Manchester United vs Real Madrid (Thu 27th July, 01:30 UK time)

There’s a lot of typical hyperbole on here.
My main observation on this is that we are playing the super high defence with Onana for the first time. That means so much of patterns we developed last year is closer to the oppo defence and that takes a little adjusting.

What is also clear as day is that this system isreliant on a target man striker who can play with back to goal. The faster we get Hojlund the better because Rashy is NOT that guy and will never be. Martial and Hojlund will be crucial for our season.

Eriksen will be shown the door next year. He lacks the energy and dynamism to battle oppo midfielders. He was terrible first half. Getting bullied by the Real’s incredible triumvirate.

Onana will give us SO MUCH control in most games next season. This Madrid team has the best most dynamic midfield in the world. We got bullied a bit but we didn’t exactly collapse. Look at the outlets they had in the wings and look at ours. All because Rashy can’t play LW due to the striker situation!
Most midfield’s we’ll face next year will not be able to compete like this and we will be better for it. Why? Because they will not be able to press the GK and turn over possession from a hoofed long ball.

There’s a lot of positives as far as I can see.

Agree with this mostly. My only real complaint is the Bruno RW experiment and Mainoo getting hurt. Other than that I’ve liked some of our stuff and ideas structurally.

The evidence being one preseason game where said new keeper is bossing it while we easily play out of presses and are also in the market for a striker.
,
Okay pal.
Which is why I said so far and it's not one game, discounting the Wrexham game it's the 4th game and in every one it was and is obvious what we're lacking, as good as our new keeper is he's not going to change our ability to score off the chances we create

Some people have a 1 track mind on how transfer dealings are done. They can be done in parallel, not in series, yeah?

We've been alright apart from a brief period in the first half where Madrid's press was too much for us. There's just no goals in us that's the problem.

for the life of me i still can't understand why the outside backs are so narrow

It’s no use trying to explain to the De Gea haters that in order to improve our attacking performance that we needed a striker more than we needed a keeper.

I'm just enjoying watching you seethe about Onana bossing it.

This game is almost making me wish we had Weghorst, that's how bad the centre forward play has been tonight.

4 out of every 5 Antony shots go over the bar. Can it really be that hard to keep the ball down?

If you dont score, you at least get the ball in the area and somene else can finish it.

Very frustrating.

Yeah well sometimes I'm up for it and sometimes I can't be arsed :D

Amazing that some can’t see the difference Onana has made this half. Doesn’t mean we don’t still need a striker, but it was a massive piece of the puzzle.

I like seeing Onana bait some press, pass it out, then reposition to be open. Don’t often see a goalie give-and-go like he was an outfield player.
