Liverpool 2014/15 | WARNING: Contains strong amounts of Scouse nonsense

Except the other dickhead is both a worse footballer and a worse allround team player than the cannibal. In terms of a continuation of the model which worked so well for 'em last season, it's sheer deterioration.

If Brenton intends to simply replace the cannibal with the fireworks expert, then I wouldn't worry at all. Sadly, though, I suspect Brenton is actually slightly more clever than that.

No doubt he's a worse footballer and he's probably more of a liability too but he is capable of moments of brilliance, certainly a better option than heading into a season with Sturridge alone.

You can't have a sensible discussion with a lad that has Sturridge above Van Persie, they're not even in the same bracket, long long way to go.
As I said, normally RVP is above him but when you are honest, for the past year and a half, Sturridge has been better. He scores goals, creates chances for others, creates his owns, holds the ball, makes runs, he does it all.

Last season VP carried a few injuries and circumstances were a little odd, shall we say.
Van Persie can hand you a league title with his ruthlessness, he also dragged a wilting Arsenal into 4th spot for many seasons.

If your honest you would swap VP for Sturridge in a heartbeat, he's proven he can do it up top on his own, he's better technically, he's better in the air, he's not reliant on pace, he's proven at the highest level, he's not bottled a World Cup, his celebrations classier even his hair is better ffs.
Sturridge is younger and could come close but for this moment no.

Oke your first arguement, and Sturridge has proven he can do it better with teammates, RVP best seasons have been when he were the lone striker and players were working for him, Sturridge has proven that he can be a great partner but when Suarez was suspended he proved that he can also do it on his own. RVP is technically better, but Sturridge uses his technique better imo, he uses it to dribble past players, to put defenders on the wrong foot, and its not like he has a Valencia'esque technique, check some of his goals from last season. Sturridge pretty much has proved himself at the highest level (PL) since his Liverpool arrival.

Yet much of Liverpool's attacking threat is based around pace. Which is why Sturridge has thrived.

For all the quality United have with RvP, Rooney and Mata it is about as slow as anything in the top 5.

Balotellis languid style might not be a great thing then, to add to a list of negatives for him.
He is quick but his style isn't.

@Sammyjunn the Premier league is not the highest level, coming 2nd in it certainly isn't.

Rodgers: Markovic will come into the squad, he's looked excellent in training

Rodgers: Flanagan, Lallana, Enrique and Agger all out

Rodgers: Moreno will be in the squad, he comes in fit, he gives us balance, he will pick up the pace very quickly

I'm happy today if this is true. Would love to see Rossiter given time now, he is mature beyond his years.

Sportmediaset claim Napoli have agreed terms with Liverpool for Lucas Leiva on loan with option to buy.

According to the Italian sources, a deal has been struck with the Reds to reunite Lucas with his old Coach Rafa Benitez.

Napoli would pay €2m to have the Brazilian midfielder on loan for one season, plus an option to buy for a further €10m in July 2015.

It’s reported the Partenopei definitively moved in for Lucas after MarouaneFellaini suffered an injury, making the Manchester United man a less appetisingprospect.

He’ll replaced Blerim Dzemaili, as the Swiss international is widely expected to join Milan this summer for €3m.

What's up with Enrique?

I so can't wait to see Markovic.

Exactly, only Barcelona and Real Madrid can meet your (and Fellaini's) standards.

So, since this thread is about the squad, here's where we currently stand. Romero I am reading may be back on again to complete the transfer window. Shame we are missing another DM but that's OK - it can wait until January ;)

I've also put them in order of strength (obviously IMO and making some strong assumptions) :

Goalkeepers
Mignolet
Romero (possibly)
Jones

Full Back (LB)
Moreno
Enrique
Flanagan
Johnson

Full Back (RB)
Manquillo
Flanagan
Johnson

Centre Backs
Lovren
Sahko
Skrtel
Toure
Agger (I've put him here because I think he will be sold)
Coates (to go on loan)
Ilori (to go on loan)

Central Midfielders (playing a 2 or 3)
Gerrard
Henderson
Can
Allen
Rossiter
Lucas (I expect to go on loan / be sold to Napoli as rumoured)

Wide Midfielders and #10
Sterling
Coutinho
Lallana
Markovic
Ibe (to go on loan)

Strikers
Sturridge
Balotelli
Lambert

It looks alright. Definitely top four material. Not sure it has the strength to match Chelsea and City though. I think Liverpool will really be aiming for the next 2-3 years though. Once Sterling, Coutinho, Markovic etc really develop.

Spoken like a true Manc ;)

As in, it has great squad depth, the players in the squad are all decent, and a good balance.

Well, compared to the European powerhouses. The squad feels average to me. Reminds me of us a couple years ago, but without Fergie at the helm.

But if you decide to view my point from that of the opinion of a Deluded United Fan who has to be enlightened from his constant red-tinted belittling of his rival clubs - I'm of the opinion that the United squad is shit and I wish we had Liverpool's squad to build up from, rather than the shit we currently have.

But I stick with what I have said before, the Liverpool squad looks very average to me.

That's fair assumptions. Your view is common among journalists (specially London based ones) too. For example, nearly all Evening Standard journalists - yes nearly ALL - every single one of them (the good ones Dan Jones and Dan Roan didn't offer their opinions on this clowned up poll) - had the following to finish top four:

1. Chelsea
2. City
3. Arsenal
4. MANCHESTER UTD

All based on assumption that LvG is the boss despite Utd not buying anyone of note and Liverpool having sold Suarez. Anyway...back to planet Earth.

I assume you like using the word assumption and but hate that idea.

I implied "ill-educated assumption from monkeys who have not seen a game of football before" in that one word. :)

Fair enough. However there is still considerable bias in your assumptions because this Liverpool Squad (bar the loss of Suarez) is substantially better than the one which ran City to the wire last season (cue calls of 'over-acheived' 'but that was with Suarez' etc. etc.). In every single dept. Basically you are a classic case of an opposition fan under-rating a despised rival's players (we do the same to be honest - though I think we've got it right both last season and this .. so far).

Liverpool weren't average last season in any shape or form, playing some of the most thrilling football seen for seasons in the PL, and both the team (in most positions) and the squad have improved. Consider this was our team for much of last season (not the formation exactly but this is according to the most starts per player) :

Johnson.....Skrtel.....Agger......Cisshoko

.................... Gerrard
.................................. Lucas

Henderson ..... Coutinho ......... Sterling

........... Sturridge.........Suarez

And Moses and Aspas the best we had on the bench !

And now it's this (look at the bench) with so many more options and possible formations (not everyone will agree with the players / formation but that's mine) :-

Manquillo .....Skrtel.....Lovren......Moreno

.................... Gerrard

Henderson ..... Coutinho ......... Sterling

........... Sturridge.........Balotelli

Sakho, Johnson, Flanagan, Enrique, Lallana, Can, Allen, Markovic, Lambert

The new players would need time to gel with the team, and won't necessarily be successes either. Even so, your squad is definitely 4-5 good players ahead of United in terms of squad balance, depth and quality in midfield and defence right now.

What, as in after two games?
