Television Mad Men | SPOILERS

I think the way they ended this episode perfectly set up what you're talking about, Don not featuring at all. I actually wondered myself whether that might happen, it could work I think. Would be pretty unique to have a whole episode of a show so reliant on such a strong central character not feature said character in the penultimate episode of the series.

Yeah, could be interesting, and it could work. Mad Men's a show that obviously depends heavily on its main character, but it also has a superb cast of in-depth supporting characters too who have had their own focused episodes in the past. Don leaving and potentially leaving a bit of a wreck in his path for his old friends and McCann would be interesting.

The Episode synopsis mentions Don, so I doubt it but it could be primarily based around what you said?

Possibly. I'll need to have a look at the synopsis.

Trailer for the next episode. Doesn't give much away...

They never really do.

Although it does seem to hint at it being a fairly Pete centric/Draper-Francis family centric episode interestingly. And Don doesn't appear at all. Might be nothing though.

Kinda thought that Sally could have been speaking to him, but it seems more likely to be Betty or Henry.

Ruined if duffer, nice one.
 Just to be clear I don't know anything more than a 2 sentence synopsis. I haven't seen the script.

Regarding the whole D.B Cooper thing. They don't actually need to show him doing anything, if he gets on a plane with no real destination in mind and uses the name Dan Cooper to board it, that would be enough for me.

That's what the theory I read said would happen. Not actually see him hijack the plane, just see him arrive at an airport and buy a ticket with the name Dan Cooper. I think it would be a great ending.

Don doesn't need money and he's never needed a good cover for doing what he wants. It would be out of character (for a number of reasons, he isn't too handy with a parachute and doesn't have the knowledge about aeroplanes Cooper would've had). If Don wants to disappear, he'd just do it. Maybe go to the Bahamas like Jim Hobart. [ /spoiler]
Goddamn Archie is drunk on Fosters again, posting in the wrong thread and all.
I don't think it would be that out of character actually, and the money thing would be more of a thrill than anything else. And Don has always liked money anyway.

As for the parachute and airplanes knowledge, I think the latest episode was set in 1970, if he actually disappears from his former life, he'd have a year to prepare for it. Easy peasy.

Oy gevalt.

I disagree on the first point. Don has always shown an indifference to money. Betty made a comment on it in Rome, that he doesn't understand it. And you saw earlier in the season how easily he gave Megan a million dollars

You may be right, though I didn't mean 'liked money' in the sense that he's close to his money and wants to accumulate as much of it as possible. I agree he sometimes has a rather debonair approach to it, but usually he tries to ensure he's going to get the best deal financially for himself as possible. Money has been an important theme throughout the show as well.

And especially, I think the ransom part isn't the main aspect of the DB Cooper story as much as the air of mystery that surrounds it, still to this day. And in that aspect, it's pretty consistent with Don. I think saying it can't be Don because the guy asks for a 2M dollar ransom is a bit nitpicky.

But I wouldn't expect any less from a goddamn drunken Australian!

Yeah exactly, the last line being "Name please?"...

..."Daniel Bert Cooper"

I don't think...
...amount or even the money if he did it. I think it would be to do with the conversation he had with Peggy a few episodes back about leaving a lasting legacy outside of advertising.

Follow up to the theory article that interviews the girl who came up with the theory. Nothing more revealing to be honest but decent to read.

Another interesting theory on the comments of the article...once again 99% not the ending but an interesting idea, although it would make little sense to be honest.

Something happened to Don after Cooper's Eulogy, maybe a heart attack, but he's been in a coma since the midseason break. He's seen Cooper twice and Rachel Menken, both dead. We've never seen Don smile so much as in these last episodes, a euphoria of sorts, totally out of character. Roger telling Don that dying during a pitch is the best way to go and the Hobart telling them they're in advertising Heaven are clues. Diane most likely reminds Don of his mother, that he also could't save, and the advice by her former husband to find Jesus is the answer that he needs. The recent bar scene with Roger kissing him, was really Roger saying his bedside goodbyes to Don. Time is getting short for Don, the same headlights that you see out the back window of his Cadillac are getting closer. The very Jesus -looking hitchhiker that wants to take him to Saint Paul may be the best clue. The airplane exhaust intersecting the skyscraper makes a cross. Don may be ready to take that leap but it won't be out the window, he'll be leaping from the last minutes of life to the comfortable sofa of eternity.

Listening to Matthew Weiner being interviewed on the Nerdist. He says he doesn't deal in symbolism, he does however use fore-shadowing. Example being Don spilling red wine at the start of this season, many people thought it was a symbolic sign that Don would die at the end of the show, when in reality, Megan designed the interior and Don spilling it and covering it up was a sort of "feck it, I don't care" moment.

Also, he made it clear that that hooker raped Don as a kid, and that it shouldn't have been even a debate.

What did Weiner say about the
rape scene in GoT
?
The Drogo one or the Jamie Lannister one? :smirk:

Just watched the latest episode. I don't want this show to end, which means it's probably a good time to end it.

If the theory's above are true I'm not sure how I will take it. If I hadn't read the spoilers I would probably be like who the feck is DB Cooper, then wiki it and think it was the greatest ending of all time

But now I know about the theory and I'm hoping it doesn't end that way

That's exactly how I feel about it too!

Fecking Duffy

I'm re-watching.

Currently up to season 2. That episode where Glenn tries to 'rescue' Betty

Easily one of the most cringe/awkward scenes I've ever seen.
