Liverpool 2016/17 - Performance and chat thread.

It's just this seasons 'hitting the post most times' statistic.
You do know it's more important to have more shots in your opponents box and hit the post more, than actually winning games?
Except of course 3 of those 8 ended up in the back of the net. You just don't like the stat because it's a positive Liverpool one ! You would be happily gleaning satisfaction from it if it was say United against Liverpool. And since this is a Liverpool PERFORMANCE thread then worthy of mention for some.

In fairness I don't think he's using the stat to defend anything. Its just an exciting start of the season or Liverpool fans, and we'd probably be sharing the same sort of stat had we played a big fixture and won.
In a nutshell.

Other players will not have the same impact on shot on targets within the area as Chambers and Holding because they are specifically the two players who are supposed to prevent them.

To be fair, this is not the first time they score many goals in an away game. It has to do more with their tactics and performers than with Arsenal's CBs, IMO. Scored 6 vs Koeman's Soton, 5 vs Norich, 4vs Citeh, 3 vs Chelsea.

Think our match at Burnley on Saturday might give us a better indication of where we're at. We obviously excel at matches that are wide open, but I feel this game will be a totally different kettle of fish. They lost at home to Swansea at the week-end so they'll fighting like mad (or they should be) to get something from the game. I can see them adopting a cautious approach & not leaving us many avenues to exploit our attacking prowess. I can also see us dropping points at Turf Moor.

LFC had 8 shots on target from within Arsenal's 18 yard box on Sunday. The most any team has had in the last 10 years v Arsenal

To be fair that's pretty impressive, even more impressive when you consider that Liverpool only had 7 shots on target in the entire game (Source: BBC, WhoScored).

Assuming one of those was Coutinho's goal, that means Liverpool got 8 shots on target from within the box, from just 6 shots on target the whole game.

Truly unbelievable stat. Literally unbelievable.

There are a number of sources - not just OPTA. However I'm checking to see where the guy I got that from sourced it. I doubt someone just made it up for fun !

No Europe is a nice advantage for them. Don't think they'll get top 4 though, their defence is awful.

It has been yes, but with a new goalkeeper and centre half not yet fit to play it's a little early to judge (something we seem to keep saying on here).
It's too convenient to just keep saying that, we signed a goalie & 2 new defenders in the window, so they need time to play and get used to the league.

Couldn't agree more. That's precisely the sort of game I'd expect us to drop points in.

It's going to be close I think regarding the top four. I suppose it depends on what the sides around us do as well but the defence is an issue. We're not going to be able to score four or more goals every week and eventually you'll get to a game where you need to grind out a 1-0.

1. I wouldn't glean any satisfaction from this stat if it was about United.
2. It seems you made it up anyway

Heh, it could well be. After a great euphoric game we tend to perform like shite.

Also, sign a left-back already, FFS. We're not out of money, are we? This is getting silly now.

I think better organised teams will not allow liverpool in, but? a few things Liverpool have yet to learn, learn to control the game and think with their heads, not looking for another goal especially when its away from home, you think 4 1 drain arsenal mentality has the game goes on but allowed them back in the game Klopps got to get his team more organised, has games against arsenal defending like that cannot be allowed, other teams will look at that weakness.

I like Klopp. It looks like Moreno is his mutant hairy daughter in this picture.

Ridiculous to assume anyone would make up a stat like that (as I said there are more sources than just OPTA) but I see it amused you, small minds and all that. Did I also make up the 3 goals from inside the box ? Guess I dreamt that one.

Yeah, it did amuse me. Though it didn't surprise me. Just another Liverpool fan whose full of shit.
Perhaps you could provide the link to the amazing stat of 8 shots on target from inside the box??

If you fecking sell Bentekke for 30 mln pounds you should get investigated for money laundering or pacting with devil or some other shit.

Crystal Palace have reached an agreement with Liverpool to sign Belgium striker Christian Benteke.

The clubs have agreed a fee of £27m plus add-ons that could see the deal rise to above £30m.

As far as I'm concerned that is a fantastic deal for us and we have absolutely robbed palace for a player who had the season he had. It was a shocking season from him bar one or two decent monents. However if he can regain his Villa form he is capable of getting Palace upto 7/8th regulary imo. Does anyone think our transfer business is done? A left back really is needed, I mean it is fecking obvious right?

I wanted to believe that Albie had nobbled Mane but it didn't happen like that really did it?

£ 30M (ish) for Benteke is good, gone to Palace, up to £32M according to some sources. Selling players is going quite well price-wise.

Ah, right. Thanks Rafa. Good info. Be interesting to see how Benteke gets on at Palace. They've swapped him for Bolasie essentially, isn't it, from a Palace point of view.

I had heard the initial rumours of Mane being out 3 months, were an exaggeration. That would have upset Albie, I'm sure. He's having a rough time.

Yes he is. He got slaughtered by the media at the pre-match conference yesterday, Klopp was on the back foot trying to divert attention away from him. I feel sorry for Moreno but he does need replacing, if only to get him out of the spotlight to regain his confidence.

Overall a good deal for Palace. Benteke will score a lot of goals there and keep them far from relegation trouble. Bolasie scores very few goals and they could afford to let him go. Not sure what Everton are going to do though if they lose Lukaku.

I don't think we will sign anyone else, and Klopp was pretty defensive of Moreno yesterday. We didn't need the Benteke money to buy anyone anyway and the only real solid concrete link for left back was Chilwell, who may not even have been first choice.

We wanted to sign the midfielder Dahoud from Borussia Monchengladbach but that deal went cold ages ago.

Haven't worked out the net spend but we will effectively have spent virtually nothing this summer with all the outgoings.

Talk of Alberto to Valencia for £4m now being finalised. Very good deal for Valencia, Alberto is well suited to La Liga.

I guess the upside of not signing Dahoud for big money is we might get to see Grujic regularly this season. Also I'm one of his biggest critics and I don't think he is even as good as Can, but Henderson did perform adequately against Arsenal especially second half so maybe Klopp just wants to see what his players can do before spending big money on a CM. I have a feeling the one game a week will have a 13/14 like effect this season.

With the exception of Wijnaldum, I think the signings 'pool made make sense, I will go as far to say that they are a LB away from having a decent team. The lack of Europe is also a big blessing for a side that plays with such high intensity.
I just cant for the life of me understand why Klopp hasn't signed a replacement for Moreno yet. Maybe he thinks Gomez can become first choice there?

I think he has Milner and Gomez as his first and second choice LBs. They just both happen to be out at the moment.

I'm kinda rooting for Liverpool now that they signed Wijnaldum. Feyenoord youth product and such a friendly bloke. Never thought he'd make it this far to be honest. Might have to look up the lyrics to YAWN.

Totally different players. I'm very excited to see what Grujic can do though, a very exciting and combative attacking midfielder who's still only very young.

Its a pragmatically sensible squad. Apart from Coutinho and Sturridge (when not injured), their squad has no top players per se. But they all buy into Klopp's system and gegenpressing, and together they make a pretty exciting team, as we saw the other day.
