Marco Verratti

Juve simply DO. NOT. have the cash for a deal like this... not unless they sell Dybala for a massive fee... which should be borne in mind...
They might actually. Problem is PSG will sooner keep him in the stands than sell to juventus.

That, and they can't compete with barcelona. Neither in terms of prosime of CL glory, nor wages

His agent says he doesn't believe in the financial power of an Italian club to acquire him in the short run. True that he is a fan of Juve.

In the last days, Verratti met with a representative of Barcelona - Javier Bordas - in Ibiza.

I expect a lot of blah blah this summer but certainly not a move given the mentality of Qatari owners.

Someone should just tell Dugarry to shut up. First time I hear about Verratti's way of life allegedly leading to injuries and I'm not sure how Dugarry knows about it, but to call him "anything but a great player" is plain stupidity.

Also, it reminded me what he said 20 days ago about Totti:
“I cannot put Totti among the legends.
“If he was such a strong player, then Roma would not have won just a single title. A legend wins so much more than this."

IIRC the Qatari owner used to threaten teams that try to sign PSG star players. He stated that, in return, he will bid or unsettle the team star players. In this case, maybe he will bid for Messi or Neymar if Barca persist. The Qatari owner sure have the financial might to do it. Great soap opera in the making!

Verratti smokes and goes a lot in night clubs. His lack of professionnalism leads to injuries. He missed a lot of big games for PSG and for Italy too ( he missed the Euro for example).

And yeah Verratti is a good player not a great player...when he plays ;)

The stand of psg is absolutely right on Verrati. He is 100M pr plus in this market. Its Time barcelona and madrid feel the hit of the inflation they contributed to the market.

If he's been meeting with Barca officials, then surely that constitutes as tapping up?

PSG won't have approved that.

Verrattis possee is a poison (his agent tbh), each season they do the same stuff each season. Complain in the media about his role, his worth, his will to leave the club and everytime it ends up with him earning more money. PSG is a weak club like that, no authority whatsoever on its star players.
He's got talent but he hasn't been that good this season, if Barca is seriously interested, they really should sell him for the ridiculous fee touted.

Dugarry makes a lot of fair points on Verratti, makes me a bit concerned about his antics & smoking. Glad the player at least didn't follow through on the rumoured decision to sit out in order to force a Barcelona move. As for tapping up, not sure there's any modern transfer that doesn't involve tapping up - almost pointless to even mention it. But ultimately, I agree, player & agent need to sort things with their ownership/club to facilitate a transfer in a straightforward manner rather than playing games in the media etc

I remain pessimistic that this transfer will occur

It's a bit of an empty threat.

Di Campli is shit and PSG played him very well until now, with all the renewals verratti's wages remain quite low. Now he's being played by Barca who got him to endanger the reputation of his player for a slightly higher chance of signing there.

Of course PSG shouldn't sell him to Barca as they're quickly becoming the most hated club in Paris ahead of Marseille for good reasons and they don't even have the money to offer a proper compensation.

Really think he needs to move though to be honest. With his kind of talent he should be playing in la liga or the premier league. And it'd be a waste for time to spend what should be his best years there. PSG will do what's in their best interest and rightfully so but if someone is willing to pay big money I hope they sell him.

If he really has this attitude along with these constant complaints from his agent, that won't make him any good. But that one is for the future.

Such statement "anything but a great player" is nothing but stupid imo as he is already one of the best in the world in his position, proved at the highest level and there is a list of the very top clubs who would take him in a heartbeat for enormous money. Heard this kinda talk with Modric until he was 26/27 years of age as many people didn't recognise his influence all around the pitch and he was a great player even from the early age. Then again Modric had a totally different approach when it comes to training and professional life (if the rumours are true) so it's up to Verrati will he confirm his current status.

And, if he does have this issues in PSG I think it would be better for both sides to split as he obviously wants a change of destination.

I was surprised to see that Matiudi makes significantly more tham Veratti.

It's not significant, 130k vs 150k per week - only T.Silva & Di Maria make more (200k & 180k, respectively)
Pastore, Motta and Cavani also earn more.

Some would say a million plus more a year is significant.

There is simply just so much of this going on that I think the big clubs have just tacitly agreed not to report each other when they do it. It’s only when a club like Southampton with van Dijk is involved, that they raise the issue.

I also think that in these instantenous media times it's very hard to prove tapping up unless one meets face to face. What can you do if a manager/president of another club is talking to your player with WhatsApp?

So, that would be 6 players ahead of him if true. Wonder how much of a pay rise did he get every year then.
His first contract was €750k/y coming from serie B, then 2m, 3m and 6m.
List I saw showed Cavani making same & Pastore & Motta less
Numbers vary between sources, none of them being truly more reliable than the others.
For example numbers from L'Equipe from december:

Thiago SILVA - 1 100 000 € / month (gross)
Angel DI MARIA - 900 000 €
Edinson CAVANI - 800 000 €
Thiago MOTTA - 800 000 €
Javier PASTORE - 770 000 €
Blaise MATUIDI - 750 000 €
Marco VERRATTI - 500 000 €
Kevin TRAPP - 400 000 €
MARQUINHOS - 400 000 €
Grzegorz KRYCHOWIAK - 400 000 €
Hatem BEN ARFA - 400 000 €
Unai EMERY - 420 000 €

Cavani got a significant raise since so is definitely higher and it seems that Verratti has a huge amount of incentives that may bring him to ~€800k/month.

I had overlooked Cavani's recent extension - the list I saw was from L'Equipe in January

FWIW, I hope the improbable Verratti transfer happens but only if it doesn't drag on until August

More than any other team we should be all over this. Him instead of Fellaini in our mid3 would be insane. With Pogba in a more loose role.

Oh no! Do you think he'd come after Rooney?!?!?!?

I think PSG should for a stupid fee, it would rid the club of a cancer. However if they keep him, I hope they put him in the reserves for a while, for him to eat humble pie and realize how lucky he is in the first place. Make him publicly apologize or something :D

It is going to be tough for PSG to find another midfielder on Veratti's leve.

Some booing from the Parc des Princes will serve as atonement for his sins. :D

A big fee won't do much for us since we have enough money to recruit anyone but no top midfielder is available. Unless we get the unlikely oportunity to sign several top players like Mbappé + Ronaldo.

Professional player and all that

How about FFP ? Wouldn't it help to sell a big player ?

Teams always adapt. They will change their football.

Nah the accounts have been balanced for a a few years now, spending is stable while income is growing steadily. The reported transfer kitty is €220m. Only some Ronaldo levels of megawages + signing fee could challenge FFP rules.

You're talking like a PSG fan, K. I know there are contracts and all that, but I understand Veratti really wanting to move. It would be weird for a player that good to not play in Spain or England till the age of 27 or whatever.

Wtf ??? I don't like Verratti so if they treat like the piece of shit he is, I would truly enjoy it.

The thing is PSG owners have money to burn & they don't really care about paying more wage. So Verrati's agent just want that new contract every year to earn his cut. PSG earn that strong position in that they have full authority in keeping their players (contract length). In short PSG is the winner of this negotiation war.

Just free him up. There lucky they've had him for so long in that average league. Set a price and move on. It's time for him to show what he's really about week in week out.

I agree... thinking about a midfield 3 would be amazing.

That said the reality of his advisors and PSG ownership tell me to just move on. Think this will keep popping up over the summer with little actual movement.
