Luke Shaw nearer to Manchester United exit [The Times]

Odds on him leaving & playing well for his next club?
Depends where he ends up. Wouldnt surprise me if he ends up back at Southampton. Schneiderlin looked very good at that standard, but done nothing here or at Everton so far. He is a Chelsea fan but would a top team go for him? Its a big risk for them.

We'd be lucky to get 10m for him let alone 20... As for his replacement, City also had weaknesses at their fullback spots so they got rid of the deadwood and spent top dollar on defenders. We need to do the same. Go get Alex Sandro from Juventus for left and someone of similar quality at the right back spot and be done with it.

Would love Sandro and if not available Tierney would do very nicely. I think a few fans would be surprised how good this kid actually is.

Chelsea, Tottenham, City, Arsenal are currently looking at Shaw. So there's that.

Well, he is definitely going to perform better than what he did at Manchester United. And we would only look back and think what it could have been. Wonder who the blame would fall on for this one?

Never seen him play so I can't say. I did hear that he's signed a 5 or 6 year contract and he's a Celtic fan, not sure how easy it would be to get him to move. At any rate, I'd rather go out and just sign a top LB already in their prime or just entering it than a young prospect.

If you buy too many young players based on potential, sometimes they just don't fulfil it. It's the risk. In some situations it's better to just buy the quality. Arguably positions like fullback you can get the quality for far less than other positions, so you don't need to take a punt so much on youth. Particularly in the modern game with the importance of quality fullbacks. City realised this last summer.

You take a punt on someone like Martial who is also young because the reward of him turning into a star outweighs the costs now. And the fact established star attackers cost a shit load more than established fullbacks.

Think if they are young and producing top performances then age becomes less of an issue. I agree the age needs to be spread out but a good youngster has a lot of benefits. Look at City with Sane Sterling KDB Jesus Stones this makes City dangerous for a right few years and these players will only get better playing together. Wish we had another 2-3 young exciting prospects. I remember we had Rooney and Ronnie and Anderson and Nani on the bench those were exciting times as these two youngsters coming off the bench were game changers with world class potential (never reached).

I'd rather he play a full couple of matches before a decision is made, yes the coach sees him close in training, but this is Mourinho, he has let slip some talents under his watch, a couple of whom are tearing up the league right now.

That Mexican thug who broke his legs with a scissors tackle.

A loan in January seems the perfect short term solution. We can't lose in that scenario so I'd be surprised if it didn't happen.

The thing in Tierney’s favour are he’s from the UK. Having watched his recent ex team mates (VVD, Foster, Wanyama) all go down and do exceptionally well then that’s a good line of form (although these 3 are physically huge) they never produced the level of performance Tierney has for a little while now.
Signing Rose would make sense but harder and more expensive.
Signing Sandro is a dream as he’s one of the top in the world but we’d bite your hand of for him.
Anyone else would be more of a gamble than Tierney.

If Shaw can't get a start for us with our options at LB even though he's fit, he is history. Clearly was quality but just get the sense the club and everything associated with it is too big for him. We've seen it sooo many times at big clubs, it's not how you play when things are going right for you, it's how you respond to the pressure when they are not. That's having a big club mentality and he does not.....

I remember Shaw owning Adnan when he was the best thing since sliced bread at the end of the 13/14 season. Little did anyone think then that neither Shaw nor Adnan might amount to much even if he wasnt a United player yet then.

Yea, literally just because. Maybe that's what he needs to kickstart himself. No risk, no reward. Instead we sign Young for another year.

I believe the talent he has shown before, both here and at Saints is worth trying everything to get at.
Ridiculous. If he can't motivate himself to perform in training, he doesn't deserve to start. Same as any other player.

There is literally nothing to suggest he'll perform better than he has done here. And the blame is on Shaw, naturally. Just as it was when he turned up looking like a slob under LvG.

Loan him out but don't sell Luke please. Hope to see Pochettino coach him at United in the future.

If we'll get a player who'll perform better for us we won't care and we shouldn't.

Good luck to Luke wherever he goes. If he has professionalism/determination problems, then it is his own problems that can be sorted out only by himself. I am really curious to know what was the cause of his last injury. Did he get injured because he was played too early after that horrific leg brake or was it just a new impact injury? If it is the former, then we have a problem with our coaching personnel.

We should trade Shaw to Chelsea for RLC.
Chelsea won't need RLC because they have Kante and Bakayoko.

They might make good use out of a full international LB because they always play wingbacks.

We won't be using Shaw while Jose is here so it seems selling Shaw to Chelsea would be of benefit to all three parties.

Similarly with Loftus-Cheek coming here: a midfield of Pogba, Matic and Loftus-Cheek would be insane.

If there is any chance of getting a decent bit of the cash back we paid for him, then sell him to anyone in the window. Absolute waste of wages and he can only blame himself for the lack of opportunities. If he was good enough, or even dedicated to getting back into the first team, he would be there….but he isn't. We can't keep holding on to players to meet their potential, whilst paying them millions in the process.

Needs to leave the club in order to salvage what's left of his career. He's best going back to Southhampton, getting fit and aiming to play week in week out. A club like United can't wait around for a player to come good. Fitness after the leg break definitely had a part to play, however, what it really boils down to is the sheer lack of drive and determination. Unfortunately with Shaw, it's just not there.

I saw someone mentioned Tierney was it, and said they could "be the left back for the next ten years".

That was quite sad, as that's exactly what we thought we'd got in Shaw.

Doesn't always work out unfortunately, but we 100% need a top left back at the latest of the summer. We cannot mess about with veteran wingers, limited Italian right backs, and centre backs out of position there any longer.

Based on an article in the Telegraph by James Ducker. I have posted the link already.
Yes, they are 'thought' to be keeping a watching brief. And who is thinking that exactly? Ducker doesn't even have the balls to state it outright because it's made up bullshit.

People are acting as if he's the second coming of Messi.

Any 'potential' this kid has is a dime a dozen, he's a fecking left back.

Buy a better left back and move him on please.

This. Lol. Couldn’t care if he went to City he’s a waste of space.

I accept he's going, I just believe there is far more to this, if people want to believe its all on Shaw & that Jose has given him a fair crack, that's on them.

Dime a dozen? Funny how nobody was saying that before he got injured.

I don't know whats happening with him but all I know is he's had a terrible injury and a lot of people don't dare take up sports again after this injury. There could be a lot of factors relating to the injury that are affecting him. It's a shame what has happened, nothing else. No point castigating a young lad that had his leg snapped in half on a football field. Not everyone can get over that.

I'd love to see if some of you lot would lace up your boots again after seeing your bone shoot out of your leg.

All true. But it’s not just that, is it? The leg break doesn’t explain his first season with us, which was blighted by minor injuries, weight and fitness issues.

Awww...you are such a sweet-heart. :D

In all seriousness though, Shaw was lucky he didn't end up under Pep Guardiola. Guardiola, when it comes to overweight players, is utterly ruthless. Ask Nasri.

You are behaving as if Shaw is permanently disabled.
He got injured and has long since recovered. These days, he is merely over-weight. As simple as that.
If he showed some professionalism, he'd lose the weight, have a good shave and turn up to work looking sharp and aiming to impress the manager. Instead, he gets fatter and wallows in self pity.
For his own good, he needs to grow up and move onto his next job. That's what adults do, when their current place of employment isn't working out.
Say what you like about Memphis, but at least he had balls, to tell Jose to play him or sell him to a club which will.

Does he come round to yours to weigh himself ? ;) tbf he's not looked overweight to me, but if you wanna keep that old line going, crack on . If anybody has ever looked overweight for a modern footballer , it was Jose's right back/cb , Ivanovich, I guess he can't have been tho eh. Not everybody can be a Ronaldo like roman statue,, and not everybody who isn't, is overweight.
Anyways, I just feel its personal , he was on his back from the get go.

Of course Jose hasn't gave him a fair crack because he never really got a chance to. When he took over Shaw was still recovering from an horrific leg break which was clearly still bothering him and when he did start to get more games he got another freak injury. You should go read comments from his past coaches at Southampton including comments from Poch and just come to terms with how bad he is mentally. He just doesn't have the mental game right now to play at a club like United and the freak injuries haven't helped.

I read the some of the poch stuff. I got the feeling he was implying shaw didn't know what was best for him & his future, he was swayed by the lure of Mufc , whereas poch felt he was at the right club for that moment in time. How many kids his age wouldve turned that down ? , im not gonna be too harsh on the lad for that, but, I may well be wrong. Lvg wasn't impressed with him at first, but he won him over, he even declared...this shall be the season of Luke shaw, a jinx in hindsight, he snapped his leg the next month. As for woy ,he's on the pay no mind list.

Lad weighs around 75kg and is over 180cm, I'd say all this talk of him being over weight is shite. Too many people obsessed with looking at his arse.
