Liverpool 2014/15 | WARNING: Contains strong amounts of Scouse nonsense

Probably the first time I've said this for a while (nothing against you personally...just how it goes) but I unanimously agree.

You can't unanimously agree all by yourself, Bob. Unless you've got loads of those made-up Manc mates, that is. ;)

Stick to the deal...we'll give you a slice now as long as you promise to give us a slice nearer May. :)
Ok it's a deal, but you can't blame us, we're just basing it on the fact that you utterly bereft of any idea in attack and defence, add in a series of managerial cockups in the summer and now in games and it's not a wild prediction that you still have the humble pie in May.

It seems no one wants 4th place this year.

Liverpool are playing utterly sh!t, we're not getting many good results, yet we're still a point off them even if we lose today!

Take it with a pinch of salt, but *apparently* we want Cabaye on loan in January and Schneiderlin in the summer. We've also shown interest in Sergi Roberto.

From a twitter "itk" who was quite reliable in the summer.

Cabaye and Schneiderlin would be great for Liverpool's midfield tbh. Sergi Roberto is a bit meh from what I've seen of him but it could very well be due to the standard of the players he is playing amongst. I won't get too excited about it unless it's from a reliable source and not some twitter ITK.

Haha. Signing Sergi Roberto would just take the piss, he's as average as they come, no redeeming qualities.

It seems likely Bale will feature on Tuesday.

It would be just like us to leave Cabaye and Schneiderlin out of our plans to get Sergi.

How are you guys feeling about the match tonight? Excitement or fear?

You could be in for a hiding if Rodgers chooses to focus on Chelsea and the CL games against Basel and Ludogorets instead. I'll be putting my house on Toure getting a card if he starts tonight, he won't have the pace to deal with their attack.

Rumoured team : Mignolet, Johnson, Skrtel, Toure, Moreno, Henderson, Lucas, Coutinho, Lallana, Markovic, Lambert.

For me Chelsea at Anfield is a much more important game than this. Very few teams would expect to go there and come away with anything other than a thrashing .. we are not presently one of those teams.

If Gerrard is being rested then I'm in full agreement. I don't want him running his guts out vs RM when the home game against Chelsea is far more important to the team and the club as a whole and he's already had more minutes than I'd like this season (we've hardly been in a position to pull him with say 20-30 mins remaining in any match so far). Fully with BR on the PL being the priority.

I'm really not sure at all of that front line though (if the ITK's line-up is correct). Our best chances are going to come on the break. Lambert will do well to hold the ball up, but where does the scoring threat come from then ? Henderson, Coutinho ? Markovic seems to be our token 'pacey' attacker. Poor bugger. I'm guessing Stevie will get a run-out in the last 20 mins if the game is still close.
Allen should also be starting this game. I'd rest Coutinho for Chelsea and move Lallana inside. We'd then have our three most mobile and best suited to pressing midfielders on the pitch.

And why will Toure need pace when we are going to be pinned back for 80 mins ?

I know Lovren hasn't set the world alight but he's your only CB with any decent race, against a rapid RM team. Seems odd that he is the one who is dropped.

Like the last Madrid match, and the Swansea Carling Cup game, I can watch tonight without bricking it every second. So in a way, I'm a bit excited to see us line up without Gerrard and Lovren. Markovic is going to be a plank of wood tonight but he cost a lot so has to get some match practice in somewhere.

Toure is actually quite fast, always has been. Faster than Skrtel and Lovren anyway. But at his age Ronado will toy with him, as he would any defender. We're getting punished tonight whatever happens. To keep qualification in our hands I guess we have to hope Ludo and Basel draw. Ludo and Basel certainly helped us out two weeks ago (when Ludo beat Basel).

I have mixed feelings about this. Although it makes sense to rest our best players because the Chelsea game is much more important and we won't get a result anyway except for a miracle tonight, these are exactly the games that our team aimed to play last year. We finally achieve our goal and play CL football, but we're going to rest the likes of Sterling to again try to achieve a top four spot in the Premier League... I can't be certain of course, but wouldn't Sterling want to start himself? These are the games you dream about as a teenager, Real Madrid at Bernabeu.

I know it's the right thing to do and I'll be very happy with this strategy if we get a result against Chelsea on the weekend, but it just doesn't feel quite right.

If Rodgers had any sense he'd rest his entire XI pieces of shite he calls players and focus on the league match because there isn't a hope in hell that they'll get any sort of result against Madrid away. Either way I'm gonna enjoy Liverpool getting smashed if its their XI or u18s.

If Liverpool play a weakened team I won't really understand why. Dropping Gerrard is arguably actually strengthening it, so I won't read too much into it if he doesn't play, but Sterling should definitely start. Work so hard all of last year to get into the CL and then wave a big white flag before the kick off in your biggest group game? F*ck that. Not for me. If Utd did that I would be mortified.
Stranger things have happened than Liverpool getting a draw this evening, not even trying is scandalous.

I agree, why deny Sterling the chance to play in the Bernabeu. He's young and should be starting this type of game.

OK let's look at this another way :
1. Lovren has been worth a goal a game to the opposition so is dropping him for Toure so bad ?
2. Everyone has been saying Gerrard is not a DM and can't play 3 games a week yet he's played more minutes this season than any other player so is bringing in Lucas and sending Gerrard to the bench wrong ?
3. Sterling is probably the most contentious yet he's not looked great the last two matches and everyone says we should be aware of 'burning him out' yet when we do bench him everyone throw their hands up in disbelief !
Our 'best team available' got walloped 0-3 by RM at Anfield so what's wrong with changing things around and giving the dice a throw with something out of left-field (I have no idea what that means in actuality since I hate baseball but it's often used in these situations so I'm giving it a go*) ?

* tongue in cheek !

Another ITK has this one : Mignolet, Johnson, Skrtel, Touré, Moreno; Henderson, Lucas, Markovic, Lallana, Borini; Balotelli.

That doesn't really inspire confidence, those rumoured lineups.

A question though: isn't losing this game to Real tonight slightly risky if you're still aiming for qualification? (I'm not sure how things stand with Basel but couldn't it boost their chances?)

To be fair, it may be that the word has come down from on high that getting into next year's CL is more important than progressing in this year's. Not a dig at Rodgers or his team, because that is how many modern chairmen/owners think; to them, the game is only incidentally about glory.

Also, it's a reasonable model to build from. If Liverpool's issue is having cache in the market then you have to establish the club in the CL. One-off seasons in Europe don't set the foundations for future successes.

I think that arresting Liverpool's poor form before it becomes a slide is more important then three points in the context of a season. If you end up getting a hiding at Madrid then that dents confidence going into this weekend's game.

The reverse is also true, a decent result, or just a decent performance, against Madrid can help against Chelsea too.

Cant quite see the formation there. Would that be Lallana out wide in a 4-4-2? Has he played wide? Or 4-3-3 with Lallana in the middle 3?

Seems like at least one square peg in a round hole.

4-4-2 Diamond or a 4-3-3. Lallana would be fine in the middle three. Reckon he'd do well there like Coutinho.

We'll probably end up getting a result and then have this place full of 'Gerrard is shite', 'He's holding Liverpool back', etc.

I though Can looked good in pre season, why had he not really got a chance yet? Surely having another big, strong midfielder would take some of the load of Henderson.

Can will never be a standout player in the EPL. I said this long before the transfer happened. He is just not that good. At the very best he´ll turn into a defensive version of henderson, but even for that he still has a long way to go.

He's looked quite good in his cameos so far this season and in preseason he was very impressive. I think he, Moreno, Markovic, Manquillo, Origi and Lallana all will considered to be 'successful' signings for us.

I said when he was purchased and still to this day that Emre Can is Javi Garcia mark II. He isn't quick enough to be a top DM in the Premier League. He is clumsy and not technically good on the ball either

You also thought that Liverpool will "go again" this year and challenge for the title. So I obviously take your expertise only with a pinch of salt.

I watch one of your preseason games where he came on in the second half. Dont remember against who it was. He did absolutely nothing special whatsoever for 30 minutes (a couple of backward passes and one run) and rawk turned into a wankfest about his performance. I had no idea why, but I guess every player who joins liverpool has to be worldclass.

It all comes down to what you call a "successful signing". A player with similar qualities like Henderson, but slightly more defensive? Thats still possible. You are completely deluded, if you think that he turns out better than this.
