Maguire | NOT McGuire or MacGuire

No im just not a muppet who wants us to sign all the star names like they do on football manager. Maguire would genuinely improve us, significantly I believe to.

Let me guess you wanted Griezmann, Ronaldo and Bale?

3 Galactico class players.
Yes please!!!

I'm sure they're all falling over each other desperate to sign a contract with us.

Godin may be not, but bonucci would I'm sure. He's in a poor Milan team and his last chances of playing UCL football may be with someone like us. He has experience and reads the game well . And won't cost 65million!!

Would be really happy with this signing. I like his confidence on the ball, defensively he's obviously very good and he seems a genuine threat from set plays. He's better than anything we have at the moment.

Yeah, seems like a good solid signing. Hopefully after spending a god damn fortune on CBs Jose finally has his partner for Smalling. That’s if we do complete the deal of course.

He's negotiating with Juventus already, I'm sure it's no contest when it comes to playing for us or Juventus at the moment.

Would be another bang average centre half to add to our collection.

Maguire is a good stopper, but he has a playing style that suits a packed relegation team more than a supposed top team. Sure he has some patience on the ball and can actually pass it to a team-mate, but he is first and foremost and good warrior and header of the ball. Fearless when the ball is in the ball, wins lots of headers every game, great asset for a bottom team being bombarded for 90 minutes.

Top teams need smart defenders, like Rio who knows where the ball is going to go before the pass is made. Calm, in control, great tackling when needed. Maguire is slow and reactionary, has never played for a top backline and will struggle at United in my opinion. In the WC he looked like any other player when facing a top team and England let in goals.

I like him, he is a tough bastard, but he will not make us particularly better and be the kind of player that charges us towards the gold. Not even close, and feck that figure quoted for him.

There's no Rios around anymore. The closest to a one man defender is skriniar and maybe Koulibaly. The former is not for sale while Napoli has just turned down a 92m bid for the latter.

Forget about Bonucci. His son is very sick and he won't leave the area

I really like seeing as buying British players honestly, not pity purchases, but ones that deserve to be bought. I personally think Maguire is more than worthy.

If we’re going to spend van Dijk money on a CB I’d rather we went after someone with a higher ceiling like de Ligt or Skriniar.

If we’re set on Maguire we should wait a year to see if he maintains his performance levels, post World Cup - spend the money on a LB instead.

That would be the dream. Don't expect us to be so forward thinking in our transfer strategy.

Can’t believe we didn’t enquire when we sold them Blind.

About £45m taking into account his age, nationality, world cup performance and contract. But this is a market where Richarlison and Sigurdsson are going for £50m so who knows.

Without forgeting that VVD went for 75M when he's 2 years older than him and isn't english ... both showed the same potential in their previous season with their original club.

i think the fee will be closed to 75M than to 45M.

Meh we'll see how good he is I guess. Not too thrilled on him, and if we wanted to go big on a CB, why not Van Dijk when Liverpool and City were chasing him? 75m compared to the rumored 65m now, not a huge difference, but Van Dijk was an obviously very good center back. There's plenty of centerbacks I would sooner get, but maybe I just haven't seen enough of Maguire. One thing it definitely does is make the 30m signing of Lindelof pretty pointless last year.

At this point, we need signings and I'm okay with whatever. If this means we sign Maguire and sell some of the deadweight in defence like Rojo, Darmian and possibly Jones, then I'm fine with it.

Oh dear. Obviously Leicester are not going to consider selling for less than 50m and there are other deals they can point to for good reasoning behind that. Maguire's standing is about the same as VVD's before his move, regardless of your personal rating of the two players. 40m is not 'about right' because the market, any market, does not work according to your logic.

Also you made a weird comment about paying in blow jobs so I assumed you meant the post for noodlehair.

How is it the same? VDV was considered the best CB in the league over an entire league season.

Maguire certainly not. A couple of decent matches over just a few weeks doesnt make him suddenly as good as any CB in the league. Else I guess we could just do a straight swap with Lindelof or sell him for £70 million to pay for Maguire.

We wouldnt get that for him and neither should Leicester expect to get £60 million for Maguire

Leicester has pretty good (for a club of Leicester quality) center backs. Maguire, Morgan and Dragovic, also they bought Jonny Evans a couple of weeks ago. So they won't be that much weakened if they sell Maguire.

If Leicester don't sell for £65m then we should immediately cease all interest in him and instead go all in for Bonucci or Alderweireld. If those aren't gointg to happen either, we should have a look at someone like Boateng or Marquinhos.

This just doesn't add up, why go so public, why try to sign such a difficult target so late on, and why suddenly is he such a strong candidate for us, just odd, so we're surely just trying to smoke out Toby with all this.

I’m not sure, I was sort of thinking the opposite and we’ve probably agreed a fee with Leicester.

We’re presumably not responsible for the fee being quoted. If we have to go back to Levy after our public interest in Maguire, however, he’s possibly going to laugh and ask for £80m rather than crumble and sell Toby on the cheap.

Skysport's Maguire headline keeps cracking up - "Man Utd make move on Harry Maguire"... like it's a boy trying to chat up a girl in a night club.

This move would give us five center backs. Could see Lindelof or Bailly moving to right back if the move goes through and we play with 4 at the back. The move also makes it easier for us to play with three at the back on a regular basis.

Lindelof and Bailly aren't right backs.

I have a better idea...why not sell one or two of our shit CB's and buy an actual full back?

we don't have Dragovic he was only on loan and Wes Morgan is over the hill, we would be considerably weakened without Maguire

if needed, I think a back-three of Maguire-Bailly-Lindelöf would work well. Decent combination of size and skill ... would certainly give us another option.

understandable that Leicester are reluctant, even at the prices quoted. Can't really seem them keep that stance for another two weeks, but who knows.

did you miss the whole Mahrez saga?

no, but Citys approach came so late that rejecting any offer was absolutely understandable. They came in, what, one day ahead of the deadline? Madness.

With Maguire, there'd be two weeks left to bring in a replacement ... and it's an awful lot of money to turn down, to be honest. Maguire doesn't really strike me as the type who'd put on pressure to force a deal though, but you never know.

The question need answering here is, who chose Lindelöf instead of Maguire for double the money just twelve months ago? Fecking pathetic decision, in most other working environments your employer will want your resignation for a decision like that.

If Woody had any football intellect he would send Jones and rojos the other way.

Yeah good luck with this bullshit, if we signed a defender from a relegated Hull who conceded 80 goals people would call us unambitious shambles and the call would've been questionable to say the least at that time.

I'm not going to say Maguire wouldn't improve our defence, but buying him for £65m would sum up how shambolic our scouting and recruitment is. We could have bought him for peanuts only a year ago. It's not an isolated case either. It happens every single season. Clubs with really good scouting networks snap up highly rated talents, and then a year or two later we inevitably want them, and then we're forced to pay 5x more.

We spend so much money but we don't invest it wisely at all. We either overpay or we buy the wrong players. It's a running theme for the last God knows how many years
You mean like how Liverpool could've bought Alisson for under £8m in 16/17? Or 2 seasons before City could've bought Ederson for under half a mil? Chelsea could've bought Rudiger for 8m the year before? They must all be a mess too...

Sounds like they are rejecting 65m so...

you're assuming we would want them
you don't think Jones could do a job for you? For some reason, I think Evans-Jones could be a really good pairing. Just have to stay fit, but for some reason they all seem to do after they leave United lol

yeah I think going to Leicester was absolutely the right decision. He was good at Hull, but the step up to a top 4 club would have come too early and the pressure would have been big.
