"We can do things in the transfer market that other clubs can only dream of. Watch this space." - Ed Woodward,

Well I'm waiting for these words to be delivered by taking both Messi and Sancho

I know we will end up with neither

He has already delivered on that. We have done several things in the transfer market that others will only dream of.
Like preparing bids for Bale, Thiago, and Sancho.

We up there with the preparations, no one in the world can prepare the way we do. We also can do the best 48 hours like no other

When did Woodward say this by the way?

----------------------Ederson
Walker--Koulibaly--Laporte--Mendy
------------------Fernandinho
--------de Bruyne------Gundogan
Messi----------Aguero---------Sterling

Will probably buy a new left back too. Foden, Bernardo Silva, Mahrez and Jesus on the bench. Outrageous.

We might be able to sell Smalling and sign Brooks if Bournemouth will take installments so who are the real winners this window? Utterly depressing

How did our spend for LVG compared with City at the time?

actually forget that/. We just saw LVGs list and he was given Scniederlin and a half crocked Falcao.

Messi is great and all but I don’t see how he makes City much better. They’ve no issue scoring goals. They can’t defend for shit. Messi would only make that worse given how little he actually runs.

It’s not like we paid a world record £80m for Harry Maguire last year or anything after weeks and weeks of people moaning that we wouldn’t be signing him. In the end we almost always pay up and get the player. We’ll get Sancho late on in the window, stop moaning ffs.

Worked out great

Just hope we haven't dropped too many points in the first couple of league games by then

Hull City have always had their head in the clouds when it comes to transfers..

Whilst It is inevitable, Messi moving to city will taint his legacy against ronaldo. Ronaldo has played and done it for historically big clubs in united, madrid and juve.

Man city's club status is not in that same bracket as such clubs and will be looked back upon as if he had taken quite a step down from going from a club of Barca's status to such a small club in man city.

Yeah has to be on the stupidest things I have ever heard someone come out with
He is essentially a banker they have no feeling for money. It's not like they are using their money on anything else than hookers and coke.

Wait, some fans here actually want him to sign for City? :wenger:

Wow. Just wow. I’ve seen it mentioned a lot how far we’ve fallen as a fan base, and have fundamentally disagreed every time. But reading that some of you would actually prefer it if he went to City rather than PSG or the other petroclubs “just to see him in the PL” is outrageous. I can’t even believe it, and hope it’s either a WUM or a diagnose involved.

If he goes to City, it’s the biggest, most spectacular transfer the world has ever seen. And it changes the entire league in regards to politics, power, fans, money. Everything, really. City would suddenly have a legitimate claim to being one of the biggest clubs in the world, and it would send their revenue through the roof.
It can’t be understated how good it will be for them, and how bad it will be for us, if he goes to City.

I will be absolutely devastated if it happens. I realize it’s probably the only realistic scenario right now, but that doesn’t change anything. It’ll be a fecking tragedy.

And to you lot who say you would actually prefer it if he signed for City if we can’t get him, feck off. Feck right off.
I respect what you're saying because it obviously is going to benefit our rivals which no doubt isn't good for United.

However i would say that I am a football fan first then a united fan. I grew up dreaming of being a footballer and adored many players from rival teams such as Henry, Ronaldo, Del Piero and Messi etc...

Seeing Messi in the Premier league (so close to home) is something that will fascinate me because I think he is a country mile above anyone else and will be a once in a lifetime spectical.

Most of my mates are city fans and a good proportion of them are unbearable but they have always been, even before the oil money. Do they deserve to watch Messi and KDB week in week out? No. But if you appreciate what he does, it doesn't matter who he plays for, it is spellbinding.

This isnt about rivalry for me, its about the game of football which is and always will be bigger than anything.

Football is cyclical. Teams will be good then bad then maybe good again. I can sleep knowing this.
Players like Messi haven't even existed so far. I dont even think we'll see someone surpass him before mankind itself implodes.

Thats why I don't mind Messi playing for city for 2 or 3 years.
Him going to Liverpool though, I don't know if I could justify that

Remember when Rooney requested to leave (allegedly for similar reasons as he felt we weren't able to 'compete') and ended up signing a new deal with us? Many fans never forgave him for it and it kinda tarnished his legacy with us a little...

I know Rooney to Utd is not Messi to Barcelona, but it's hard to imagine Messi staying now. If he signs a new deal would he be thought of as holding the club ransom? I think if he leaves his legacy is more in tact and the blame is placed more towards the leadership / management. He would have most fans on his side.

Really interesting

Their club status will now be elevated for sure if he moves and plays for them.

they’ll be treated like Chelsea have been treated recently in a couple of years.

That’s the least imposing mob I’ve ever seen, I wouldn’t even get out of my chair for that if I were Bertomeu.

Looks like the home time bell has gone off at the local high school.

He won't even ask Smithers to release the dogs.

Given how cheatcode City already is, if anything I feel like this will just serve to remind the general populace who had become somewhat inured against the scale of their spend just how ridiculous it is.

On the pitch, he'll be good obviously, but I agree with the poster above who was pointing out that attacking midfield really isn't an issue for City. He's clearly going to get better numbers than Mahrez but so what? I don't think it changes City that much at all, outside of the CL where his big game experience would tell.

Also feeling very conflicted because it really would be exciting to see Messi in the premier league. Even if it's at City.

Let’s be honest. If city can fund this deal at a similar rate to his Barca contract without offloading some players then we know financial fair play rules are being broken.

Its quite annoying, the thought of this.

Really hits home how far we've fallen tbh.

Difficult to imagine de Bruyne and Messi play together. I am not sure their style would click. Actually City would need to change the system unless Messi play in the Mahrez rw role.
