Maguire | NOT McGuire or MacGuire

Ramos, Bonucci, Hummels, Chiellini. Top defenders don’t recall them being quick.
Ramos and bonucci are quick. Chiellini was quick in his prime. Hummels is not quick but he is ball playing defender who is one of the best in positioning. He is clever defender who knows how to compensate his lack of pace.

Has there been any credible links ? Alls i can see is random bumps on why we should or shouldn't sign him.

Prefer Alderweireld but we might see a left footer as a priority. We have only one in Rojo and he's shit.

All those players are losing a foot race to Lukaku. They are not quick. I didn’t say they was slow to be advised as to why being slow work for them ala Hummels. I’m just stating they are top defenders and are not quick.

Has he really developed that much in a year that would convince Mourinho to change his mind on him (given that we weren't interested at £16m last summer)? Surely there would have been rumours at the end of the season if so.

I highly doubt there's anything in this (it's only the Daily Mail). If we're basing significant transfer decisions on performances against Panama, Tunisia and Sweden then we're in trouble. What's the point in our scouts?

The price is pretty disgusting for his actual level of ability lets be fair.

We could easily sign any number of other centrebacks for that price, basically any other centreback we've been linked to around Europe apart from Varane, and at least some of them would no doubt turn out better than Maguire.

All I would say is it's better spent on Maguire than Alderweireld, but that's not saying much at all.

Oh come on everyone knows we're not pay £70 million for this guy, I like him, but it'll be nothing like this if we do go for it.

Maguire is great, so underrated on here !! His ''lack'' of pace is overestimated when you consider ppl wanting Alderwield which is even slower!

Agree. What he defo has over our other defenders (and many players) is that he is a leader and i can see him stepping up.

Yeah, it's only Daily Mail reporting this. Not impossible but it'll be unprecedented if they get their information right ahead of other sources.

Must be odd for the papers as we're been linked to no one really atm, this is likely someone just sticking a fork in it and hoping for the best, but we could do worse, just not at that price.

Not so quick, not so good technique, not good on ball, little raw, solid in tackles and air. Classic united defender in last 5 years.
Is he even better than jones or smalling or lindelof? We must aim higher, much higher than maguire
Have you actually seen him play? I can’t take for serious if someone saw this guy play and still says Maguire is not good on the ball.

Absolute codswallowp this from the daily mail. I mean for that money we could but toby aderwiereld who is a better defender imo and still have some money left over for another signing.

We're not reportedly willing to pay £53m for Sandro, but we're readying a £65m bid for Maguire?

Yes i did. Many times and he is hardly some ball playing defender who we desperately need.

I call bollocks. The squad is already 2 CBs too heavy and Darmian hasn't even left yet. There's practically no space for defenders atm, only a fullback and that's after Darmian leaves.

Can you see anybody paying £50m for Smalling or Jones???? I think not. Yet everybody is quick to say that Smalling's our best CB? If it means one of them going, I'm all for it!

As if we'd sell Mike Smalling to anyone for only £50m. Behave

If Maguire was called Maguiré or Maguirinho the Caf would be all for this.
100%. I bet half of them have barely watched much of Leicester. It’s the caf’s weird perceptions of transfers that override so much opinion. Because he’s a big lad from Sheffield he must be a big shite lump. I’d love us to get a player who’s such a warrior and leader like Steve Bruce.

I'd like to sign Maguire.

Hes brilliant on a bigger stage and I think he'd thrive at a top club.

Outside of Pogba, Lukaku and De Gea, could you see anyone paying £50m for any of our lads?
Even Rashford, Martial and Lingard, the sort of younger players we'd be charged that for if they were elsewhere, I doubt it.

I get the sentiment that British players tend to get over hyped , but come on. The guy was assured and confident on the biggest stage , not to mention coming up with goals. Phil
Jones, on the other hand, made a mistake both times he played.

Yeah, except one big thing. Football changed. What all big clubs have similiar? Quick and ball playing defenders. Old school defenders are history now or to say it better; with old fashion defenders you can't win anything.

Suppose I must have dreamt about Wes Morgan and Robert Huth lifting that Premier League trophy :)

The Caf base most transfers on their weird perceptions to be honest. He looks a little heavy so he must be a big brute. Anyone who actually watches him play football know he’s a really good defender and is good on the ball, and a serious warrior which we really miss.

I agree with some saying that with that money we could get a bigger upgrade on what we have.

He has personality which we lack. A major reason behind England’s great World Cup.

If hes a great defender can you give me 3 examples of great defending from him?

I see some pace and an ability to tackle! But his confidence is so low due to be used wrongly (at full back on on the right of the CB pair). I feel he's one of those guys that needs to be loved

He makes very few tackles. 1 every 2 matches match in the world cup, 7th least of the 87 CBs who played in the world cup.

He also attempted the least tackles per match out of our CBs. That said, he had a better successful tackle percentage than Jones and Rojo. So didnt try to win tackles often, but on the rare occasion he did he was fairly successful with it.

Personally would go for Dier over Maguire.

I'd love us to go direct for a player from one of our rivals that are actually competing with us and snatch a player thats quite useful for them.

I dont particularly like Jose- but Dier seems like a player he could get on progressing further on.

Even for England the biggest mistake we played was not having Dier instead of Walker.

I'm not the biggest Maguire fan but even I'd rather have Maguire over Dier.

For the people that say they dont rate Maguire, its good and well. But when statements are made saying hes just another Phil Jones, you really have to question that persons competence in evaluating a players ability

He's a much better player than Jones no doubt, but he's liable to the same sort of inconsistencies as Jones is in my opinion. The odd moment where you question how they have made a career in top level football. His aerial threat makes me him a big asset to a manager like Mourinho, but if we do end up signing him I can bet everything I have that there'll be numerous occasions where the fans are calling for his head on here because of his brainfart mistakes.
