Liverpool : General discussion

The more I see of Coutinho the more I can picture him following in a long line of brilliant Brazilians at Barcelona.

I realise Iniesta looks far from finished after his performance at the weekend but with the talk from Neymar and Ronaldinho you have to think Coutinho is top of their list as a future replacement.

I recall Gerrard said something about Coutinho being Suarez's favourite player so he'll come highly recommended from several sources, is only 23 and has La Liga experience from his loan at Espanyol.

Klopp has had some success in hanging on to players that were wanted by bigger clubs in the past (Reus, Hummels) but as popular and talented a man as he is, Lewandowski and Gotze still went and that was with regular Champions League football and challenging for the league title. Liverpool can't even offer Coutinho that at the minute to be honest.

He seems like a decent young man and think he only signed a new deal a while back, but would you Liverpool fans deny him what is probably his dream move? What kind of fee would you be looking for keeping in mind that Suarez looks a bargain when Sterling went for £50m? How would he react? Suarez had previous and everyone knew the kind of person he was but would Coutinho do the same thing?

This isn't meant to provoke your fans, I love watching him play and English football would be poorer without the likes of Coutinho and Silva even though they play for our rivals.

Didn't Barca sign Turan as a kind of replacement for Iniesta? Sergi Roberto and Munir all looking good at the moment too

I wouldn't, if it actually is his dream to play at Barcelona though. He repeatedly said him and his missus love living in Liverpool and he's very happy there at the moment, so I hope he sticks around a few more years, he's only 23 so he's got time. Suarez was 27 when he went to Barcelona, and probably the best striker in the world. Coutinho is still young and not even the finished article at the moment, so it'd be in his own interest to stay at Liverpool and develop in a complete player, dictating every game from start to finish. He's getting there, his performance againt City was very impressive, but I'd like to see him do it every game for a whole season. I know that's a lot to ask but he says himself he wants to keep improving so that's the goal he should be aiming for.

No doubt he's improving all the time, he looks a bit stronger to me after this pre season too, has a bit more strength on the ball to go with his skill.

I can't say for sure that playing for Barcelona is his dream, just that I read somewhere that he described Ronaldinho as his hero and he still studies his game to try improve his own.

The rough physical treatment Coutinho gets in the Prem is another strength of his I think, players are better protected in La Liga and Champions League football and he would already have developed a toughness that compliments his technical ability.

To be fair, I doubt you'll find an 23 year old Brazilian player in the world who doesn't see Ronaldinho as some sort of hero. I bet Firmino would reply with a similar answer if asked the same question.

That being said, Coutinho doesn't have the consistency yet. Perhaps he'd find that a bit easier when there's better players all around hiim, but right now, I think this is the best place for him to be.

However, in a few years time, if he wants to move to Barcelona, the offer is right, and he doesn't kick up a fuss ala Sterling if it isn't, then I'll wish him all the best. Gotta be honest, I'd kinda like to see how he'd do at Barcelona, but it'd hurt to lose our best player right now.

Do you think Benteke will be restricted to a bench role against the big teams, then? I assume fitness played a role in that decision against City but Firmino up top seemed to work out just fine.

I think Klopp will play to the opponents weaknesses & tactical side of things a lot better than Rodgers did. Some games he'll start, some he won't.

You clearly haven't read the project details: 4 star hotel with 180 bedrooms, 579 new homes, NFL football, medical centre, extreme sports centre, multi-use games area, museum, sky walk, stadium usable for several entertainment events each week (rock concerts etc), several bars and cafes/restaurants, immersive cinema .... the list goes on.
Wrong thread but they're building all that in that shithole of a neighborhood?! They'll need to get the transportation sorted imo. When I went to WHL last year, I remember walking a minimum of a half hour from Seven Sisters tube stop to the stadium.

Tube station is 5 minutes down the road.

The area is rough as shit though. Spent around ten minutes there, popped into a shop and a druggy came up to me mumbling something. Thought he was going to knife me.

We could be in the top 4 by the end of the year, and given we've played (almost) all our difficult away games, I'd back us to do well in 2016.

If Klopp can turn around your home form. Liverpool look a better team away from home at the moment IMO.

They are still in their honeymoon period. I expect them to keep their current run into late Jan, before having a few bumps and lost momentum towards the end of the season.

If I have to put money on it I'd say they will finish 5th. Which will be quite a good season for them league wise all things considered.

No player does that for a whole season so don't set yourself up for disappointment.

Klopp has been stuck with poor quality players for a while. Away from home Klopp can make them look like boss players with high intensity work masking their inability to create. But at home you need more creativity and eye for goal.

The only way to turn our home form around is to not play Lallana, Milner, Ibe and even Firmino so often. Henderson, Sturidge and Coutinho are the answer but they need to stay fit.

That's fair. We definitely need to dip our toes in the Jan transfer market.

I don't give Klopp & our medical team much chance of managing that. Hell, I think Jesus would struggle with Daniel.

With klopp's pressing style i think your players might get more injured . Rues, Sahin, Bender, Gundogan, hummels, gotze, kehl, pizchek(spelling?) all have shady injury records. Notably barioss and Lewa were players who did not get injured alot as they needed to press lesser.
It takes a toll on your players, i watched the game against swansea and although first 30 mins were very good pressing but without any clear opportunities and then the press became less and less effective. Eventually swansea found a way out. Britton was very good in that game, particularly when he turned 2 liverpool pressing midfielders. Its a system of smashing teams early and if done well will win you games in first 30 mins, After that you will fade. I dont really expect your injury list to shorten at all either.

Lewandowski needed to press $hitloads for Dortmund, as he does now for Bayern. There are no passengers in the frontlines of a pressing team.

Why is it that when Coutinho is unavailable they don't try Teixeira out? He's the closest thing to him in the whole squad, he could lessen the loss.

They need a defender who's good on the ball, a midfielder, and a right sided creative attacker if they're to do serious damage this season.

Beats me. He had a decent loan spell at Brighton last season, and is fast approaching 23. If he can't get a Europa League/League Cup game, then it's time for us to move him on, for the sake of his career if nothing else. I feel sorry for the kid.

Yeah, we need replacements for Skrtel, 2 midfielders, and a RW for me. Perhaps a forward if we're getting rid of Sturridge (which we should be). An upgrade on Mignolet in the next 12 months would also be a bonus, but not absolutely required.

Agree 100%. At the very least bring him on when one of Coutinho, Firmino or Lallana is tiring.

Skrtel is having a good season, we will need an additional CB come the end of the season but it won't be for him, it will be for Toure I imagine. Our defence gets battered on RedCafe but that is mainly old hat based on early season. Since Klopp arrived the record in 7 goals conceded in 10 games (and just once more than 1 in a game) compared against, for example, the best defensive record in the PL (United's) of 4 in 10 games. If we make that 12 games then that's 7 in 12 for United and 9 in 12 for Liverpool. So we have tightened up considerably even with Sakho and Gomez out.

I agree that Skrtel has been (and still is) a good defender for us, but he's 31 in a few weeks time, and I see him as a player we can improve on. Moreso than Gomez, Sakho, Clyne, and Moreno, anyway.

Maybe it's not something that needs to be sorted in Jan, which would be better dedicated to improving our frankly shallow midfield, but it's definitely something I'd like us to address sooner rather than later.

It's funny how accumulation of injured players of pressing teams is due to pressing while a very similar accumulation of injured players of non-pressing teams is due to unlucky stellar constellations what not.

klopp is alreayd the best manager in the world and transformed liverpool... you can see the players are giving more effort because klipp already gave the effort to talks english.. they think hey if he speaks languages i shoot ball in goal now hehehe maybe im exagerating

He's doing well

Keeping pace with swashbuckling United side too, more or less

The difference being of course is that LVG has had nearly 18 months, & spent a fair bit of dosh, in putting together United's swashbuckling side. Klopp has yet to delve into the transfer market for Liverpool.

I don't get all the criticism your manager gets from United supporters. You're one point off spot, yet a lot of people on here are just talking about your chances of finishing top 4. The ends will justify the means if United win the league this season. & you've got every chance of doing so.

Ha ha ha - thumbs up.

Surprised that they're considering extending Mignolet's contract; or has he improved a lot lately?

just last week he was penalised for what looked like taking too long to release the ball. he held it on for 20 seconds as against the allowed 6.:wenger:
