Luiz Gustavo

If he was all that I'm sure it'd be bigger clubs than Werder Bremen in for him.

The fact he's surplus to requirements at Bayern too... No thanks.
Carrick wouldn't get anymore games then Gustavo does in that midfield so that's flawed logic, as others have said.

Yeah it's not. People were fawning the same over Yann M'Vila few years ago, he is currently playing trade in Russia.
Of course sometimes the big clubs miss a trick, but usually they get it spot on.

It is strange logic KM. Bayern's midfield is probably the best in the world, if not, atleast in the top 2. Not getting into their CM is no slight on Gustavo. He's a quality player and would improve us considerably. He could slot alongside Carrick and also play in his place when we want to rest him. If only Wolfsburg are in for him, its even better for us.

Well done for missing my point completely. What I meant that the top clubs usually snap up or have an interest in very good players, without being disrespectful but I don't think Wolfsburg belong in that category right now and the fact that they're the only ones who have shown concrete interest in him says something.

All this Arsenal link is created by Metro so far.
Well most other big clubs have already made additions to their midfields in this window, they might not need him. We do. If you've watched him at all you'll know he's good enough regardless.

Also, his performances both at Bayern and Brazil prove how good he is. He'd improve most midfields. Us and Chelsea for example.

Rumenigge, the CEO of Munich, has already confirmed concrete offers from England and Italy. It is surely not far fetched to believe that Arsenal is among the interested clubs. It would actually fit quite nicely.

The comparision to M´Vila is pretty ridicoulus. The french had one impressive season at Rennes before following the money to Russia. Gustavo started performing the moment he hit the Bundesliga. He has five consistent good seasons under his belt, two and a half of them at Bayern. He is not only proven in the league but also the CL (M'Vila has not even seen a minute there). On top of that he is a starter in the Celesao.

The argument, that he is not good enough for United, because he fell in the pecking order at Bayern, is laughable. They have quite possibly the best midfield in the world, including at least two absolute world class players. Every of United´s midfielder, and that includes Carrick, would have real difficulties to obtain a spot in their first XI.

I'm sorry but if this guy is the business Bayern wouldn't be looking to offload him first of all, and the apparent interest in him would be from bigger clubs secondly. That's pretty obvious to me.

Right. Because when sneijder was deemed surplus by Madrid it obviously meant he wasn't worth a big teams attention...

Exactly, but some people here are so closed minded and don't want to accept the reality.

He said you were strongly looking at him before anyone else had heard of it. The guy's got contacts.

fecking typical. Perfect player for us who will improve our first team and squad yet we're letting a rival strengthen without even bothering to make an effort to sign him. I really don't get what we are doing this summer.

Feck all, it seems.

He's not even signed for anyone yet. Keep your lid on.

I think I might actually have a mental breakdown if we sit back and watch yet another quality midfielder move clubs, especially if its to another PL club and for a reasonable fee. Further more, if it transpires we weren't interested because said player isn't 'PL proven' or some other bullshit, I might actually go on a murderous rampage.

So our rivals are stockpiling on CMs, whilst we sat there doing nothing. Apart from Carrick, all our CMs wouldn't get in the Arsenal team. Which is depressing.

All the whinging about not getting a shiny new midfield toy will be irrelevant when we're lifting the league trophy yet again come May.

I don't understand you why you people get so agitated about this guy. He's a great destroyer, but with the ball he's pretty mediocre. He averaged around one assist per season for Bayern. For certain Teams he will be a great addition, but I think United should look for someone more complete.

It's because they saw him score a few long range goals on youtube and now they're experts. That's how it works.

I think that's what we need, our midfield gets absolutely walked through at times. No problem scoring goals but we conceeded as many as Liverpool last season and more than Everton.

We could do with someone like Gustavo to make our midfield more solid. There is also the fact that an injury to Carrick would leave us completely fecked at the moment, and Gustavo would offer us some cover.

Yeah he's a bit too defense orientated for my liking, but the fact is that we're at desperation point and to have somebody of his class in the squad can only be good. He'd allow Carrick to push forward by sharing the defensive responsibilities.

Same as we've done with midfielders for about 5 years?

Yeah that's it. Its got absolutely nothing to do with the fact we have a huge gaping centre midfield looking whole in the middle of our team. And a defensive minded player who can play in midfield would actually be exactly what we need.

You really do act like such a condescending prick on here. You go round talking about players like you have in depth knowledge on them, yet when other people comment on a player, its all because of youtube.

No, I was just talking about the guy that kept mentioning he offered a threat from long range. We get it, you watched the youtube video.

Get a grip man.

Yeah, 14 million is a very good fee for Gustavo. Surprised he isn't on a larger shopping list if he's really available.

He's not that good. We'd be better off looking elsewhere in my opinion. He's an out and out defensive midfielder, and I don't think the type of player we need.

Do we have to bid for every central midfielder that becomes "available"?

Some of the posts here reek of desperation.

Well we don't have to, but most of them would improve our starting 11 and give us more depth at the same time. I think we need someone like Gustavo and a creative playmaker type, because we are so short in midfield and if Carrick were to get injured we would be fecked on both accounts. If I were to choose only one of them though, it'd probably be the defensive minded midfielder type, because Anderson can do a good job on his day as a creative type of midfielder. Those days just come rarely because of his injuries which is why we can't rely on him for a whole season.

Will be a bit more than annoying if we just stand by and let Arsenal sign this lad without trying to get him at all. They want him, we actually need him.
