Manchester United vs Real Madrid (Thu 27th July, 01:30 UK time)

I’m trying to figure out if anyone has watched and/or understood the purpose of pre season games. I’m currently trying to explain thus to someone in the Mason Mount thread.

It’s about conditioning players, improving fitness and experimenting. This isn’t much more than a training session. We shouldn’t be judging anyone so severely.
You're fighting a losing battle, mate. Last summer, after the Liverpool match, the place was filled with folk thinking we were going to be title contenders. Because, in Football Manager world, Ten Hag would either transform the team into world beaters overnight or he would be completely shite. There's no middle ground. I'm already worried that if we get anything less than second place on goal difference to City these same folk will be demanding that all of the players are sacked and Old Trafford is nuked because "it's not good enough" and so forth.

Miserable, miserable, fecking cnuts everywhere, man... It's even bringing me down to their miserable level. Which is the fecking point; trying to make everyone feel as shite as they do... Anyway. Time for sleep. This has been my Ted Twat Talk.

Ok, so offside, now handball too? What other rules Madrid doesn't get against?

I hope ETH says something about a striker post game....it's ridiculous how obvious the gap is.

What Mctomimey just showed that we need legs in midfield but with better quality

Surely there's no way Madrid go into the season without another striker

Some assured us it would transform our attack, the more practical of us said we needed a striker more than a goalkeeper, and the evidence so far suggests we were right

It’s no use trying to explain to the De Gea haters that in order to improve our attacking performance that we needed a striker more than we needed a keeper.

I know we are likely going to go for Hojlund. But am I the only one that's seen multiple attacks from us in this game and thought...."Kane scores that"

I don't mean to knock AWB who I thought played quite well, but Dalot is noticeably more comfortable on the ball and links up with Antony very well.

Like the look of Sancho a lot. Looks quick, strong, composed. There is hope.

There’s a lot of typical hyperbole on here.
My main observation on this is that we are playing the super high defence with Onana for the first time. That means so much of patterns we developed last year is closer to the oppo defence and that takes a little adjusting.

What is also clear as day is that this system isreliant on a target man striker who can play with back to goal. The faster we get Hojlund the better because Rashy is NOT that guy and will never be. Martial and Hojlund will be crucial for our season.

Eriksen will be shown the door next year. He lacks the energy and dynamism to battle oppo midfielders. He was terrible first half. Getting bullied by the Real’s incredible triumvirate.

Onana will give us SO MUCH control in most games next season. This Madrid team has the best most dynamic midfield in the world. We got bullied a bit but we didn’t exactly collapse. Look at the outlets they had in the wings and look at ours. All because Rashy can’t play LW due to the striker situation!
Most midfield’s we’ll face next year will not be able to compete like this and we will be better for it. Why? Because they will not be able to press the GK and turn over possession from a hoofed long ball.

There’s a lot of positives as far as I can see.

Sancho already 10x the striker than rashford
Rashford had nothing to work with. He missed one chance due to a bad touch, but that had nothing to do with starting on the left or middle.

The issue in the first half was midfield control.

These fecking inside wingers who cut in and don't lift their heads up infuriate me. Antony. Pass the ball. You don't need to shoot every time.

I don't mean to knock AWB who I thought played quite well, but Dalot is noticeably more comfortable on the ball and links up with Antony very well.
Dalot just wasted a good attack. AWB always looks better with Antony playing ahead. He never looks as comfortable playing with Bruno.
