Eh? I was referring to Rojo when I said we'd be killing two birds with one stone, which is probably why the price is so high, although I don't think he'll go for that much anyway.

Haven't seen enough of Benatia to comment, but I'm pretty sure he can only play centre back, right?

Ya, sorry, my mistake. Ya, Benatia is just a cb, but on a completely different level to Rojo. €20m is acceptable, but anything more is extortionate imo.

From the BBC story:

He played at left-back in every game of Argentina's World Cup campaign, including the final, when they lost 1-0 to Germany after extra-time.

He also scored in their 3-2 group game win against Nigeria in Porto Alegre.

He's clearly not too shabby as a player, why are certain people so underwhelmed by this transfer?

To be honest, with it looking likely that Young will play wing back, along with Shaw, Rafael and Valencia, we have enough options there, in my opinion.

If, as you say, Benatia is a world class centre back, we should probably focusing on getting a specialist player who is very good in one set position, rather than a versatile player who is decent in two or three.

Very happy with this if it goes through, which is extremely likely now.

I think we should all send Barcelona a thank you email for taking Vermaelen so that we could get Rojo instead.

At £16m he could be a good singing. From what I understand he is very talented but has disciplinary issues which have so far prevented him from reaching his full potential. Still only 24 so plenty of time to sort himself out.

1 or 2 Liverpool fans on Twitter saying they are gutted and really rate him. Also a few people who watch Portuguese Football are saying he's big. Certainly was good at the World Cup, part of a really good Argies defence that only conceded 1 goal in the entire knockout stages. Rojo also scored v Nigeria in the groups.

So a starter for the Argentina WC team isnt good enough for United...okay

I think he's a good signing personally but a starter for Argentina's defence (other than Zabaletta and possible Garay) is not exactly that great a thing. They aren't stocked in those positions with talent

Kinda reminds me of Rafael, if he were taller.

Clear strengths - aggression in both boxes, heading ability, physically strong and fairly quick, very comfortable on the ball.

Clear weaknesses - positional awareness, showboating and a bit mental
That looks like Tweety to me.. only if his head was a bit bigger

And yet they barely let in any goals in the entire World Cup.

To be honest I'd much prefer Rojo than Blind. We need some muscle and physicality in our backline. Blunt doesn't offer us that and for me he is overrated and still unproven.
Yeh he just doesn't cut it. :p
