy reckons he's a very talented defender who makes the odd error (not unusual for young defenders) but who has a shocking disciplinary record. I imagine that playing in a winning team and with a strict manager should help that aspect but it's nonetheless a bit of a concern. On the plus side we could have the most lunatic defence in the Prem if we can line up something like Shaw Rojo Jones Rafael!

Look forward to seeing him in our shirt.

Are we forgetting the part where Tevez went to Manchester City?

Heinze was good too in the beginning and a fan favorite until he tried to go to Liverpool.

There's no denying the quality of Veron, Heinze and Tevez, but they always seemed more mercenary than your average professional footballer.

I haven't seen him play since he left - but he was absolutely woeful for Spartak. Up there with Insaurralde as the worst centre back they've had for a long while. He made error after error after error and became a laughing stock. Obviously his reputation has been rebuilt since then but I have major reservations.

So i´ve watched our President´s interview and he said that Rojo has a contract and that we aren´t pressured by funds or other interests. Because of Rojo´s unprofessional behaviour in the last two days he will be subjected to a disciplinary procedure (not relegated to the B team like some media outlets said). He also said that Sporting is willing to discuss transfers but in the appropriate terms and not by media, agent or fund pressure. Interest of the club above all. That´s it.

Oh and he still has 3 years of contract after all.

I'm satisfied with his world cup performance, solid at the back, good at tackles. But shy going forward.
At15.9m, he seems to be decent signing.

At least he would be a better choice than Vermaelen.

Just saw LvG's interview where he says Evans and Shaw might not be fit for the Swansea game. Made me even happier that we didn't sign another injury plagued defender. Rojo might not be amazing but at least he has a chance of being fit enough to play regularly.

Bet Woodward's eager to pay the release clause so he can stick the cheque book back into the safe and pat himself on the back.

It's rough out here. I'd love a muppet signing or 2 but as long as the player fits the managers requirements I will be happy. Oh and signing Vidal of course
Can you really see that happening though?

Just so I understand correctly... the reason we're signing the underwhelming / disappointing first choice Argentina defender, fresh from the final of the world cup, in which he was named in the team of the tournament, is because he will only be back-up to Evans, Jones and Smalling?

I love those three as much as anybody, but people need to get a grip - this is a very high level player we're buying here. He's between Jones and Smalling in age, but has more caps for Argentina than both of those two have for England put together... he's got nearly as many caps as Evans has for Northern Ireland, in fact.
