Man Utd set to appoint Director of Football (when hell freezes over)

Those quotes were immediately after we bough sanchez. Since then Martial wanted to leave and it could've changed his plans for RW. Jose never plays attacking football but his teams are very good at holding and countering at blistering pace. That's exactly why he has asked for those players.

Jose has been given pretty much all players he wants at the club. I'm really not seeing where the Woodward blame comes from.

Jose wanted 4 players in the first season. He got all 4. He wanted 4 players in the second season and he got 3. He did not get Perisic something which we rectified 4 months later by getting a much better player in the same position. And now to this season where we've only failed to sign a CB. So as I see it there's only one real black mark and clubs rarely get all their transfers done. Jose has been backed and backed quite strongly in the market.

Woodward may have other flaws that need looking into but he has backed Jose.

Well then Jose has brought in results when ever he's backed. First season got us into CL and won European competition and league cup. Second season finished second beating all the teams in the league including record breaking city side. We needed a CM, LB , CB and RW and we got only one of those targets this summer. How is Jose suppose to deliver results when other teams have actually strengthened their weak areas and we haven't?

If you think Woodward is doing a good job in the footballing side then i don't know what to say to you.

Woodward has given mourinho pretty much all he’s ever asked for and wanted, bar a CB this summer, but given that he got him 2 cb’s last year I really don’t see how Woodward can get any blame. Mourinho needs to manage and coach the squad to perform. He needs to get the squad to play more entertaining football. We made next to no chances in the second half on Sunday and we where chasing the game for 45mins

He said he wanted 2 players but expected to get 1, didn't even get any.

He was backed well only in his first summer imo, which is probably Ed's best summer as well, got him 4/4. The rest, nah not really.

Let's not forget his ridiculously overpaying for average players during LVG era as well, which make our spending money numbers go sky high despite not getting any proper or good players at this time bar Di Maria.

Only in the first? You don't consider the additions of Lukaku, Matic, Sanchez and Lindelof like backing him?

First season he got all his targets, 4/4 as he himself said in his very first presser here that he wanted 4.

Next season got 3/4. Last one 2/5.

As Neville said you can't build a three quarters of house then stop midway.

I don’t think Woodward wants to
Pay top dollar for any one, we have always had to over pay for everyone cos it’s Man Utd. Any one who thinks Woodward purposely pays over the odds I think is being unrealistic. As for the centre back issue this summer- I’d have loved us to get another one or two as much as any one. But from a management sense you can understand why it didn’t happen- clubs unwilling to sell and what would that have them done to the last 2 we got? Pretty much written off their values to zero and more dead wood on the playing staff. We can’t sell anyone cos we pay top dollar for everyone cos we try to back the managers

In that case no manager is backed then, I don't think you understand what it means, the club tried to sign Perisic but there is a limit that they can't reasonably cross and in general wishing a player doesn't mean that you are going to have him, his club might not be willing to sell and the player not willing to push for the move.

Met the former General Secretary of the Premier League today (a bit randomly, as we're both currently holidaying in the same location) - he knows everyone at the club and his view is that Woodward is an excellent businessman but shouldn't be in charge of football operations. Also according to him, some people who have been with United for decades have openly voiced their concerns about how United "no longer have an identity". Just some interesting food for thought.

Still waiting for someone to explain to me the logic of giving the manager a contract extension then publicly refusing to back him in the next transfer window.

Apparently someone who sets up noodle sponsorships is more qualified to judge the worth of transfer targets than a vastly experienced manager.

Feck me, I miss David Gill. He is our Gazidis. He is the constant in the post Fergie years. Lord knows when we'll be getting a proper football man in.

Wonder if this is true and who the “group” are, plane banners are quite classless. Even worse when it seems to be pointed at the wrong person and also a bit over dramatic after 1 game. This team is surely going to play better in a few weeks.

It makes no sense and I still don't know why we extended him, if I'm not mistaken the PSG rumours were floating around but from France they haven't been interested in him since 2012 and today think that his style isn't good for their image.

That someone has access to the same group of scout, for all we know they might be the source of his knowledge, if I can call it that way.

I for one, welcome The Plane Banner.

I just wanna be entertained by something, not because I agree with the sentiment or think it's the right thing to do. Like the old adage says, if you dont laugh you'll cry. I'd rather laugh along with my non-United mates on the plane matter than frustrate myself trying to defend it or defend the club that's clearly on a slippery slope to nowhere.

Maybe they thought we could get a better transfer fee for him?

Maybe he was kicking up a fuss internally and it was the easiest way to keep him happy. Is he the highest paid manager in the world? Personally I think he will be gone next year and United have someone lined up hence the lack of backing his choices over the summer.

Ed fecked up this Perisic deal and it was completely on him. He could have signed him for good um of money but tried to twist Inter hands using their FFP plans.

Not signing a player that may have been essential for the manager's plan and will leave us struggling in this position is on the board. You can miss on luxury players and no on will care but not essential ones.

And if Ed didn't like Mourinho choice of players in this summer he should have sacked him by the end of the season instead of refusing to sign these players and leaving the team in nutshells.

Whatever the perspective you take on this aspect, Ed will be the one to blame at the end, either not signing the players essential for the manager or leaving this manager in job, giving him contract extension then refusing to back him the very next summer.

Maybe they thought we could get a better transfer fee for him?

Maybe, if I'm not mistaken when they compile the reports they put players in tiers and I imagine that these tiers are bracketed in terms of fees, if a player exceeds the superior boundaries then you start back tracking and maybe Leicester weren't willing to seriously negotiate and quoted a stupid fee.

Really? First time I hear about it.

Well thinking about it, Lindelof looks very far away from your typical Mourinho defender. Since when Mourinho plays with a weak and physically limited defender that can't head the ball and whose only good skill is passing the ball ? Something is fishy about this. Won't be a surprise if he was in bottom of our list as a defender in this year.

"It's understood that the message will be 'Ed Out – LUHG' (Love United, Hate Glazers) in a protest at Woodward and the club's American owners who appointed him. The banner is set to appear over Turf Moor before United play at Burnley on September 2."

It's funny that you say that because I wasn't sold on Lindelof while an awful lot of posters were seemingly rating him. Now we pretend that he is terrible in every aspects.

He was slaughtered during last season almost every match.

And I'm not disputing his quality. Maybe he'll look good in other system that suits him. My point is he's sure as hell doesn't look like your Mourinho usual defender. Is he ?

Let get a banner for the manner who actually delivers in his end of year targets lol. Makes sense.

Reading here, you'd have to say that Woodward has the most loyal and passionate fans in the whole club. Who knew that accountants had groupies?

What a waste of time and money. A complete embarrassment. As if he's going anywhere:rolleyes: What do they want? For him to give in to Jose's tantrums?

Much better flying a banner asking Jose to earn his money and coach the players properly. No matter Ed's faults, this is our main issue.

Even if Mourinho is the one you fault, Ed is the one who hired him and gave him a contract extension last season, no ?

Ed will be on the blame side whatever perspective you can look at.

I don't mind that banner to be honest. It's more dignified than the whole Pogba FC brigade. I'm just going to have the popcorn ready for Ed's next briefing to the media. Wonder how he'll react.

I'm talking about before his signing, I have no idea why we bought him and even less why we thought that 30m were acceptable. As for your question, Mourinho has signed a lot of different players and I can't really tell you what a Mourinho player is, I don't think that he is weaker than a young Varane who admittedly was very smart for his age which allowed him to catch up physically in his early 20s.

Honestly, I'm a little bit shocked that we are now trying to put the questionable signings on someone else than Mourinho while he obviously keep the good ones.
