Liverpool 2014/15 | WARNING: Contains strong amounts of Scouse nonsense

Casillas plays in La Liga where lumping balls into the box is less common while Barthez was an exceptional talent whose height used to cause issues. He used to have to punch almost every corner or cross away and there was numerous shots from distance a bigger goalkeeper would have got to. How's that going to go down with Rodgers wanting to retain possession?

If this is true it's hilarious and highlights the problems with your scouting.

Yeah, I agree with that, I did say in my first post he would struggle here because he's not so big.. Was just pointing out that there are exceptions, although Ryan is nowhere near as talented as Casillas or Barthez of course.

He's a shit hack.
Never anything special in the A-league and continuously overrated for the Socceroos.
I doubt you've seen much of him the last two years at Club Brugge though. He has improved massively since arriving here, I didn't rate him either at first but he's a difference maker for them, against Torino in the Europa League for example. However, I don't think he's ready nor good enough to be our first choice goalkeeper.

Ayre has confirmed that they will consider taking Gerrard back on loan.

Echo are saying Enrique wants to stay.

Guess Enrique will be the next Borini, unwanted but refuses to leave.

I'd be happy enough with that. I'd rather he played than Borini or Lambert, and I'm sure the minutes are there for him. Whether he's given them is another matter though.

Adam Lallana could be set for a surprise return for Liverpool FC this weekend – as Brendan Rodgers reiterated Mario Balotelli is going nowhere this month.
Lallana was expected to be out for a month after limping out of the 2-2 New Year’s Day draw against Leicester City with a thigh injury. But the England international has responded well to treatment and is expected to return to training on Friday.

And if Saturday’s Premier League trip to Aston Villa proves too soon, Rodgers is convinced Lallana will be available for the Capital One Cup semi-final first leg against Chelsea on Tuesday.
“We are monitoring Adam,” said the Reds boss. “He is ahead of schedule in terms of his rehab and we are hoping he can train tomorrow. “If he’s not available for the weekend certainly against Chelsea he will be.”

The news that will have Utd fans shitting glass. Sturridge is back in training. Knowing our luck he'll probably injure himself getting changed.

As for Ibe, I think its brilliant news. He needs to be playing the Brendan way and getting Prem experience now. Origi too. I want them ready for next season now. Not in pre-season. Both will get plenty of games, they're hardly being held back by Suarez, Ronaldo and Bale in the squad.

And yet still haven't won more than 2 games in a row this season.

#LFC have gone 65 Premier League games without defeat after leading at half-time (W54, D11).

I think I remember seeing a stat on Sky recently which pretty much proved that the reverse of that is also true. That once they go behind, they go on to get far less points than the other top teams do when they fall behind. Can't find that stat now though.

Suso off to Milan on a free too. I thought he was really highly rated and did well last year at Almeria.

He's awesome on Football Manager (not that that means a whole lot), but to let him go for nothing seems like a huge waste.

We tried to get him to sign a new contract but I heard he had stipulations re. playing time etc. which we were not prepared to accede to. Pity, there's an excellent player in there that Milan will likely benefit from. His main issue though is that he was still considered a little too slight, weak, for the PL. Italy will suit him.

Liverpool XI: Mignolet, Skrtel, Can, Sakho, Markovic, Moreno, Lucas, Henderson, Sterling, Coutinho, Borini.
Substitutes: ‎Ward, Enrique, Lambert, Manquillo, Lallana, Ibe, Williams.

Balo is ill apparently.

Cnuts getting a bit of momentum now, and Sturridge is coming back too. Currently the 2nd most in form team in the league behind Southampton now.

Shame we messed up our 10 point lead so easily.

Stolen but true : Without our 50+ goal SAS we are just 8 points worse off than we were at this point last season.

They were pretty average until January last year. Only then did they hit top form till the end of season.
Top of the league at Christmas. Results were still strong before January. It was performances that took off.

That's not true in the slightest. Sturridge had a brilliant start to the season and Suarez came in and hit the ground running after the league cup game too. We were top of the league at Christmas largely down to them. It was true of Gerrard who didn't find his brilliant form until January and also of Sterling who, again, didn't find his best form until December.

From my count Suarez and Sturridge had 28 goals between them before January. Suarez missed the first few games with a suspension and Sturridge had nearly two months of injury problems.

The only period of time when Sturridge and Suarez weren't at their best was the last four or five games where they both noticeably looked a bit tired (even so they still scored in this period).

At the halfway point you had two more points than us despite having an on fire goal scorer. So yeah you were pretty average.

We were in the top four and playing well. We weren't average at all. Anyway, the argument wasn't about the team, it was about Suarez and Sturridge.

We can laugh all we want but they are close..

Their last five games have been against four relegation candidates and a mid table team. Both us and arsenal have had harder fixtures so they've moved closer. Youd expect that to happen.

Burnley (a)
Swansea (h)
Leicester (h)
Sunderland (a)
Villa (a)

United have played all these fixtures barring Leicester at home - how many did they win?

Point is, pointing at Liverpool's recent fixtures as a cause of the good form is little misleading. This league isn't easy and lots of banana skins exist. Any good run over 5 or 6 games is valuable.

Its a bit like watching two cars with a small gap between them in Formula 1. When the car in front goes into a turn, the car behind suddenly catches up to just a few metres back. Then, when the car in front leaves the bend, it streaks off and leaves the other car behind.

It looks like one car keeps catching up, before the other is pulling away. In truth the time gap between the cars is exactly the same all the time. Both cars have to go through a slow section and a fast section. Looking only at the distance between them gives a totally false image of whats happening. Its a mistake that football fans make too.

Having had a run of 5 games that is as easy as you'll face all season, while we had a somewhat tricky run that included two top four challangers and the fabled "away day at Stoke", you would expect Liverpool to catch up on points.

On the other hand your next five games are West Ham, Everton, Spurs, Southampton, Man City. Ours are Leicester, West Ham, Burnley, Sunderland, Swansea. If both teams continue with similar levels of performance, United will pick up more points than Liverpool.

Of course you may genuinely improve and we may get worse. If you get as many points as us over that period, then you'll actually have outperformed us. But you really can't assume that because you did better during an easy spell than we did during a tough spell that it means that much.

We need to get a big gap on them and Spurs in the next month. Looking our fixtures in March, very tough.

I think the Europa league will have an effect on both clubs. Both have looked better since the European break. So that should work in our favour.

A lot depends on Sturridge I think. If they get him back and playing well and beat some teams around them like us, City at home or Arsenal/Southampton away then I think they will finish top four. The race for 3rd and 4th is going to be very exciting.

Relegation candidates or not they're just 5 points behind and I hope they'll turn to shit again soon. :)

We've got a 5 point advantage over Liverpool - I'd be seriously peeved if we pissed that away.

They've gone on a good run of form, but I'm still not overly concerned. United should be looking to overhaul Southampton to finish third. Worrying about fourth shouldn't even be on our agenda.
