Manchester United upgrade contact with Pep Guardiola, sources say

If it's in Rooney contract he plays when fit, obviously he's not going to be slated. A better manager? Who like Mourinho?
Jeez some of you guys & keeping with the how terrible the manager has been line. It's more boring than our current brand of football.
Is there anything to that?

Pep will take a gap year IMO, and then evaluate his best options. That way if Arsenal / City / United come available he will pick and choose between.
In some ways, that would be the ideal scenario for us, allowing for a similar transition to what Bayern went through (Heynckes passing the baton to Pep.)

Is there anything to that?
Much speculation & it wouldn't surprise me, but very few will actually know what is/isn't in his contract.

I've no idea how he gets picked every game & manages not to get substituted. As Van Gaal is pretty ruthless when it comes to clearing out players who can't perform.

City is a club with no history  its only in England and this forum you find some respect for them. Big managers and great players rarely go to City.

Quite something for an institution of 135 years to have no history !

Maybe Pep is joining City because he knows his history a little better.

Oh ffs are you using years as an excuse. Yes, Man City is a old club like the rest of them clubs in England. They have been shit, and has a more shit history than United, who has a really interesting history with great success.

For a Man City fan, of course they have a history and maybe a cool one to. But Man Utd got a well known history for people around the world. Its also a history with more football success.

He will go to City and we will have messed up yet again. Our board couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery. Actually I take that back, that's probably the one thing they could organise.

City have a vision of what they want to achieve and how to go about achieving it. Woodward's only vision is to make money and boast about it.

Such as? They are laying in 3rd place in a league that thats the weakest top 4 it has had in a loooong time. If their vision is to underachieve then they're doing a great job at it.
City were a Gerrard slip / Jose masterclass away from having won 1 title in 4 years, Even that title shouldn't have been theirs since QPR downed tools when they found out they were safe. For a club who has this clear vision they sure are Forest Gumping their way towards it.

Developing a football club is about more than simply what happens on the pitch.

City are so far behind off the pitch that any sort of rate of development stands out since there is simply more to do.
That doesn't mean their vision or aptitude is at a higher level, far from it.

Man are you in for a shock!

You clearly have no idea but I guess it's easier that way.

Are you saying there isn't more to do at City to reach the elite level? Just where do you think City have been in the world pecking order over the last few years?
If you even reach United's status then your strategy will have been an unqualified success ffs, never mind overtake us.

city are doing okay but wow some of our fans couldn't wait to drop on their knees and start sucking.

You would honestly think they're running away with the league like chelsea were. People tell me they have injuries and they'll shoot off eventually but I've been waiting for that since October.

We are talking at cross purposes. 'Off the pitch' to me means the infrastructure, the fabric of the club. For me City are already streets ahead of United in these areas. United became too dependent on one man and now he is gone there is a massive void.
I agree becoming as big a name worldwide will take longer. I have no idea how long but make no mistake the people behind City are deadly serious and have the talent and resources to achieve their goals.

Back on topic I believe Pep has always been coming to City and United fans slating Woodward are wide of the mark (in this instance)

No offence but this is ridiculous, I don't really want to go down this route but in what way? You are underachieving if anything. This is just exaggerated noise.

And still fumbling on how to make the transition.

My biggest worry on hiring him is that he seems he gets bored easily and likes to move about a lot.

He had no real reason to leave Barcelona, it was a very strange one. He could have dominated there for a good 20 years and became the most successful manager ever.

Knowing he could still be there managing Messi Suarez and Neymar but would rather go to City would suggest to me that he is either very poorly advised, not very bright or more money orientated than his personna would suggest

I still have a question mark there.

I always though @Polite Poster was a Bayern fan for some reason. Was wondering what inside info he had to be so sure that pep was joining city. It's only now that I checked and found out he's a city fan. Explains everything.

Before anyone asks, I browse from my phone and it doesn't show the club supported unless you visit the profile and check.

I think Pep left Barca because he'd won it all, literally. Maybe if they'd had a few dodgy years he might have kept at it for longer. I can understand why he left for a new challenge, not that in my eyes Bayern can really be described as a challenge.

But trying to sort our mess up? That's a challenge alright.

Guardiola to City isn't the certainty some would have you believe. Still a fair chance it'll happen. If he was that desperate to work who Txiki Begiristain and Ferran Sorriano again, he would have replaced Roberto Mancini.

Ofcourse it's not a certainty by any means. Polite poster's post came across as someone with actual knowledge of things going on in Bayern to me as I always thought he was a Bayern fan.

Why are City fans so arrogant? You don't deserve a manager like Guardiola; the fact you take him for granted shows just how entitled you've become under the current ownership.

This club has played under Busby and Fergie, and has had players like Bobby Charlton, Best and Law. Do you really think we care about the opinion of a City fan in relation to our current situation? Our struggles are temporary, my friend, even if they were to last another five years while you enjoyed 3-4 under Pep.

"City streets ahead of United in terms of infrastructure and fabric of the club"
:(

We can offer one thing that city and chelsea dont have and that is complete control over footballing matters.

This can play a big part in getting pep and a big part in why jose wanted to manage us.

Those teams will be prepared to give him that just to get him. Especially City.
The only reason I can see him closing us is if he really wants to manage Manchester United.
Even considering the stature of our club, I will admit that City have more going for them in this pursuit.

He would NEVER choose a club like United when he could manage the giants that are Manchester City.

They have 540m fans in China, a few billions barrel of oils in UAE and a few hundreds of thousands of slaves there.

They are way ahead of us, Barca, Bayern and Madrid combined.

Can you explain to me how? They have yet to dominate the league in any capacity and have failed miserably in Europe..
The way people talk its as if they ignore the fact they completely failed last season and are lucky to have only lost 4 games before fecking Christmas this year.
The way people bow down to this nonsense baffles me

 I'm surprised that it still baffles you. We could be Barcelona and some fans would still find something to moan about. The way they talk about us you'd think we were fecking Nott Forest. That being said, I don't think Pep will choose us for reasons, none of which include City being bigger than us, or more successful or whatever other shite has been spouted as of late.

Think he'll choose City for his mates, Tzxiiaso, I think his name is, among others.

They have the better team which requires less work and their sporting director already has a good working relationship with him. Why else would City be favourites for him?

Pep is going to City and Ancelotti will succeed him at Bayern according to ZDF.
