Luiz Gustavo

I think you're probably right in the broadest sense, but they bought Martinez, Gotze and Thiago after they had Gustave i.e. to replace him. They've obviously decided that those players are better options than he is.
Wouldn't Gotze be playing further forward, I would have assumed Thiago too, but he played him as a DM quite a bit in pre-season.

If we're looking for players that are good enough to start for the current Bayern midfield, this is going to be 1 long wait because none of them are attainable.

Best to let the manager sort that out, he knows what he is talking about and has no doubt given it some thought.

Balu mentioned something interesting to that.
He said the way Gustavo played last season, Bayern would have never gone in for Martinez. They never knew he would develop such a talent going forward as well. He really is a good CM now that's not only a class number 6 but also contributing in their attacks.

Not in the plans of Guardiola though it seems.

I was wondering who would be first to mention that.

He clearly is considered not good enough to remain in that very team, so why should Moyes consider him "good enough" for us? Or are you saying that he is surplus to requirement because of a new system of playing?

I haven't given the lad much attention, but if Moyes buys him, I will bow down to his vast knowledge and his secret room.

Perhaps because they have Martinez, Schweinsteiger, Thiago and Kroos who play on those two midfield positions while we have Carrick, Cleverley and Anderson there. All of them inferior to Bayern counterparts. I don't see how a midfielder who 'is not good enough' for Bayern by default is 'not god enough' for us when we have a much worse midfield than them.

This surely cannot be the attitude? This is the sound of desperation. I would rather Moyes got the right player than took what was available.

I've no opinion on Luis Gustavo himself, but this summer we are under heavy pressure to sign someone. Not everyone, but the best and most fitting out of what's available.

Yeah from reading about him it seems he's exactly the opposite of the midfielder that Pep likes.

I've explained above, Neviller. I take your point on my use of the word pathetic - as I say, I don't think that of the club, and maybe if I was writing in a more formal context I'd do a double take on the words I choose to employ. I'm more than a bit bemused that Arse are going in, seemingly unchallenged, for Gustavo though. And my impatience isn't unique to just me - this CM issue is long overdue a resolution.
That's better. If you think we should be interested that's fine, we all have opinions. And some are less patient than others, and that's fine too. I will admit to taking exception to the club being labelled pathetic for little more than a club being interested in a player. The club have come in for far too much criticism this summer, in my opinion. Much of it unwarranted.

Fair enough. Glad to bury the hatchet before bed. I'm off. G'night.

Martinez is the better player and the one who replaced him. Gotze and Thiago play totally different roles to him so cant really be compared. Bayern have both Martinez and Schweinsteiger who can play behind a front 5 considering how they dominate the league so Gustavo isnt really needed anymore.

Just posting what Honigstein said, he basically said that he's very good at covering the back four and but attackingly won't add much to a team who have loads of ball possession.

His strength lies in protecting the back 4, definitely. But he has loads of energy, drives forward with the ball and is a good passer too. Definitely someone who has the tools to play box to box for us alongside Carrick while easily slotting in alongside another CM when we want to rest Carrick.

You must be a blast at parties.
I generally don't discuss United and their transfer policy at parties. I'm not sure what point you're making though. Would I only be a blast at parties if I was stupid and said stupid things? In that case, I can picture you as Van Wilder.

He is going to be the one to sort it out but its pretty ignorant to say we shouldnt be interested in someone who cant get into Bayern's midfield.

Yup. Pep doesnt like playing with real DM at all it seems. Thiago was often used as the man furthest back in midfield during pre season and he really isnt a classic DM.
Bayern will be interesting to watch. Not that I particularly like them but the way Pep sets them up interests me. Even Schweinsteiger is not sure what his plans exactly are.

See that's where you're going wrong. The girls love that.

Again, you are agreeing that we should panic buy?

So, someone who's fairly young(young enough to be still coming into his prime), a capable box to box, or to cover the "Carrick" role, and available relatively cheaply. Also, seems he'd be capable to cover if Carrick wanted to drift forward himself.

Sounds perfect for us, tbh.

No, I said if Moyes doesn't think he is good enough, why should we be in for him? This is really simple stuff.

It still is retarded that he's breaking up Martinez-Schewini pairing for his little experiments.

Aim low, shoot lower.

I agree. He's generally changing a bit mutch for a triple winning team. But let's wait maybe it all pays off.

BTW how the hell did I get into so much arguments with you. You are quite a decent poster.
It's the Matchday forum I think. It brings out the worst in me.

Buying someone like Gustavo when you have the options we have is anything but a panic buy. That'd be buying Scott Parker from Spurs.

He is from what i have seen of him,

Also in The Guardian, Arsenal will continue their pursuit of Bayern Munich's Brazil international defensive midfielder Luiz Gustavo. Arsene Wenger has already confirmed his interest in the 26-year-old.

Seems like it's between Wolfsburg and Arsenal. I doubt he'd stay at Bayern if an offer has been accepted.

He knows he won't play much if he stays and that would be a bad career move, especially with the World Cup next summer. He needs to be a regular this season. He'd also choose Arsenal over Wolfsburg, that's certain.

So which "right player(s)" are now still available to play for you in CM?

Player availability is not something I follow, I will leave that to others in here. The fact remains many are only shouting about him in here because he is available.

See that's where you're going wrong. The girls love that.
Getting married and growing older was probably where I went wrong, with regards to impressing girls at parties, rather than not discussing United and their transfer policy. Though, I did chat my wife up by telling her why I preferred 4231 over 442.

Hey, everyone Glaston is back, lets give him some attention so that he finds some solace in his pathetic life.

Amateur move that. Personally 4-6-0 is far more hip. You should've educated her about False 9.

I think he'l revert back to Schweinsteiger-Martinez for the CL games and will thus play them from time to time in the league as well. Reckon he thinks they can do with a more attacking player in that core 2 and considering how they dominate the league, I think it'l work well for them.

Which just doesnt make sense.

Why you're allowed to continually WUM in these threads is beyond me. You add next to feck all to this place. You're without doubt the worst opposition fan we have here.

We mods need a punching bag sometimes.
