Liverpool : General discussion

140 days since LFC last scored two goals in a game.

Absolutely staggering. Okay so there was a summer break, but it's still pretty astonishing.

This probably won't get mentioned anywhere but I'm wondering why Milner wasn't sent off.

He got a yellow card early on for a tactical foul. He then went down in the box without any contact from the Norwich player but yet somehow escaped a yellow card for diving, which would have been his second and a sending off.

The commentators agreed that it wasn't a penalty, it looked like a dive so why didn't the referee simply apply the rules?

If Coutinho and Sakho pick up injuries and are out for lengthy periods of time, they will be genuine relegation contenders.

They're absolutely shite. Wonderful stuff.

Milner is woeful according to rawk. He was their player who sacrificed so much to play for them right?

Not sure. He's definitely ahead of Origi for me, but we should be giving Sturridge time to find his feet, and Benteke is going to play unless his hamstring niggle turns out to be serious.

Could see Sturridge/Ings in our next PL game (Villa at home), and I think that might work out well. Hopefully Origi and/or Ings also get a run out against Carlilse.

I'm just baffled at the fact Rodgers is still here. There's nothing justifying a decision to not sack him. He's a clown.

Who's the alternative though?
Im sure they've started looking but them things aren't always quick.
And there aren't a million candidates that spring to mind. Its kind of Klopp or ... random punt on a middling manager

We had all summer to find a replacement, it's a joke that he survived last season.

At this stage I'd rather we gave someone at the club already a caretaker role until we identify a replacement rather than keep Rodgers here.

After backing him in the summer and giving him money to spend, it would be madness to let him go at this stage. It doesn't look good but you have to give him till Christmas to see if his signings will come off.

I'd agree but i hope he stays for a couple of months ... or maybe even christmas till after the winter window is over. That'd be great
KRAP

He might stumble on some formation that isn't too horribly unblaanced despite having 5 players in random made up positions and beat some midtable teams for a few games,
that'd keep around for a while
Do you have a relatively easy fixture list coming up soon?

Edit:

Everton v Liverpool
Spurs vs Liverpool
Liverpool vs Southampton
Chelsea vs Liverpool (surely chelsea will have got their shit together by then?)

Dang

Rodgers should probably be sacked, but Carragher did make an interesting point today detailing that Liverpool have allowed him to spend money this summer so it would be a bit weird to sack him now.

I completely disagree. That's a fallacy, it's similar to keeping a flop signing for longer than necessary when it's clear it's not going to work out. Making 1 mistake doesn't justify another. To keep him now compounds the mistake.

We all know Rodgers isn't going to turn it around. The longer he's given to turn it around, the more damage he'll cause. He's already shown himself incapable.

After he finished second?

Finishing 2nd wasn't last season.

Fair point. His signings make no sense anyways. He his 'philosophy' is all about ball possession and quick transitions but the last two years he's brought tricky wide forwards and supplemented them guys like Benteke, Balotelli and Lambert who need crosses and direct play.

Not sure where he's going with that side at all.

That's a bit unfair. Just over a year ago, when you nearly won the league - before slippy did his thing - Brendon was the best young manager in the world according to the population of scouseland.
Tactical genius, and man manager that Fergie could only dream of being like. This is they guy who created the foundation of Swansea FC foundation, not the one who took over the foundation from someone else.

Personally i believe Rodgers has been very lucky in his roles. I have yet to see any evidence he will be a top manager. He has proved he has very little ability to pick talent, his purchases have never really taken Liverpool to the next level. Saying all that I would love to see him at Liverpool for the next decade. You need stability after letting Roy and KKK go.

Now now. Give Brendy a chance.

We were hasty to get rid of Moysie and look at the mess we're in now.

Stability for the sake of stability is just as dangerous as being trigger happy though.

What formation did Rodgers play? I've seen suggestions he went 3 at the back - against Norwich City...

Mig
Clyne Can Skrtel Sakho Moreno
Lucas
Milner
Coutinho
Benteke Sturridge

Essentially 6 at the back, 3 up top, and Milner in the mid... Such a cowardly lineup.

Can't take from him what he's done in his first couple of years and he earned the right to make mistakes and have a less successful third season, but his credit must be starting to run low. I don't see much point in sacking him now but if things don't improve over the next couple of months, Liverpool may be starting to think ahead and bring in a new man this season in order to prepare better for the next one.

Honest question for Liverpool fans.

Do you think, expectation levels would have been a lot less of him, had Liverpool not had that one good season. If you look over the last 7-8 years that was like a outlier and finishing outside top 4 has been the trend.
