Man Utd set to appoint Director of Football (when hell freezes over)

I don't remember the whole piece entirely but to summarise he's basically reiterating what some have said here and what Carragher said.

Why back Jose midway through his contract with an extension knowing that he requires players but not get them for him. Mentioned about the commercial success but that we need more focus on the footballing success.

Good man.

Good man.

I think at the end of the day we all know what's inevitable. Jose will be the one who gets the boot whether it be in the next few months or end of season and Woodward will continue working for the club.

:wenger:

What's Txiki meant to do then? He surely doesn't work for Pep.
I'm pretty sure he does. If Pep tells him to buy or sell a player, would Txiki refuse? As far as I know, they're good friends who have great relationship.

Ed has to remain bringing the money in.

Ed should not be allowed to decide how to spend it.

All these people criticising Jose's spending on players? How exactly do you know he was the one finalising who arrived anyway?

If he does give a list of 5 players per position how does anyone know Ed hasn't just brought in some of the 5th choices?

Of course. But I want to see a persistent criticism of Woodward in the mainstream media where he's called out on his ineptitude.

Well from first to fifth they are supposedly all the manager choices and it's very likely that some are 5th choices, for example I wouldn't be surprised if Umtiti and Varane were close to the top of the list but you can imagine that signing them is near impossible.

He is irrelevant regarding this. Pep gets every player that he wants. How people are so blind, i can't believe it.
Pep bought bravo. He wasnt good to him. He got ederson. Pep said that he wants full backs. He got best english full back. From fecking spurs. Who is crazy enough to buy from lewy? But they overpayed because pep wanted him. He got one of the best left backs. And he got for 30mil backup in danilo. Despite that he had sagna, kolarov, clichy.
Pep wanted nolito. He wasn't good. Then he bought sane. He wanted backup in attacking positions. He got b.silva. This year he wanted mahrez as some backup. He got him. Pep bought stones for 50 mil, had otamendi of 50 mil, mangala of 40 mil and kompany. But he wanted another defender. Boom, is laporte good for you? Release clause 70 mil? No problem. So he got all players who he wanted. And not any players, he got exactly players that he wanted and most of them were hot stuff at that moment. Silva, mendy, mahrez, walker, laporte.

Now how board backs jose. First 2 years he was for compromise. I will play with average players on some positions, old ex wingers on full backs, average defenders, midfielders on wingers but give me 4 players. He got that players and won 2 trophies. Next year was so-so window but he finished second. So this summer he wanted to finish this squad. Give me toby, sandro and willian or perisic. He got shit.

Peps city in first season when he didn't have all his players, was shit. They won nothing and finished barely 4th. Then he bought players from A list and they look great.

Bottom line. Pep inherited better players but shipped out the dross in ruthless fashion got players in who fit his profile and most importantly put his stamp on everything.
Took him a year to sort it out.
We are regressing in our third year.......
We still haven’t sold Darmian ffs. How long do you think he would have lasted under pep?

We were trying to chop Darmian and Rojo the whole summer. The problem is we used to give massive wages to crap players and they refuse a pay cut when leaving, thus stuck with them, as no one will pay that much + a high salary for these hopeless players.

Ed is a complete mess when it comes to football.

What annoys me still to this day is this line ‘we can do things here that other clubs could dream of’.

Then feckin deliver then. Get Mbappe, get Neymar. Or get feckin Tony Alderweireld and back the manager. Do what you feckin promised.

Like Alexis and Fred? Jorginho?
He got mahrez for 60 mil instead of alexis. Plus few days after we signed alexis he cried about it and got present in laporte. Despite having 4 defenders already.
Yes he didn't get midfielder who will be, by his words, backup for fernandinho(fecking backup!). But i am sure that he will get it in winter transfer window. And not any player, they will buy him some beast for their magic number of 60 mil.

Txiki hired Pep. They obviously have a good relationship, but the hierarchy is clear.
The only reason Txiki was even brought by the sheikh is to entice Guardiola to go there. Txiki holds zero power in regards to transfers or whatever Guardiola wants.

They, being Txiki Begiristain, the technical director who has transfer oversight. You've proven my argument.

Watch the Amazon Prime show City have put out. In the first episode, there's a bit where Ferran Soriano and Txiki are sat around discussing their transfer policy in relation to Benjamin Mendy's injury with Pep nowhere to be seen.

Is it that important for this story if he is the one who goes to the shop and buys player who guardiola ordered. With sheikh's money.

Oh yes, because a propaganda piece shows what's going around there. So naive.

Yeah, Woodys made himself look a bit of a prick with that kind of statement.

Totally agree. Good summary.

I'm not even fussed if Jose goes. But don't let him be a scapegoat for the last 5 years of mismanagement from the board after Fergie, which followed the 10 years of under spending with Fergie.

We should have strengthened by investing every year we were on top. Instead we got ground down to a bare bones average squad with a few ageing players with quality.

But wasn't that said before the PSG money and transfers going mental in general? We still spent a shitload. Competing against bottomless cash clubs is probably not what he expected nearly a decade ago.

Exclude City and PSG money and he's probably still right.

That's actually exactly what it does. You can't dismiss it just because it doesn't fit whatever narrative you've created in your head.
:lol::wenger::lol:

I guess North Korea is the best country in the world to live in. I'm packing my bags right now. Thanks man!

5 years not a decade. Both teams got their money before he said that statement.

Statements like that mean we’re blowing every single team out the water. That we’re acting like a PSG. Instead we’ve been outspent by Everton and West Ham.

Right, compare a documentary about a football team to an autocratic country guilty of genocide and gross human rights violations. You're a complete feckwit if you think that's an appropriate comparison.

Hey, that's no way to talk about the USA.

Ironic, considering who the owners of City are, don't you think?

The documentary was filmed in Manchester about a football club operating in Britain, not Abu Dhabi, so no, I don't think it's ironic that you're absolutely wrong about the structure of a football club that's plain to see.

Oh my god, you're more naive than I thought. And who sponsored the documentary and with what purpose, huh? I guess they did that documentary without the permission of Mansour and his cronies. Jesus Christ man, get a grip. City were brought as a propaganda tool and the "documentary" was made with the precise reason of making them sympathetic and vulnerable, to enhance their image and that of their owners. If you believe in anything they say, then as the great Andy Tate once said, "you're the biggest fool in Manchester"

I’m sorry but I think that is bs.
Who out of anyone here wouldn’t snap someone’s arm off for £15m for Darmian?
He could have gone way before now and if he doesn’t that is on mourinho.
Ed is not the problem here it’s Jose

I pointed out an easily accessible example of something that is verifiable. It has nothing to do with buying into propaganda, although I know you taking the argument off track is your only hope.

Txiki's been the director of football at City for 6 years, Pep's been there 2. Your suggestion is seemingly that they hired him, asked him to twiddle his thumbs until he could hire Pep and then after that, go back to doing feck all. Would Pep have come without the team he walked into? Absolutely not. And who do you think spent years building that team?

Who else can pay someone £500k per week? nobody outside of Barca, PSG and Madrid. Not even city goes that high.
Jose has had plenty of fecking backing he’s just fecked it up

Managers lists the price of players now ?! That's new information for me. What else ?

Manager puts player on transfer list and it's up for CEO or DOF to negotiate his price with the negotiating clubs.

What's Ed role in the football process exactly if the price of players aren't his job ? Agree/disagree to sell and that's it ?
