You think Gakpo adapted better than Antony because he’s quicker?
We all know that Gakpo is not quick over 5 yards, and neither is Antony, but he is tall and strong, and allround a better baller than Antony who would be a better winger if he had more pace.

Shame that little flick he did for Garnacho didn't come. Never knew he had that in him.

For all the criticism he receives here, it's always noticeable with him that he has a tendency to produce at least one moment of excellent technique in some form of skill. The prior match that volley deserved to be a goal and right now it can be made a full highlight of nutmegs, "pisadas", passes, dribbles and many pieces of skill from his tenure so far in Man Utd. That vid would show also how many times those plays didn't end as it should in some sort of direct assist, a pre assist, a pass with advantage, etc. The day this team starts to actually perform more clever, better, more consistently, those plays would end producing better results.

He doesn't find himself near the opponent's penalty box often but he regularly produces brilliant and imaginative pieces of play in deeper areas, I'm not sure why that this flick came as a surprise for you.

Ditto, If I actually knew English and had a brain between my ears, I would have wrote your post

I know he's technically very good, he's very good at little flicks and turns on the ball deeper, maybe it was just because it was in the final third, just never really saw him doing something like in that area.

In the last few games he's been getting forward more and has been quick to decide to have some shots when he has the ball in the final third. This time he wasnt facing the goal so yeah he tried something elaborate that didnt work. And we havent seen good efforts from him when he does shoot, think most have been blocked. But you would hope to see something come from it soon if he keeps trying, a bit like Blind would come up with

Applies to every team on the planet. And all those highlights don't mean much when his defending is problematic as this is his main objective. I thought, he was alright today. But its nothing to write home about. Lets make sure, we keep the glowing reviews in check because it only increases the fall of those reality checks.

There is no glowing review, just an aswer regarding the subject in question and that him as a player has a tendency to do such stuff.
And I do not share your view at all regarding his defending, so let's beg to differ.

Fair enough. When somebody mentions "technical excellence" and personal highlights of technical feats then it reads as glowing to some folks. And about the defending, it isn't just my view, just read this exact thread here for the majority of this season. I think, it was good to see him being quite comfortable today against a rather aggressive and physical opponent. But on the other hand it was last years 3rd in the Czech league so...

Well, I do not agree with most that have been said in this thread, even some stuff in favor of Licha, so it wasn't just related to you man.
PD: I'm not saying he is right now at his best, nor anything similar, in fact I've talked about some aspects of his current situation, yet certainly I might be in the quite smaller camp here.

That two footed attempted stamp was fecking ridiculous. Shocking stuff!

His positives outweigh the negatives. Defence feels more secure with him on there.

It seems I was the only one who thought he didn’t perform well in that game. I noticed he struggled with defending his channel, and his tendency to not stay wider, particularly in the first half, contributed to our lack of cohesion and direction with the ball.

I don't like him as a wide CB at all, it exposes all of his weaknesses. He should be the middle CB or he should make way for someone else.

His place in the lineup should not be considered secure based on his performances this season, whether in a two man defense or three. His aggression also seemed to be on the controlled side till last season but he seems to be making a lot of dangerous and meaningless challenges that are likely to hurt the team at some point while also seriously injuring an opponent.

Worry for him in a back three. Takes away from his strengths and seems to amplify the weaknesses so far.

Mazraoui and Yoro will be playing more going forward, Licha will be a rotation player like Maguire

What a fecking pass.

We finally got season one Martinez today and it was wonderful. Was really good defensively and on the ball.

The pass was amazing and would have been even better if Amad didn’t hold his run but it worked out perfectly in the end.

That's what we need more of. We need 3 CBs who can pass like that to use the width of Amorim's formation to maximum effect.

The team needs a better midfield job, have more control, be more agressive. It's incredible the ammount of times the players let the ball to him to actually take time and decide a risky pass, it shouldn't be that constant or at least him doing it not from that deep.

When he's on his game, his ability on the ball eclipses our our CB options, and he looked back to his best defensively too.

Back to the player he used to be today. Took responsibility in possession and threaded a lot of balls through and obviously played that assist for the winner (and made a great cross for Mainoo before that). And pressed De Bruyne all game.

Excellent performance.

Think this was his best example of quality with the ball. Up against good players, even if they arent in the best form. Especially in the 2nd half he was constantly finding forward passes down the left side, played some great cross field passes over to Amad and Mazraoui and played the perfect pass for Amad to run onto for the winner. 2 key passes and 1 assist from the CB not bad at all - and 98.4% pass accuracy while he did it

He was very good on the ball, I still think he is the physicality weak link in the team and I'm not sure his other qualities are great enough to make up for it.

Since Amorim came in his passing ability has been spotlighted. He may be the best passer in the squad.

Seeing how wrong ETH was about Diallo, I’m wondering if he can play in midfield which ETH said he didn’t have the engine for.

Excellent today. The city players were afraid to go near him when he had the ball because he can play thru the defence.
