Liverpool 2014/15 | WARNING: Contains strong amounts of Scouse nonsense

The only way that our summer resembles Spurs is that we're buying a lot of players. Our squad was no where near as reliant on Suarez as Tottenham's was on Bale. We also have a wonderful young manager. Add to that the fact that we don't have a DoF buying players that the manager clearly didn't want. Sturridge's form has been better without Suarez too.

Rodger's is much better than Sherwood no doubt but we'll have to see on those signings. Like the Lambert and Origi signings, but I'm much more skeptical about the rest of them.

As always time will tell. The race for the top 4 spots will crowded yet again.

Remember, it was Villas Boas at the time so I'm not sure Barneys 'wonderful young manager' counts for much since he'll have had similar comments made about him numerous times.

I was referring to AvB.

I see. The way you wrote it you said the only thing that resembles is the 'buying lots of players' - it seemed like everything you said after that was meant to be classed as different.

You haven't yet bought close to the quality that Spurs did last summer, though perhaps they've shown that quality doesn't necessarily matter. Rodgers has been very hit and miss in the transfer window for you so far, more miss - it's going to be interesting.

Who will Luis bite?
Imagine if Suarez racially abuses, I mean uses a South American term of endearment, to wind up Glenn Johnson. I was going to say that the scousers would be so conflicted, but being scousers they would forget the save Suarez campaign and load on the bile.....

He'll score goals but feck me he doesn't fit the way you play at all.

Liverpool are in a bit of a conundrum. They need depth as well as quality. I'm not that impressed with their signings. A lot of them are value players rather than out right proven quality.

So now that Suarez is gone, who do they replace him with?

Really hope they don't go after James Rodriguez.

Will be interesting to see what they do now. Losing him is obviously a massive blow to their title chances but if they spend the money well then they could really add some depth to the squad.

:lol::lol::lol: Liverpool and James?

They'll be out of the top 4 without Suarez. They really blew their chance to win the league last season.

Their signings up to now have made a certain amount of sense as they really needed to add depth to their squad as much as first team quality. With Suarez gone though they now need to replace him with the sort of talisman who can lift their team to that other level. This will be particularly difficult as Suarez was important in terms of both creativity and goalscoring...

How much weight do Liverpool carry in the transfer market? They have the money and they have CL football. Is that enough to draw in the sort of quality they need? Not sure.

Some Liverpool fans like to suggest that we'll struggle to get players as we appear to be in decline but how sure will any prospective signing be that Liverpool's last season wasn't a flash in the pan? With Suarez gone how sure would you be that Liverpool aren't going to drop off this season? Liverpool now have to compete with the likes of City, Chelsea, Arsenal and ourselves for top quality but are probably the less attractive than any of those clubs. It'll be fun to see how they handle that.

A 4th place Arsenal beating you to Sanchez shows they don't have the biggest pulling power.

Looking at joining Liverpool now, Anfield is good but it's old and dated- days of former glory. Melwood training ground has to be the worse a long with Citys out of the big clubs. Also City are well under way to having an unbelievable complex.

Many players join a club to play with a certain player, Rooney seems to have that pull with us. Suarez definitely had that pull with them but he has gone and I doubt an ageing Gerrard has the same attraction now.

You can't doubt the fans and manager however, the fans are loyal and passionate whilst Brendan is up and coming playing really attractive football, promoting youth - this is why I see them signing players like Origi and Markovic. Talented youngsters who will be sold into Brendans ethos but I can't see the superstars coming.

Then the biggest pulling power is money, will they blow their wage structure apart for a player to come in, I doubt it. They gave Suarez the 200k because he had been at the club a while and shown he was clearly the best player and most important player in the team. They won't give that to a foreigner who has not proven themselves yet as it will have a detrimental effect on the squad harmony.

I agree with that. Liverpool really needs a talisman signing to move forward and I can't see them being able to achieve that unless something spectacular happens. Like a player falls out with their team at the end of deadline and everybody else has already spent fortunes, kind of like Mata to United.

Really difficult to see a reason for any world class player to go to Liverpool now as nobody knows how they will adjust to life without Suarez. I think most people consider it quite certain that it is going to be a rocky road selling their best players and not replacing him with similar quality. If they do play well half a season without Suarez I think they can attract two world-class players in the January window though as the risks will be gone for them.

I think Sanchez opting for Arsenal is the biggest symbol that Liverpool now have a problem.

With Suarez gone and looking at how they're spending the money, you'd have to say that they're firmly in Spurs territory now. I really thought they might have squeezed Sanchez out of Barcelona, but now he's off the list I don't see who's around that they're likely to get.

We are in decline?

Let us compare the starting 11, we all know our squad is stronger.

Let's do the players signed until this point, both clubs have money to spend therefore let's see what team looks more promising to these potential players.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if we take advantage of our easy fixtures at the start to build up a lead over them and be ahead of them all season.

Comparing Louis and Rodgers is a bit childish though, he's prob got 20 years done before Rodgers even started his career.

I think Liverpool's year next season relies on two things: How they reinvest the Suarez money and how their squad depth fares with at least 6 European games.

If they manage to balls up spending the Suarez money like Spurs did with the Bale money last season, and if they struggle with form during the group stages of the CL I'd definitely rate them to drop out of the top 4.

Saying that, even if they did spend the money wisely, they'd still need to replace(buy) 31+ goals if they want to challenge for the title next season and have a decent European push. Suarez had to go, but it's sure going to be tricky without him.

Soooo who'll be the next LFC player to be plucked away by the big boys? I reckon if Sterling has another good season there'll be some vultures hovering around.

After that the rest of the squad is pretty mediocre so they should be able to count on the likes of Hernderson and Coutinho long term. Which is more worrying than reassuring for them tbh.

With Suarez gone and Stevie G another year older, unless they get a striker with quality fire power they're looking at bumping back down to 5th or 6th in the league.

As much as you'd expect it to be like this, it often works out otherwise. We never directly replaced the goals we lost from Ronaldo and Tevez when they left the club, but we managed to score more goals the next season anyway. Not that Liverpool won't struggle without him - they undoubtedly will and they won't match last seasons goal tally - but it's usually not as simple as, "we've lost 31 goals, we need to replace them".

Sterling's a United fan apparently so that might be something to consider in the future. :D

They don't need to score over 100 goals again though, you can win the league with far less than that if you can also defend, that's where they should be more concerned about I would suggest.

Maybe they should stop stockpiling mediocre strikers and buy a competent DM (preferably one with decent studs in his boots) and the 3 other decent defenders they need then.

easy fixtures in the PL...yeah right oh...good luck with that one

I'd say their squad is now 20% weaker with the loss of Suarez, which ultimately could be the difference between a Champions League place and a Europa.

Just looking at their squad they'll probably have Gerrard, Sterling, Sturridge, Henderson and Lallana as first choice next season.

5 of the England team's front 6.

Oh dearie, dearie me.

I'd agree, if they improve defensively then they can definitely contend again. If not, they'll struggle since they obviously won't score as many as last season.
