Liverpool : General discussion

I really like klopp, this is heartbreaking for me to not hate Liverpool as much, so long as there bellow us in the table and we get 6 points a year

So long as they're below us in the table and we get 6 points a year.....you....hope they do well? Dafuq is this?

Redcafe is infested with some weird Klopp love in. It's just.. odd.
It really is. There is nothing about the man that justifies this level of devotion from non Liverpool/Dortmund fans, pet alone Liverpools biggest rivals.

Absolutely. I guess the poster Mad Winger was gone before you came here? He would have been torn right now

I know of him. Idiot who loved Kagawa and blamed Ferguson for his underperforming. Then lost his shit when Klopp couldn't get Kagawa back to his best.

It's probably nothing, he just broke the one rule they're serious about and keep harping on about: You'll never walk alone.

Benteke's suffered a knee ligament strain according to the Guardian. Both him and Sturridge are doubts for the Chelsea match.

Thank feck for that. Now they are as toothless as we are.

Looks like the ones claiming he had a habit of getting players injured might have a point

Edit: word(but not punctuation);)

A lot of knee issues at Liverpool. Gomez & Ings - ACL. Benteke knee ligament too. Training maybe too demanding?

Sturridge's is also a knee injury I think. Though he probably picked that up when he got out of bed.

Gomez was injured on England duty. Ings was injured on his first day back after England duty (before Klopp got the job, I think).

BT Sport’s German football expert Rafa Honigstein :

How important do you see Saturday’s game with Chelsea in terms of the two clubs’ hopes of securing Champions League qualification this season?
This isn’t a game that will decide anything. I actually don’t think it’s as important for Liverpool as it is for Chelsea and Mourinho.

Of course if Liverpool got a draw or a win people would look at it as a real sign of Liverpool’s fortunes changing under Klopp.

But for me the real proof of that will come when we see whether they can grind out results at places like Sunderland or when teams come to Anfield and sit deep. We’ll know a lot more about this team come January or February.

You can’t read too much into whatever happens against Chelsea. It’s a long season. Klopp is at the very beginning of his tenure.

But it’s an interesting game with it being Mourinho v Klopp. It might be Mourinho’s last chance to turn their season around.

Is this a good time for Klopp’s side to face Chelsea?
Liverpool should be more relaxed about it. They should relish the opportunity. Any time to play Chelsea has been a good time this season as they are unrecognisable from the team which won the title last season. Chelsea’s fragility makes them a much less daunting opponent.

But in some ways the fact that Jose’s head is on the chopping block makes it more difficult for Liverpool. I think the fans will rally around the manager at Stamford Bridge and make it more awkward.

How do you think Klopp will approach it tactically?
I think Liverpool will play a bit deeper and press a bit later. Then they’ll try to hit them on the break. Chelsea are the home side and they have to go for it. Chelsea will need to be proactive to get their fans on board.

It’s an opportunity for Liverpool to be a bit more reactive, to frustrate Chelsea and then try to snatch a goal or two on the break.

I'm expecting a terrible game, but any sort of positive result is fine with me. A draw would be great.

What's the point of having a German football expert who doesn't give you some insight into how Klopp might set up based on his time in Germany?

Chelsea is at home they have to attack, so Liverpool counter. Can someone translate that? I don't speak German football...

I think it's one of those games where the managers are too scared to lose. A mistake will decide this game.

It'll be 1-0 Chelsea. Willian will score early and they'll just kill the game from there.

.

You really shouldn't expect some deep and meaningful tactical insight from Honigstein.

They've been outplayed against Spurs and Saints. I rate Klopp and he'll eventually get things right but let's not give credit before it's deserved.
I agree with the second part but to suggest we were ouptlayed against Spurs and Saints is far from the truth, really.

C'mon man, Saw the first half against Spurs and full match against Saints, and I think you were outplayed in both match. Against Saints, there was a spell of 15-20 mins where you looked the better side when Benteke came on but then Saints regained control.

We were all over Spurs in the first 20-25 minutes of the game, after that spell they were dominant for the rest of the first half. In the second half, both sides were threatening at times but neither team was good enough to really take control of the game. We've got very different definitions of outplayed if you think we were outplayed that game.

I was at Anfield for the Saints game, it was an even game and again, neither side deserved the victory. In my book, being outplayed means you were pressed away during the whole game and one side was constantly on top of the other one, which surely wasn't the case last weekend. Even in the first half when we basically played with ten men because Origi wasn't offering anything up front, Southampton struggled to create any (clear cut) chances, I can only remember Van Dijk's header and a ball from a set piece that Lucas half and half cleared from the goalline. Second half, we were the better team in brief spells after Benteke came on and again after Firmino came on, and only being pressed away completely after Benteke's goal (something that happens a lot after one team scores).

Playing the ball around at the back but not creating many chances isn't exatly what I'd call outplaying someone. All in all, it was a rather weak display from both sides. I won't say we were good or played attracting football or anything like that, but we definitely weren't outplayed imo.

Football writers seem to have a code that forbids them from watching football or being able to explain it better than a 9 year old.

I just think that they genuinely don't know much about tactics or strategy. Very few know much more than the average redcafe fan imo. They do know interesting stuff by virtue of being in the business but then they can't really tell it all either.

I mean, didn't they *have* to learn tactics to play at the top level?

When you look at how their first XI in full force would be, it really isn't a bad team at all. Benteke, Sturridge, Coutinho, Firmino, Henderson, Clyne are all quality players on their day if a coach manages to get the best out of them. Top 4 worthy IMO after City/United/Arsenal if Chelsea stays shit.

Not bad, but also not top4. Chelsea, Arsenal, City and United all have a stronger squad.

Overall, I can't help but agree.

I think our striker options (when fit) are better than all but City, but we're so far behind in midfield and have more weak links in defence than any of those 4 teams. Plus they all have better keepers than us, so yeah.
