I don't think Arsenal tried for him properly. As said before, going on from the description of people who've seen him, he didn't strike me as a Wenger type of player.

I've turned down 25% and 35% offers but when it got to 50% I pulled their arms off.

'I have considered everything. I knew about everything. My heart decided on Wolfsburg. Wolfsburg have always been after me. They wanted me from the very beginning. That is the reason, I am here. It is a good project here'.

Not the wallet that's £40K a week better off?

The little boys inside these footballers are really fecking Arsenal over every summer.

As strength in depth he would have been a good player to have. He obviously wanted more football than Wenger may have given him and as I said before, I don't think Wenger would drop Arteta for him.

This 'project' stuff is becoming a bit of a running joke now.

Sent off 2 times in his first 3 games for Wolfsburg.

Wow

Never expected that. Hard working player, never really saw an aggressive side to him.
I think he set a record for most red cards in a season when playing for Hoffenheim, was never really a problem at Bayern, so I'm surprised he's back to his overagressive style at Wolfsburg.

/edit:
the record part is wrong, but he was sent off twice in each of his Bundesliga seasons for Hoffenheim and collected a lot of yellow cards as well.

Thanks Balu. I never saw that part to his game but I suppose playing for a team like Bayern, where you dominating 99% of your opponents, it's a bit easier.

If his buyout was that low, I think it would be a great signing, especially with the fee's these days

its realistic. he went to Wolfsburg, because he didnt want to make a big move to a foreign league one year ahead of the worldcup. There were always rumors, that he has the option to join a bigger club afterwards. He is a hardworking defensive midfielder. His physical style would suit the PL. He would be a very good transfer, because United doesnt have such a player. He could partner any creative midfielder/playmaker in a 2 or 3 men midfield.

I agree, I think he is the perfect option for United. He will be rather cheap, is used to the pressing defense and I can imagine Bayern circa '11 being very similar to how LVG will use United so he will have a good understanding of how to do a role in a LVG style system.

We would even be able to buy a winger as well considering the discussed money being available for transfers.

Should have signed him last year, I imagine he'll be more expensive now. He would be a good signing though, United need a player like this and I would much prefer him to De Jong.

Didn't he want to stay in Germany and that's why he turned down Arsenal?

This guy and Herrera and we will have addressed our midfield issues perfectly.

Wtf happened here? I think Blackwidow bumped this thread with release clause talk and now I can't see that post for some reason.

Though not officially confirmed, Gustavo is believed to have a release clause somewhere around €25m - 30m which expires July 31.

There's a new Gustavo thread. Post in there.

Another Reminder - Don't bump old mega threads. Start a new one instead.
