Marcos Rojo | Manchester United Player Pending Medical

I remember a thread in the World Cup forum asking who looked good and I said Rojo.

Guys... I think I might be Louis Van Gaal.

If he is as decent a CB as he was a LB at the WC, then surely he's a better option than Vermaelen?
Young, talented, good enough and without checking most likely less injury prone than Vermaelen.
We need a CB, so i'd rather we have him than end up with no one.

Realistic sensible signing who will give us options.

People are just annoyed as they built themselves up for Hummels etc which was never going to happen.

Happy with this should it happen and delighted not getting that Arsenal crock.

I liked the look of him during the WC but I confess to have never seen him at CB. I have heard about him for a-few years now and he's always seemed to be fairly highly rated. Did he not used to be predominately a LB, though?

He made WC team of the tournament; not sure why some are saying he was gash. Napoli were linked too and they're no mugs.

I love this thread. The same 4-5 questions have been asked about 400 times now.

"Can He play Centre back?"
"Isn't he more of a left back?"
"Why are we going with plan z/b/c/q?"
"Wasn't he poor at the WC?

This is a great signing if true. Looking forward to it.

@Sly Is Rojo left footed or right footed? And what is the state of his non-preferred foot? You must be tired of all the questions being pelted at you now. Thanks for giving us more info on him.

At this point I'm just happy we might actually be getting a defender in. Left back option as well.
I'm pretty confident in Evans and also that one of Smalling/Jones will become top drawer.

Does this mean were not getting Blind?

Judging by that rabona clearance he did in his own box, I'm guessing he's left footed and his right is probably not wonderful

Being a better signing than Vermaelen is not a high bar to clear.

I don't see us needing much better quality, we need numbers of the same quality in defense. Getting Hummels is impossible, but Benatia for example sounds possible yet more expensive.
Say we use 15 million on Rojo and then buy (example) Vidal for big bucks, i'd be very satisfied with that.
I doubt what they keep saying about us not having a transfer limit, so if it's needed for balancing the books then i'm all for it.
Rojo is also young and can develop into a great defender.

Another Argie. It will end in tears just like the rest of the ones we had.

I'd reckon we are using Blind as a back up should we fail to land Vidal as he can play in midfield as well as defense. I'd buy them both personally and get rid of Fellaini and Cleverley. We would then have 3 very good midfielders and two very capable in reserve. Finally a midfield that could compete but I'm just being greedy.

So let me get this straight... his best position is CB, but he was picked for the WC best XI as a LB (wasn't some bloke named Scholes shuttled out wide as a winger for his country as well), and supposedly LVG wants him.

And the Caf slates him ;).

Well based on this preseason I'd say the last part of the first sentence is all I care about.

If LVG wants him, sign him.

Meh. Garay would've been way better, but atleast a defender. I don't watch the Portuguese league and those who follow it closely say he isn't very good. All this talk about having so much money available, a guy like Benatia being available and then ending up with a guy like Rojo is very underwhelming.

Tevez was an absolute brilliant player for us, wdf are you lot on about?

Exactly.
Veron was probably the best player in his position when we signed him, unfortunately it did not work out for him but he was a tremendous player now one can deny that. Just did not suit the pace of the premier league.
Heinze was very good until Evra took his position and then he wanted Liverpool move.
Tevez was brilliant for us and would have stayed for sure if we were willing to pay the fee asked.

Tevez is an utter cnut but you can't deny he played well for us.

Rooney-Tevez-Ronaldo still most fearsome attacking trio in Prem history imo.

I was joking, but thanks for your input which i agree with.

As for Rojo. I thought he was very hot and cold during the world cup attacking wise, but defensively he was pretty solid. I'm happy with this addition?, Asuming we get another top quality centre half in :nervous:

Tevez, Veron, Heinze all were fan favourites and left the club with a lot of bad blood. I used to love Heinze, he used to look like Faramir from LOTR :D

Tevez was an integral part of a CL and Premier league winning front line, starting 75 games scoring 34 goals and making 14 assists.
Rooney in the same period started 78 scored 38 goals and made 26 assists.
Ronaldo who was a god for us started 95 games scored 69 goals and made 16 assists.

Not bad at all for a player who apparently did not turn up in big games, I also don't think he would have turned into the twat he subsequently became if we had signed him permanently. SAF would've kept him in check.

I'm willing to trust van Gaal's judgement on the matter. He is very thorough when it comes to a player's physical and mental attributes. That's what has established him as one of the best judges of players' potential wherever he has worked. If he says Rojo is the LCB he wants, i'm fine with it.

I understand some fans expected someone who would come here and immediatly become a leader at the back, but i don't think there are many available out there. With Barcelona and City searching for a CB, if Hummels was really available he would already have been sold. And definitely the forum's favourites, Mangala and Garay aren't at that level.

If Rojo joins United, he has all the potential to become a value for money transfer for us. There are many aspects which decide if a deal is good or not. For example i believe that Moreno at 15m is a much better choice for the scousers than the 32m City paid for Mangala.

Rojo can cover 2 positions, he's quick and can play in a high defensive line, which is the most important thing for a modern defender. As a bonus, he is familiar with the 3-5-2, 3-4-3.

Anyway here's a little something, if it hasn't already been posted

This one really shows how little the journos know. Seemingly another signing out of nowhere.

So he was back up to vermaelen? Christ.
