I don't think that theory works if we apply it to United players over the last 20 years or so. Martial, Varane, Rafael, Pogba, Evans, Ole, and Hargraves are all examples of injury-prone players with seemingly athletic physiques suited for football.
Very true, but how many of these top heavy players are injury prone. Almost all of them, cant think of one that wasnt.... Maybe Carragher

This thread is weirdly active for such an inactive player. Are people actually saying anything interesting or is it just 35 pages of 'good player, cant be relied upon'?

Not signing a LB in the summer and selling Carreras is really not a good look from Ineos.

Yes after all the abuse was deleted.

I love Shaw as a player for us, but sadly, he can't be relied upon to be available as a first team player any longer.
The club need to prioritise bringing in a LB and LWB as soon as possible.
I agree, and if he was on half the wage he is no problem with him being a squad option, but at 29 yo he ain't getting fitter and his wage at 7.8m (150k per week) per year is too much for what he brings

Depends on if you like to argue for or against fan opinions like

- Even if he plays a small amount of matches, the 150k pw is worth it because he is the best LB.
- He was and is an awesome player, but the leg break caused everythin and it is known that leg break cause all other injuries 10 years down the line.
- He has always been a crock and the club are fools to not see this in 2022/23 when we gave him an extension.
- He is a crock and it is all his fault because of poor eating and exercise.
- I am just here to abuse him because I am angry.

Tired of saying it but he is finished as a footballer. Period. And it was obvious a year ago. And people at the club, namely Ashworth and Wilcox, need to wake up to that reality and replace him.
I think they already have given the way we’re being linked to anyone who’s heard of the left wingback position in 2025. The thing is we’ll have to persist with him anyway as he’s under contract until 2027 and realistically who’s going to buy him from us?

Fans are way too harsh on injury prone players. Same with Phil Jones and Martial, even Mason Mount recently. It’s always seen as their fault, when in reality they’re clearly devastated and struggling with their body failing them. I feel for Luke here, guess I just don’t get the anger.

Not sure if it's been posted, but someone worked out the total time he has been injured is 4.5 years. that's a 3rd of his career not playing, which is utter insanity.

Just ridiculous. Needs to be moved on from and at this point players need to start having some balls and admitting they are just stealing a living at this point

I reckon the anger is aimed more at the club than the player. And that's because they gave him another contract even though it's plain to see he's done at an elite level. I still think he's a baller but what's the point if he's not available most of the time.

And now we gotta put up with this till 2027 which seems like a lifetime away!

In 45 minutes?
yip...unfortunately his maybach hit a speedbump on the way into Carrington which triggered his calf to flare up. sources say that's him out until the next euros where he will endeavour to strip out for the final

Even if by some miracle he managed to play semi-regularly again, we'll be getting a much diminished version. He'll be way past his prime now, particularly as a full back or wing back. His ability to get up and down the line consistently was always limited by stamina and unwillingness to stretch himself physically, and it will be even worse now. His best position will probably be as left centre back.

I really can't wait to see this guy gone. Tired of waiting around for him to be fit again, then get back to peak performance levels, before inevitably becoming injured again. It's boring and, above all, he's unreliable. Availability is the most important trait you need in a modern day footballer. Doesn't matter if he's excellent in his position if he never plays. Hope we can move him and Malacia on quickly so that we can close this chapter and start again.

I’m old enough to remember when Darren Anderton was nicknamed ‘Sicknote’ by everyone who was a football fan in England, when he was at Spurs, because he was so injury prone despite being talented.

Anderton’s appearance stats (based on his 12 seasons at Spurs) are far better than Shaw’s at United (based on his 11 seasons at United).

So I’m not keen on relying on him if the most famous injury prone player you could name in modern English football has statistically been much more available than he has.

CB now for sure. He and Licha to rotate. Davies at LWB. Decent backline actually.

With Shaw, surely his decision to rush back for England factors into the current angst?

One of the all time ludicrous decisions that was.
Misses a massive spell of a season, rushed back for England, only plays a couple of games, rolls on a week or 2 - instantly injured again.

Phil Jones has long since taken that mantle. Hargreaves too.

Surely everyone has had enough of him by now?

It's becoming another Phil Jones situation. A player who never plays but you still see shite on here that contains "when fit..." or "if he can stay fit..."

He can't fecking stay fit, don't you get it?

If by some miracle he's fit in the summer, sell him. If not we may as well terminate the contract and save the wages + medical bill

Is that it for Shaw this season now? his injury setbacks are turning into months and months resulting in his season being over for what seems like a nothing injury after a bit of a jog around for 20-30min.

Bloody ridiculous.
