Liverpool 2014/15 | WARNING: Contains strong amounts of Scouse nonsense

I'm talking about your team/squad as it stands (regardless of 2 games or 10 games). Of course the window isn't closed yet ..........
Well no, not 'regardless of 2 games or 10 games'. It's very much 'after 2 games' that you've judged that our players aren't good enough. Which is fine, but it is, in fact, a judgment based on very little.

So having seen these players many times over last season and these two games, it's based on very little ? I've judged they are not good enough because that is how they have performed both last season and so far in this. I reckon 12 months is enough time to form a valid opinion on their current state. Which is exactly what I said above but you chose to ignore the ... last season and instead focus all your attention on 'and this .. so far'.

I think we are now at 40 games for these players.

Of course, and there's a couple I've given up on notwithstanding any kind of context. But you also have 3 players coming in (Rojo, Herrera and Di Maria) who will be key, a new coach and a new system, with certain players, notably in CB, who weren't given proper runs in the team until now and/or are very young and who shouldn't really be judged on what's been done last year. The context is radically different, and saying Utd's squad isn't good enough at this point is in my opinion too hasty a judgment, given how things could turn out and how different the context is at the club this year.

Ok, time will tell if this is a blip or a significant malaise.

I think our squad depth now is pretty terrific:

GK: Mignolet, Jones
Fullbacks: Moreno, Manquillo, Johnson, Flannagan, Enrique
Centrebacks: Lovren, Sakho, Agger, Skrtel, Toure, Coates
Midfield: Gerrard, Henderson, Allen, Can, Lucas
Attacking Midfield: Sterling, Coutinho, Markovic, Lallana
Forwards: Sturridge, Balotelli, Lambert

Only a handful in there who aren't good enough to start for us when on form (Jones, Kolo, Coates, Lambert) and have in fact done so regularly in the past springled with a few new uncertains that we are nevertheless hoping will strengthen the starting XI or be in the regular 15 (Manquillo, Can, Markovic).

Compare to this under Roy four years ago:

Feck me. About four players there who has a chance of even making the 25 man squad now. So poor they can't even line up for photo.

Balotelli (last 2 seasons) vs Sturridge vs Suarez

Some Pros and some Cons ... but the cons are nowhere near as bad as is being made out. Note since Balotelli was subbed on/off a lot at Milan I've compiled this over a 90 minute metric not per game or total.

And I've pinched this one from another site :

Note his stats at Milan vs RvP's at United - very similar in goals per minutes played, goals per game and in assists.

Note he was third in assists in the Milan team (league only) for the first season he was there (4) and followed that up by finishing joint-top in assists in the team (league only) with Kaka (6) last season.

Feck me, that is one hideous looking starting lineup as well. Looks like at least 5 brothers in that team.

I love how the five baldies are grouped together in that pic.

@Rafateria - Balo's goal scoring stats are somewhat inflated by his penalty record, which might not mean much at Liverpool. He hasn't shown the ability of a 20 a season striker yet, though obviously he has the potential to.

Who are the players between Meireles and that Greek CB? I remember that (possibly Serbian) left winger who couldn't get a game, no idea who the other two are.

In that pic Kyriagos is asking Jovanovic : "Are you alright there mate ? Do you maybe want to come this way a bit, swap with N'Gog like" ?

Yep. 5 pens from 21 goals in all matches last season. However still pretty decent and maybe a bit more to come in an attacking side like ours rather than a team on the ropes like Milan.

In which universe did Van Persie only score 57 goals for Arsenal?

Jovanovic, Ngog and Poulsen. Got a little sick in my mouth.

That line-up is like a Who's Who of drastic failures over the past five years. Incredible to see them all in one competitive lineup.

Kyrgiakos (liked him though) and Konchesky in defence. Midfield of Spearing, Shelvey and Poulsen (FFS). Jovanovic and Meireles bombing down the wings. N'gog up front. Glen Johnson was easily the best player going forwards in that team. Deadly.

Missing Joe Cole though.

Balotelli signed - can be added to squad list now I guess.
He will wear number 45.

I'm not.

Markovich. Fck yeah. I jizzed when he swooshed the hair behind his ears. Cannot wait to see him start against Spurs!!

Had two or three nice touches tonight then vanished for the rest of the game. Can looked lumbering too. Funny he got away with his dive too.

Well beaten by a team who will finish above you again.

Any concern or re-assessing of goals for any of the 'pool supporters on here after that?

Look at all the bald ones. They look like some prison team. And who is that guy on the right looking for.

No new concerns, same criticism as always - we're defensively poor no matter who plays and I'd have to lay the blame at the coaching staff/Rodgers. Too easy to blame the players.

How would they have fitted in Balotelli tonight?

Drop a CM? Shift Sturridge out wide?

Have no idea how pool reckon they are gonna challenge in Europe with that midfield.

Can,Lucas,Gerrard,Allen are nothing special alright. Henderson is a work horse and a valuable player to have in a team I suppose. Still wouldnt be excited to sign a player of his level.

We're not touching City this season. And certainly not finishing above Chelsea this time either.

Markovich didn't disappear, the passes to him did. His first touches remind me of Saurez when he first came. Very assured and incredibly adept.

Going backwards. Nice to hear from our point of view.

Is Barney in meltdown. 3 hours ago they were going to win the league. Not so sure after that performance. If you can't score 3-4 a game, you won't win much. You have to stop them going in your net.
