Liverpool 2014/15 | WARNING: Contains strong amounts of Scouse nonsense

We've got a 5 point advantage over Liverpool - I'd be seriously peeved if we pissed that away.

They've gone on a good run of form, but I'm still not overly concerned. United should be looking to overhaul Southampton to finish third. Worrying about fourth shouldn't even be on our agenda.

Basically this. We need to worry about moving ahead instead of looking over our shoulders and worry about Liverpool.

Just seen their next 14 odd games in all competitions.

They will be nowhere near us in a couple of months time. Their easier games are congested by cup matches while they also have to face:

West Ham - H
Everton - A
Tottenham - H
Southampton - A (3 days after Besiktas)
(Besiktas Away 4 days later)
Man City - H (3 days later)
Burnley - H (3 days later)
Swansea - A (Potential Europa game 2/3 days before)
United - H (Potential Europa game 2/3 days before)
Arsenal - A (After international break I think - Sturridge injured)
Newcastle - H

What a fixture list for that little squad

Dont forget that they're almost certain to get past Bolton at home this weekend, so add another random FA Cup fixture on (i think) 7th March.

I'd be disappointed if we weren't double digits points clear after the next 5 games. We have the following games in the league:

Man Utd v Leicester
West Ham v Man Utd
Man Utd v Burnley
Swansea v Man Utd
Man Utd v Sunderland

They have:

Liverpool v West Ham
Everton v Liverpool
Liverpool v Tottenham
Southampton v Liverpool
Liverpool v Man City

They'll do very well to get 6-7 points, whilst we should be looking at around 12.

Add into that the fact that they have a more difficult FA Cup game than us, two extra games v Chelsea and two European matches vs Besiktas (the away one sandwiched between So'ton away and City at home) during that period and you can see their squad capitulating.

I like the bold predictions. :D The next five league games will definitely be exciting no doubt about it.

Origi staying at Lille according to all the reliable journalists now.

The fact that there was even a possibility this was going to happen seems like another reason to justify hiring someone to handle transfers and let Rodgers focus on coaching.

Another good performance to build off of. Don't think anyone had a poor game on our team. Lucas for MotM, I reckon. He's been fabulous since returning to the side. He and Henderson play so well together.

You've got your tail up massively in recent weeks. Agree on the Lucas MOTM comment. Was fantastic (difficult not to like too). Really impressed by Moreno too; much more alert.

Coutinho, Sterling and Markovic were great today.

He's found a way in this 3 at the back system to fit his quick forward players in the central areas.

Before with the 4-2-3-1 you had 3 number 10s being marked out of games easily, but now there is an overload in the middle which opens up the pitch for wing backs. I think this is what Van Gaal aims for with his 3-5-2 but we haven't got the players with the pace, nor quick decision making to pin the opposition back.

He's sold his soul to Sky.

They all do lads. Wait til the Gooners start seeing this with Henry.

I'd go Coutinho but Lucas was great too. As you say though everyone was good tonight. Deserved to win with that performance, made Chelsea look like shit.

Coutinho is a wee magician. I think he's more likely to leave in the next five years than Sterling is.

It's brilliant to see most of our new boys shove the words of all their critics back down their throats.
Indeed. I think you could argue it's taken a tad too long to find a solution for the new buys but, Lovren apart, the new signings look like they'll contribute really well.

Oddly, Lovren seemed the safest bet of all the buys.

I don't think Lambert (recent goal aside) or Balotelli will make it either. Lallana is looking better though, as are the others.

Yeah, I don't see Lambert or Balotelli making it either. I think Lambert and Lovren will still probably be here next season. I'm okay with that as long as Lambert staying and Origi returning wouldn't stop us from buying another striker of Sturridge's class.

Moreno and Markovic have insane workrate too.

Their general play is looking pretty again, great speed of passing/pressing on show, very easy on the eye, lots of decent chances. Not just based on tonight, they've been improving for a couple of months. Even Skirtel has had a couple of games where he hasn't been a liability.

Still, for all the chances being created, they're not converting many and while tighter at the back, they'll concede against quality without necessarily scoring enough to make up for it. Be interesting to see if Sturridge can make an impact to the extent and speed Liverpool must be hoping for. Or if the wheels come of entirely in midfield/defence (again). Race for top four 4 is going to be interesting now them, Spurs and Arsenal are showing no few signs of improvement and Soton aren't dropping off.

Moreno and Markovic have insane workrate too.

I wonder how they will cope with talented players running at them?

Next week at the Bridge will be very interesting... I know Moreno has the question marks over his defensive game, so I can assume that the Right Winger/Forward Markovic, playing at RWB will also have these question marks.

Pool played well last night & Gerrard really should have put that chance away. But it was clear Chelsea were happy enough to sit back and take a draw while Liverpool went all out for the win. Mikel in for Oscar was textbook Mourinho in a first leg. I'll be amazed if they don't finish the job at the Bridge.

Having said that, it's been quite a turnaround for Rodgers in recent weeks. Talk of the sack has long gone and they're building some momentum, with Sturridge still to come in. It's a strange one because the likelyhood of pool ending up with no trophy again and missing out on top 4 is still quite high but they're finally playing some good football again.

There's no denying for all his Brent comparisons and love-in for Gerrard, Rodgers is the man for getting a team, any team, playing some brilliant football. With whatever resources he's bought or been landed with. Whether its Suarez and Sturridge, or Borini and Sterling.
I've been shouting for ages to play Lucas in with Hendo, but Rodgers tested everyone's patience. What a waste of 4 months, giving everyone unnecessary head-starts in the race for CL spots. At least he's seen sense just in time. We're not playing abnormally good football, we're playing football like we should have been. Like we did last season. Like I was expecting from September.
I believed in Brendan (except for his Gerrard love-in), now it seems Brendan believes in Brendan too. :) (See location)

They were excellent last night - but still failed to win. The work rate and determination of their players is something our squad should be looking at. They'll be right up there at the end of the season vying for the CL spots.

Liverpool will beat West Ham and Tottenham, they should be able to get points against Southampton and given Everton current form I won't be surprised if they win there either.

We should win all our home games but I fear we will drop something at West Ham or Swansea. I don't think we will be more than 3 points better than them in points total over these 5 games, they also have a home game against us they could win to close the gap. 5 points is nothing, we were 10 ahead at one point. They are our rivals for top 4.

Liverpool can easily drop points in every single one of those games. You're right about us though West Ham away will be interesting, but the Swans without Bony I doubt will be an issue.

Bony didn't score either of their goals at Old Trafford and they still won, I'm not convinced at all about this game.

I think the West Ham game will be interesting. The likes of Carroll and Downing will have a point to prove and Liverpool's defence is still by far their weakest area. I wouldn't be surprised if they drew that game and came out of the period with 1 win, 3 draws and a loss.

We need to improve our away form and I'd say anything less than 12 points would be a disappointment. That'd be 11 points ahead with 11 games remaining, which would render our game at Anfield quite redundant provided we didn't collapse.

Obviously all theoretical but even 8-9 points would be a great cushion.

They've been poor lately if you ask me, but I get your point. If we turn up we should be ok, but we haven't exactly done a lot of turning up this season.

Our away form has been so poor that I am never sure with these games. Leicester have won 2 league games since they put 5 past us, in 17 or 18 attempts. Even the last few wins away from home were painful to watch. I won't be far from truth if I say that Spurs away was our best performance on the road in the season.

Liverpool's best chance at the champions league next season is through the europa league, think that will become apparent by the end of next month, if it's not already.
