Geebs absolutely nailed this at the time - I'm amazed at the hype bubble around Neuer and I think he's vastly overrated. He's capable of moments of real genius but he's also capable of making rickets a conference keeper would be ashamed of at times. Quite frankly, people claiming he's great because of his amazing passing stats or whatever are nutters.
He has similar problem as Joe Hart, his ego is too big, plus he thinks he can influence the game like he is some outfield player(it's not just Guardiola's style of play, Neuer always wanted to get involved in the game even while he was at Schalke for some reason), so he rarely stays on his line and makes idiot out of himself at times. As I said in other thread, I would want to see him dealing with setpieces in premiership.

Manuel Neuer is sometimes seen as the best goalkeeper in the world today. However, his composure, kicking and general decision making as evidenced in this match against Algeria demonstrate that he is susceptible to unpredictable movements from time to time. Something I would get palpitations over a keeper playing for my team.
The man is erratic sometimes. To be the very best you can't be that, and he's been so quite a few times over the past two years. Undeniably a monster of a shot stopper, his all-round game is not the best imo.

Must be very intimidating to be in a one on one situation and you see the huge size of Neuer blocking your way!! Been very good this match.. saving German defense..
Don't you think Schmeichel could be called erratic?
I hate his style of goalkeeping. In most of situations he pretends he is some kind of sweeper the ball would come to him anyway and he could collect it and keep the possession, but for some reason he comes up very high and kick it into dangerous area again. Shame there aren't any Stankovics around who could take advantage of that.
I have no idea why people are seeing Neuer's performance so far today as anything but fantastic. He's not in charge of how high his team's backline is, he's just sweeping everything up and keeping Slimani and others from getting breakaways.
I also don't like his style and I think he takes too much risk often enough, but you can't complain about him today, he is Germanys best defender
I rate him as the best goalkeeper in the world but he has been a bit of a liability tonight. He reminds me of Hart in that he comes for crosses/balls outside the box when there is absolutely no need to do so.
He's a calculated maniac. He obviously knows exactly what he's doing doing when he's charging out because it works out so often.

how many goals caused neuer during the last year? I dont remember a single one, while he intercepts long passes almost every match. Hart is just shit. Not even top15 at the moment.

This. People amaze me how they forget everytime they talk about Neuer. He most likely is instructed to do so and plays very well as a sweeper. He saves his team every game by this 'stupid runs'.
Difference is, when Hart does it, he then decides to just hang around in what ever position he's taken up instead of actually going back to his goal.
Time seemed to actually slow down when he did that against the Italians the other week. Was screaming at the TV.
Undoubtedly the best goalie in the world. The only modern goalie who possesses some of the raw attributes that Schmeichel had. Also, he is brilliant with the ball - better than DDG. He lacks a little flair; he only has one expression, but he is a truly brilliant goalie. He might even be considered on par with Schmeichel if he continues and improves at this level.
God help us. Let's just ignore everything he does wrong shall we?

Every goalie makes mistakes, especially the more aggressive ones like he, Buffon and Schmeichel. VDS is probably the only goalie whom you can argue hardly made mistakes. Goalies, like all footballers, make mistakes; their mistakes are just more plainly visible than say a midfielder's.
I think Neuer's mistakes are far outweighed by his other attributes; honestly, I haven't even seen him make that many mistakes. Admittedly, I don't watch the Bundesliga, so Champions League and the World Cup is pretty much my take on it.
What the? I agree that Neuer is a phenomenal goalkeeper, but don't say hes good with the ball. Because hes a nightmare with the ball. Just watch the Man United match lol
He's very good with the ball! He wasn't particularly good against United, but in every other match I've seen him, including the one airing currently, he's been brilliant with the ball. His passing is mostly sublime and he appears to have all the time in the world with it. His pass to Schürrle for instance was drool worthy, for instance. He lobs the ball over attackers onto the foot of his defenders; you don't do that if you are a nightmare with the ball.

It'd be a random game to criticise him on tonight considering it's working very well and he's kept the team in the game, if Joe Hart constantly did it and it came off I doubt many would criticise him for it, he doesn't do it (the 1 or 2 times he has it's cost them goals) and therefore people don't praise or criticise him.
It's not really "hipster" either, it's unorthodox, I hate this hipster nonsense if you dare praise anything that is a bit out the ordinary, if anything it seems it's more "hipster" to slag off people who praise it!!
Exactly and that's the difference between him and Hart. Hart just does stupid runs for the sake of it. Neuer knows what he is doing and is nearly everytime right.

Neuer is pretty much the perfect sweeper, but for a goalie to be a sweeper, you have to be pretty aggressive. Even the best defenders like Silva, Kompany mistime from time to time. Most of the time they have other defenders or the goalie to bail them out. When a goalie mis time, he has nobody to save his sorry arse. To me, it seems that Neuer saves a lot more points over the course of a season than he drops with his slightly unorthodox and aggressive style; I'm not sure Hart does - that's the great difference.
