Looks to have found his feet now, great display today. He’s been thrown into it under Ruud which is the best way. Makes you wonder how long it would have taken him to get up to speed under ETH’s a few minutes here and there approach.

What a warrior. And he obviously has more to his game than just being a pure destroyer. Very encouraging.

Appears to be settling down.

He’s a bit like Fred without some of the mental passing episodes.
I was thinking the same thing. For all Fred's faults, we did miss him last season - especially his pressing ability. Would be nice to have that back without the 2-3 heart in mouth passes that seemed to come with Fred.

Every game has been an improvement. He was a monster, and very tidy on the ball.

This was the signing I was most excited about in the summer. Now he's started to settle in, and he's about to be reunited with the manager who got the best out of him, I can see him becoming a fan favourite.

Correct. Stats back up your memory too. While at United Hererra completed <60% of his long passes. For Fred it was 74%. Their stats are actually fairly similar across the board otherwise. Both decent players for us on their day and often at their best in big games, which is a good quality to have . But never quite as good or consistent as we needed them to be.

Hopefully Ugarte goes on to become a better player than either of them.
The way I see it, Hererra had a more consisistent and reliable level of performance, good Fred was much better but bad Fred was seriosuly poor and we saw that too often

starting to think hag didn't want him if he was playing Eriksen in midfield over this beast

Really starting to find his feet now and with a manager he knows coming in it could only be good for him

It was impossible for our midfielders to look good under EtH's senseless tactics.

Beast. MOTM for me. Midfield was so solid with him and Case so close together.
Imagine when we replace Case with a more mobile midfielder as well (personally think Mainoo will be better higher up the pitch). Not sure who would complement Ugarte in a 343 formation but someone like De Jong would take us to the next level.

Phenomenal performance. All this nonsense about him being poor on the ball. He is obviously not elite, but he is decent and quite press resistant too. Seems to be able to find solutions every time when pressed.

Well worth mentioning then that Casemiro won 7 in 79 mins before coming off.

It's very nice to finally see teams not being able to just casually stroll through the middle of the park against us.

If he had 8 and Casemiro had 7, means something is going wrong up top. They shouldnt have to make that many tackles and break records against Leicester.

Top performance- so nice to see a solid midfielder at the club again.

The moment in the 2nd half where I think he won the ball, strode away with it and then perfectly played the ball off was great

Very good today. If he can perform like this consistently and stay available I believe we have taken a big step toward fixing our midfield problems.

There will always be posters who will hate the likes of Fred or Herrera, also because they had an opinion of them from the beginning and despite the player proving everyone wrong, they would feel stupid to admit that. Ugarte will be in similar mould. He might get less hate though if Amorim proves to be good enough coach to make us work as a team which we lacked for the last 11 years.

I was buzzing off signing Herrera but he was ultimately “meh” and ended up far below what I hoped for.
Fred was better but ultimately not consistent enough and was too prone to throwing in an absolute nightmare.
Ugarte looks a very good player to me, one who’ll do his role well.

He did really well today. Looked very assured, kept possession well and great at winning the ball back. Hopefully a sign of things to come. Excited to see how he develops, especially with the new coach coming in.

Solid performance today, definitely improving with each game, ETH seemed to take too long to bed players in with 5 mins here and there. Players need regular minutes and games, especially to get used to the EPL.

starting to think hag didn't want him if he was playing Eriksen in midfield over this beast
Pretty sure it was well known - or at least reported by a few regarded journos - ten Hag wanted to retain McTominay and sign Amrabat over Ugarte. The club wanted Ugarte

Closest player we’ve had to Roy Keane since he retired. A Uruguayan warrior

Played really well. Happy for him to get some positive reviews under his belt and really nice to see on ball qualities. It is important to have a player like that, that is able to match intensity when the opponent is going this route. Unfortunately he is in a minority in our squad in that aspect.

I think he wanted a midfielder who gets forward and scores. He lost McTominay and Eriksen was mostly doing a good job with that

Casemiro and Ugarte is a different type of partnership and showed today what they will do in the middle instead

 Remember when Ten Hag said it would take him months to get up to speed?

Then he didn't play him at all because it turned out he wanted to keep McTomminay and Amrabat?
