How long is the cruciate ligament knee injury is, i suppose it will take 8 months, so by August 25 he should be back.

If shaw stays fit he will fill in very well there but the bad news is Shaw and Martinez both unreliable now with injuries

That's a really sad outcome. I hope he recovers to a good level, but I think he'd be better suited in a less physically intense league. I don't see him playing for us again with these terrible injuries.

Given his past record, I reckon that's him done here sadly. Especially given the type of player he is/his position.

Another position we'll need to address in the summer.

really sad for him. He’s a World Cup winner and has two trophies with us-hope he comes back stronger.

Same injury twice in 2 year timeframe, same knee. Hate to say it, but he is now more likely to have Phil Jones's destiny.

He's young. Ruben won't use him every match. He will certainly use Dalot every match.
If Shaw becomes fit, he will take that LCB role until he's injured again or Ruben decides he's too fat.
I can't see Lindelof or Evans getting a sniff either.

Sucks, but hopefully he comes back as close to his best as he can. Highly unlikely though given it looks like the same knee as before.

I would be surprised if he wasn’t pretty much finished.

You’d imagine we will be planning with that in mind now. Need a first choice LCB in the summer

Can’t see Dalot there. Will be Yoro/Shaw/Lindelof/Heaven

6 to 8 mths I'd say depending on how bad it is to fix, surgeons are much better with them now , even saying that some players arnt the same when they come back. Roy Keane came out of his OK but SAF gave him a full year out if I remember. Just wish him the best he's needed, Shaw will have to stay fit now but that's not saying much you can see him getting injured again in training before he even starts a game.

It's another mess that Amorin needs to sort out .

I mean, I don't know how that would be physically possible.
I know it’s a serious injury but other than that I have absolutely no medical expertise on this subject and I’m just hoping at this point. Is it really absolutely impossible for him to come back and still be a top player?

Not impossible but unlikely I think.

Probably not, but there's no way it won't have an impact of sorts imo. He's so reliant on his physicality too, and in the EPL, it's hard to see how it doesn't hinder his game. Wishing him a speedy recovery but will be amazed if he's the same when back.

That’s really sad. For the club, we have plenty of options for those centre back roles but not one of them has the creativity of Martinez- and we’re a team that struggles on that front as it is.

Quite unlikely, whilst he doesn’t mainly rely on speed like certain cbs, one of his biggest defencies for us is defending that wide area in one on ones. If we’re still playing Back three by then, it’s hard to not see how that could potentially affect his game.

He’ll basically need a year to recover and there’s no guarantee he can get back to the same level of athleticism.

if it is indeed the same knee cant imagine you can count on him moving forward. Already was showing signs of this league being too much for him physically.

The one player who was looking decent in Amorims system. fecks sake.

I wish him well and hope he can come back stronger!

How do you know it’s the same knee? Or have you just made that up?

Will he be back before Mount? All kidding aside hated seeing him in tears like that. Hope it’s not as bad as it loomed.
Mount will likely get 50 separate injuries before he returns. His reaction said it all yesterday he knew straight away how bad it was. A big blow losing a lot of aggression in defence and while cover in defence there is no real like for like replacement for him.

He has torn his MCL and ACL - there are 4 ligaments in the knee, two run on the outsideso to speak - MCL and LCL and two are interior so to speak and cross the knee - ACL and PCL. In these twisting type injuries you get the trifecta - ACL, MCL and Meniscus. Now I hope he hasn't damage his meniscus as long term you will have more issues with that than rupturing your ligaments which can be repaired to retain the same functionality to a very high degree.

It would be a discussion with the Surgeon whether he has an autograft - use parts of his own body ( most common is the patella or hamstring) to create the two grafts or allografts from a donor (usually a deceased person achilles) - the deterimant in the success really boils down to the fixation method and the surgeons skill in positioning the new liagments correctly.

I would expect him to return to football assuming there is no cartilage damage in about 12 months. However he will lose some explosiveness - now how that transpires in his play is up for debate.

When it rains it pours for us. Team already in dire straits and our starting CB, one who has elite qualities on the ball will now be unavailable for a long time. Sad to see him crying when he was being taken off. No one deserves that. Unfortunately, that's his 3rd long term injury since joining us. Considering Lindelof and Evans will be off in the summer and now with this long term injury, I hope we will be planning to sign a new starting CB in the summer if not already.

Is that counting the time to regain match fitness and rebuild the lost muscle mass from not using the leg?
