Reece comes back again and again for us, looks good, and then re-aggregates the same muscle repeatedly (hamstring). Not sure if Shaw is the same for you guys? Seems like he doesn’t even come back but rather has setbacks like this before even returning to the pitch?
Yeah Shaw rarely comes off during a game. Seems to be during training when it happens. Not sure it's always the same problem like James either.

It might not be a solution but I don’t get either player operating at the weight they are. If it was me I'd be slimming down, be it weight loss or easing up on the gym.

Gutted for Luke. Wish him a speedy recovery but we have to move him on this season.

Was there any time frame given for this latest setback?

I read "a few weeks" and apparently it's not in the same area as his previous long term injury.

Might not be that bad all in all, especially with the winter break coming. But so frustrating. Hard to imagine him ever being genuinely fit again and playing week in week out

The Everton game was a stroll in the second half, at the end both teams just wanted the final whistle.

If Shaw can’t get through that match! then he should start doing his coaching badges…playing football ain’t for him.

He will stay till the end of his contract and then go on the overlap moaning about how united ruined his career. If city doesn't sign him then he will become a coach at the club

I feel sorry for him. An excellent defender when fit which is a rare state for him these days. Time to move him on if anyone will have him and if not then let him see out his contract. I just hope we don't renew

Sigh, anyone who expected anything else is just out of their minds.

Try to move him on in the summer. I like the guy but he is done at the top level (or the level we want to get to).

Ya we should just cut our losses. But I guess he has no sell on value, not sure who would even consider buying him

Shaw is very top heavy. Similar build to Phil Jones. His legs just cant cope with weight they are burdened with. All the twisting and turning carrying his upper body weight is a problem.
Look at most injury prone players, they are all top heavy.... De Bruyne is another example (looks really out of shape at the moment)

He's got 3 years left on his contract, is on 180k a week and gets injured taking a shite. No one's going to buy him so we're stuck with him.

Someone in X said that we let Varane go for the same reasons and it's absolutely true.

We have to buy another starting LB and letting him know that he's done at this club.

We cant' rely on him, with 2 appearances in one year, and less than 50% on his time at the club.

He hass a silly contract, but we should push him out.

He's done

How do we move him on then? If he's on 200k a week until 2027 that's 2.5 years roughly which is around £26m which will count as a cost for FFP right now so how do we do it?

I can't help but feel sad about the likes of Shaw and Martial, so much talent wasted. Bu their bodies are just not up to it.

I wouldn’t for a minute accuse him of faking injuries but I do wonder if some of these injuries seem worse to him mentally because of the horrific leg break he had.

Could he possibly play through some of these but doesn’t have the mentality to do so? Lots of players have played through knocks and injuries, it’s seems with Luke though that any bit of discomfort at all sees him sidelined.

I think a lot of it stems from the leg break and the damage that's caused. He's always going to be susceptible to muscle problems after that leg break, he will be sub-consciously wary of it all the time I'd say. He also could've lost his leg by all accounts.

I feel sorry for him, as he clearly wants to play, but his body just won't let him. I honestly think he might retire soon if he keeps breaking down.

He probably should. It's shit but he's entering Dean Ashton territory.

There is no winter break this year. Play straight through.

It’s a real pity, such a quality footballer but it seems his body is not able to cope with regular football.

Speaking to Dutch outlet Vi.NL, Ten Hag said: "Luke Shaw is the best left back in the world.

“This guy is so good. But he has suffered a horrible injury at the start of his career and because of this he will never be able to play 60 games per season."

The fact is his body is broken; imbalanced because of the leg break. He’s out of whack and his career has been curtailed greatly because of that. Age looks like it’s compounding matters, and at the rate he’s going, he’ll probably call it quits if the problems persist.

He can’t be relied upon and the club have to compensate for that by basically acting like injuries are more likely than not, planning accordingly.

Gotta feel sorry for the guy, and hopefully he uses this as motivation to finally overcome his re-accurring injury issues and somehow prolong his career (I'm doubtful).
Can't help but think that the likes of Shaw, Martial, Jones etc. has themselves to blame, at least partly, for not doing the preventing measures earlier in their careers and later that lack of self care/professionalism comes back and bites them.

Hopefully we get some use and joy ot of Shaw in his remaining time here, but any sort of renewal must be off the table - and any offers must be considered (unlikely that they will come though).

But there's also his own account of not being in the best shape at times. We've also heard from various managers sort of questioning him on that, we've seen the off season photos, we see him on the pitch looking heavy.

This "Wayne Rooney type physique" line he's used looks even worse than it did at the time considering we now know Rooney wasn't looking after himself.

The leg break was a massive shame but let's not forget, he was injured plenty the season before that.

Luke just hasn't looked after himself properly. Naturally leaner guys could probably get away with it but he needed to go the other way, be extra vigilant.

I feel sorry for him, hope he assess himself and make the right decision rather going on like this.

Wondering if Club or Insurance companies pay the salaries during players injury period, anyone knows?

Him and Martial were two of my favourite players, and seeing both of them struggling to play these past couple of years has been sad to witness.

The Club will have to take a stance against players going half fit or are being rushed back to play for England.

Rashford went half injured and then decided to have his surgery on the clubs timeframe missing the start of the season until November. And he didn’t even start for England or had some bigger impact.

Same thing with Shaw now, instead of focusing on getting fit over the summer, Southgate was desperate to use him, and now, again, he will miss half a season.

This is what annoys me the most also.

I don't see how United could have stopped him doing it. It was his choice, and I can see why he took it as England had a good chance of winning the tournament.

I doubt it even makes much of a difference, he would have just got injured playing for us anyway.

Holy Mother of God!

I remember the leg break very well. It was a horror challenge that wasn't even called a foul. But given how bad that break was why does Shaw drop socks so low and seemingly not wear a shin pad?

I have always wondered that as well.

He’s lucky he’s a human and not a horse or he’d be turned into a Pritt stick by now

Really disappointed for him. He’s such a good player, but his body is just letting him down at this point.

Hopefully this ensures we bring in another player in January. PSR or not, it’s a must.

he wears shin guards, just very small ones. Re the socks, quite a few pros do that, Grealish does it, Alexaner Arnold does it. Could be a fashion choice, or some say pulling their socks up higher leads to cramping. That's also why we see some players cutting holes in the back of their socks to reduce compression on calf.

The despair and sadness comes across in his statement with this latest setback. Doesn't matter what salary/contract he is on, I am certain he just wants to be fit to play. Some of the dogs abuse he gets from some 'fans' is sad to see.

He should agree to a mutual termination and go find another club in January. He's only played more than 60 minutes in a match 11 times for us since the start of the '23/'24 season.

His contract is worth around £25 million to him. Considering his injury record he won't have much interest even on a free anyway.

As others have said, he's heading towards Phil Jones territory now. If he can't improve his fitness record over the next two and a half years he will probably end up retiring!

Those are certainly not Manchester United supporters. They are not even ‘fans’. Vile scumbags. Should be banned here, in my view. Useful at least for adding to ignore list, to try and make this place endurable for ordinary punters.

I love Shaw as a player for us, but sadly, he can't be relied upon to be available as a first team player any longer.
The club need to prioritise bringing in a LB and LWB as soon as possible.

I don't think that theory works if we apply it to United players over the last 20 years or so. Martial, Varane, Rafael, Pogba, Evans, Ole, and Hargraves are all examples of injury-prone players with seemingly athletic physiques suited for football.
