In response to the reports that Bartomeu will step down if Messi publicly declares he's staying...

He's honestly not wrong there but bloody hell not City please  :wenger:

Do the right thing Bartomeu and feck off. We don’t need City signing Messi.

You love to fall for the PR charm of these mega money football clubs. First RB Leipzig now even City. "Great infrastructre", "fantastic youth academy", "out of the box thinking". It all comes down to that: Money, money and again money.
It`s like a billionair claiming to have an eye for innovation because a start-up he bought has grown 10 times its size when in fact he had bought 100 start-ups with 99 going to shit and one making it.

All this "progressive" creation of a modern football club has been built upon an infinte amount of cashflow, no matter what spin you put on it. And despite all this progressive thinking they`re still burning through immense amounts of transfer net spent.
City's "innovation" in 3 steps:
  1. Win the lottery
  2. Sign the world's best manager
  3. Sign all the best players
Genius innovation.

I think I may be slowly giving up on football. Clubs like City and PSG have just sucked everything out of it.

They sucked nothing, money was always king in this sport, that's why 99% of the historical clubs come from the greatest cities in Europe, you don't see Burnley winning a treble or Stevenage with a UCL threepeat.

Who cares if the money injected in those clubs comes from foreign countries instead of their borough? It's not like top clubs haven't been signing players from all the world around and looking for global exposure while losing their root values, at the end of the day we, the fans from historical big clubs, are just pissed because some guys came with new ideas and broke the statu quo, but the concept of elite teams being "clubs of the people" was lost 30 years ago.

And from a Barcelona fan point of view, it really doesn't matter if he goes to United with all his past glory or City with the chequebook and his pals Guardiola and Agüero.

I'm not pissed, I just maybe value the cultural aspects of the game a bit too much and a bit disillusioned with where the game is going in that aspect. We all feel differently about various things, nobody is going to tell me I'm wrong for feeling that way.

This is boring. You're displaying cognitive dissonance at it's finest, you want to hate City and it clouds your judgment. Same with RB. Credit where credit is due. You can criticize the way they raised the money needed to build what they built but belittling the result just makes you come across as petty. City is probably the best example in world football of a club having a long term vision and pursuing it consequently, despite setbacks along the road. It was there for everyone to see ever since they appointed Begiristain who himself went to City because he would get the funding and freedom to build the club he envisioned.

I get there's this rivalry stuff and general rejection of oil money but you don't look any further. Don't really get this. I deeply despise Bayern, for instance, but they've done a great job in the last 10-15 years and I have no problem admitting that. Separate sympathy from assessment.

If pep needs messi to win the league again and to win the cl after all these years, I'm not sure that makes him the best manager

Exactly. There's always been clubs with more privileges than others. The idea that elite clubs worked so hard for their status and the "new riches" didn't is silly.

Funnily enough the reason I'm not bothered by City is because they are far from innovative, their model is as old as the game of football. I'm as apathetic towards them as I have always been toward Inter.

He's of course an outstanding manager, maybe the best. But his managerial reign since Barcelona has taken the glow off. That being said, I wish he'd have joined us over City...

Don't think he's the best by any means.

I’m gutted Lionel Messi is going to fecking Manchester City. Wtf. Surely can’t happen

The president will leave and a new chairman will come in and promise him all sorts of hopes and dreams, and he will stay.

What is Messi’s actual specific issue with Barcelona board and CEO?

Cope reporting that he wants to leave because:
  • He doesn't trust the board
  • He doesn't believe they're competent enough to reverse the situation at the club.
  • They're unable to assemble a competitive team.
  • He hates how they treated some of his teammates and managers, among them Suárez and Valverde
All of that is true btw, the way the club has been ran has been a shambles from the board hiring tabloid and social media firms to slander their own players online and push false narratives about Messi being a pseudo dictator calling all the shots, which has always been a lie, to the massive sums of money they've burned on flops

There's been reports of his unhappiness at the club regularly the last few seasons, finally feels like he's fed up especially after the spectacular Bayern debacle which was their 3rd embarassing European exit in a row

Messi to City would be a nightmare. They could win it all with him in that side. The good thing is that PSG and Bayern look strong in europe to stop them and Liverpool from winning the CL.

Will things really be worse off than currently if he joined them?

I don’t see the big deal. Yes, he’s currently still a top2 player in the world but he’s at the tail end of his career. Maybe two more years before the drop off? And I don’t see us catching City this season. Maybe him going there and fecking up their wage structure (not that they have to worry about money) will do more damage long term. Hopefully falls out with De Bruyne and Sterling and them guys

Thats a bit rich given you're club and its fans are part of the ones ganging up on RB and even refuse to attend matches there.

It’s just the fact Manchester fecking city will have the games greatest ever player. Sickening

If we're not going to be in the mixer - which only the most deluded fan would say we will be right now - then Messi stopping Liverpool wouldn't be a disaster.

As long as someone still stops City :)

Yes, poaching almost all of barca's backroom staff was such a visionary move. Fortune 500 take note.

Seems to be politics from Bartomeu. He knows Messi has leaned so far out of the window that he won't go back. Now he's offered his resignation and passed the buck to Messi who still won't stay and he can be all like "what more should I do? I offered him what he wanted but he left anyway."

There's more to it as you can see. Also, if it was so easy and obvious, why didn't you do it? It's not like you had no money at your disposal after Ferguson.

That’s a whole load of angst. Been building up a long time, and once such an emotional bond is broken, very unlikely it can be fixed. CEO resigning won’t be enough.
Looks like it’s done and he’ll be at City for start of season.

Will be exciting to see Messi in PL, finally. But my hate against him and the oil money will reach to new levels if they pull this one through. City of all the clubs, its disgusting really. Can’t think of a worse club choice.

First of all, that's not my club and second, even if it was, I'm not them, am I? I don't care what those people think, I can have my independent opinion on the matter. For what it's worth, I think a good proportion of our own fans are thick hypocritical idiots (as in every club by the way).

Think about how teams would line up against a City with Messi, De Bruyne, Sterling and Aguero. Testudo on the goalline may be a decent tactic.

imagine we spend all the window nitpicking about buying Sancho, and City sign Messi in a week

Not only that, the Messi rumours thread in Blue Moon is already >800 pages. It'll probably overtake the Sancho thread any minute!

Trying to imagine the best way of doing this.

Bring in 8 x 6 foot 5 players and position them on the goal line, while your keeper, and two supremely fit players chase around the pen area?

Aren't you owned by a US billionaire family? Where's the "cultural aspect" in that?

Not necessarily aimed at you, but Utd fans saying that they're done with football because the likes of PSG and City are just becoming apathic because you're not the team you used to be on the field between 1992-2013 for over two decades. If you were still winning the PL and CL on a regular basis I'd doubt any of you would hold the same view, or at least becoming apathic about football.
