Dutch newspaper that was on point with Blind's transfer said we were stubborn with the price on Blind because we wanted to gather money for Maguire. Don't think there's been anything new since. This is the transfer I am most excited about, but has there been any real link?

When was the last time we sidned a player based on world cup performances
Blind & RojoWhen was the last time we sidned a player based on world cup performances
I like Maguire too. But I question if he is better on the ball than any of our CBs other than Smalling? Lindelöf, Jones, Rojo and Bailly are all quite good on the ball actually.
They dont pass the ball between the lines because they are not allowed to. Same would apply to Maguire if we got him. Play the ball to "first station" (The DMs picking it up) or the FBs. Or as a third option go long to Lukaku over the lines. All three alternatives comes with a minimum risk of a transition against us. Thats the options a CB has under Mourinho. It wont change because of whichever players we buy for CB. Mourinho played like that even in Real Madrid.
I can see Mourinho going for Maguire for a different reason though maybe: his strength in the air. I believe that Mourinho is anything but happy with how we handled crosses and corners against and our offensive output in the same areas. With the size of our team and the organization that usually comes with Mourinho it should have been way better than it was this year. I might be a cynic but I would bet my money on that these are the type of issues that Mourinho will try to tweak this year. Smalling and Maguire together might settle this in Mourinhos mind.
Playing between the lines and attacking fullbacks I think will have to wait until Mourinhos time here is over.

not sure how you've worked that out given he's only played in his correct position about twiceWe would concede so many headers and lose so many flick-ons with that pairing! Neither are good at heading. Lindelof is positively shy off it!
By Using my eyes and looking at the crosses he doesn’t attacknot sure how you've worked that out given he's only played in his correct position about twice

No im just not a muppet who wants us to sign all the star names like they do on football manager. Maguire would genuinely improve us, significantly I believe to.Jesus, you’re easily excited.
I didn't expect this much of a response. Have to say I'd just go with Baily and Lindelof and let them bond. Not convinced by Maguire. That said, the day we bought Steve Bruce, I wondered if he was good enough! Domagoj Vida, anyone? ha ha

Let me guess you wanted Griezmann, Ronaldo and Bale?
As long as he's not on the trainer's table for half a season, he'll be an upgrade over Jones and Bailly.
What’s his correct position? I though he was a CB.not sure how you've worked that out given he's only played in his correct position about twice
My friends in Holland are laughing at me. We sell a cultured footballer to Ajax for peanuts then try to buy a carthorse for nearly 4 times as much. Is Maguire so much quicker than Daley. Can he hit a pass out of defense as good as Daley. Does he have Daley’s football brain. Maguire scored a couple of headers in the WC. Does that make him world class. Nearly all of England’s goals in the WC came from set pieces so no surprises that defenders score goals. If we need a new central defender go for Class or give Bailly and Axel a chance
Have you watched him play? He's literally known for being comfortable at playing the ball. I wouldn't take much notice of your Dutch friends. My friends in Holland are laughing at me. I loved Blind and wish we had kept him, but Maguire offers what Blind does at CB with the added bonus of being an aerial threat. I think the Smalling and Blind partnership in 15/16 was probably our best CB combo since Rio and Vidic, and Maguire is like the best of both rolled into one.My friends in Holland are laughing at me. he actually can.Can he hit a pass out of defense as good as Daley.
he actually can.
People look at Maguire and see all the prejudices they have about English centerbacks. But he actually has great passing ability and vision.
He’d already be a Manchester United player if SAF was still manager.
don't think you would have got him last summer, he turned down Spurs last year and picked us as he knew he'd playI think SAF would have gambled on him from Hull. The sort of bargain SAF loved during his latter days at the club when he / the board wasn't so keen on big spending, and a very Sir Alex type signing too - big, bold, talented, young and British. I think he'd be a quality signing for around £30-35m last summer but at £60m this summer.....I dunno….
Might be worth reminding your dutch friends how great they are doing in the international game.
Anyway I'm not convinced we are in for Maguire anyway.
yes but on the left of the two...What’s his correct position? I though he was a CB.
I see some pace and an ability to tackle! But his confidence is so low due to be used wrongly (at full back on on the right of the CB pair). I feel he's one of those guys that needs to be lovedWhat do you see in Lindelöf?
The only times we can really risk him are the cup games v crap teams, when playing a 3 with 2 dominant headers, or in a home game v a team who will have miniscule threat.
You can't line up with a player who is terrible in the air in the Premier league regularly.
