I see people comparing him with Benatia but you have to remember that Benatia only achieved his potential the last two years at 25 years old. For all we know Rojos could become our brand new Vidic and become a top player.
It's plan b after Vermaelen. LvG clearly wants a left-footed CB.
Wow why are we continually lowering the bar? We get linked with a worst player every week.
Same could be said for Blind, who seems to be everyone's favourite on the Caf.
Our goalkeeper is superior, and I guess our CB's aren't according to LVG.
Their defence isn't exactly great. They did well at the World Cup because of the way they were set up, but their only great defender is Garay imo who we went to Zenit for £4.5m. It's pretty clear simply by checking the clubs that they play for that the defenders aren't anything special.
EDIT: I forgot Zabaleta also. He is of course a fantastic defender.

He played as a left back there though, pretty sure Shaw will most likely be first choice. I hope this guy is as impressive as a CB.

Garay didn't go to Zenit for that much. That deal was structured weirdly with third party owners and adjustments of previous payments etc..but it was more than 4.5 million.
Still cheap but not that much.

Would be a good signing for a decent price (if £16m is correct). Would be useful cover at both CB/LB when we do switch to LVG's preferred 4-3-3.

Other names were on his list, we failed to sign them. Rojo is an average left footed defender, and no better than our crop. We need more quality if we are to be back.
Was happy(ish) with this signing if he came for the £9m like suggested before... nearly double that now... doesn't seem worth it at all.

I think Rojo will prove to be a decent buy. Can play in a couple positions, young and provides good depth to an area we desperately need it.
Vidal's aim is to usurp him.
Mostly it's 'he's not Hummels/Benatia/Subotić/X/Y/Z' I believe.

Whilst I agree I'm not sure about the valuation stuff. We don't know how much he's going to cost, and they usually rape clubs like us on transfer fees.
Wow, surprised at all the negativity about him on here. Admittedly I have only seen him playing in the World Cup (not in his best position by all accounts) but I thought he was one of the better players in that tournament. Good age, versatile, room to develop further, decent price in today's climate....what's not to like?
Obviously has talent and the manager likes him. I'll wait for him to play for us before judging him. That's if we sign him at all.

No one knows his list, for all we know he was probably the second Cb after Vermaelen on that list.
Definitely, everybody seems to be underrating Evans since the Liverpool game. Make no mistake, even after signing Rojo, Evans will still be our number 1 cb.
As long as he's only backup for Evans, Jones and Smalling I don't see the problem, I suspect Vermaelen was only our first choice due to his PL experience
15 million Euros i think. I think Benficas share was 6 million euros as 50% was supposed to go to Madrid and some to someone else.
Anyway, it may have been more adding in previous adjustments as they obviously wanted to reduce the fee going to Real.

I prefer these type of signings (if we get him) compared to the ready made world class players, that we never seem to get anyway.

If the stories about LvG wanting a left footed CB are true then I'd imagine Rojo would indeed be starting for us.
