Verona had a very Leicester like league back. Sampdoria though had an excellent squad. They had Pagliuca in goal whose probably a better keeper then all our 3 goalkeepers combined, Vierchowood had more talent then all our CBs combined as well, Mannini, Lanna and Lombardo were Italian internationals, Katanec was a good player then of course there were Mancini and Vialli upfront. If I remember well, both Napoli and Milan were in turmoil back then with Sacchi leaving at the end of the season. If they were in the right mind then there was no chance in hell that Sampdoria could beat them. I don't remember Roma winning the 82-83 season. I was too young back then.
The Serie A was tough, very tough. Players like Bergkamp and Rush would come to the Serie A and make fools of themselves. They would come to the Serie A and literally be laughed at because they were shite. Even the mid-small sides could afford big talent like Baggio, Batistuta, Careca, Dunga, Zico, Platt, Gazza etc. At one point things got so silly that a Hagi moved from Real Madrid to frigging Brescia. Its like saying prime Modric moved from Real to Brighton. That of course came with a price as such situation wasn't financially feasable. But there is no denying that the Serie A of the time was probably the most difficult league the world had ever seen. Even the likes of Van Basten, Vialli and co would struggle scoring more then 18-20 goals in it
